it's a chilly start on columbus day, we have clear skies and the promise of pleasant of sunshine. high pressure in control and winds are light. temperatures are cool, you probably feel this as you step outside. a little bit chilly than last week. 52 in philadelphia. allentown, 42. 48 in trenton. almost 50 in wilmington and slipping into the 40s at the airport in atlantic city and millville and dover, as well. winds are on the light side. at the but not a lot of breeze, but mainly clear and chilly. 50 degrees by 6:00 a.m. 51 by 8:00 a.m. sweatshirts not a bad idea, a couple of layers early. as we go into the afternoon we can she shed it layers. 51 by 8:00 a.m. 69 by noon, 3:00 p.m., 75. nice and warm degrees probably

head out the door. no problems getting to work today. >> not everybody will without problems a computer glitch causing haitian if you're flying southwest today. they are going into day two with the problems, there's something you can do to up the easy skies. let's go over to trish hartman with the latest. >> reporter: two hours early is the recommendation from southwest airlines for passengers flying southwest. so far with passengers we have spoken with, things are moving smoothly, lines are short, things are moving smoothly, we're checking the boards and flights are listed on time. right now earlier this morning, the line was much longer. you can take a look at the line we found around 5:00 after the late flights and handwriting boarding passes. employees saying the computers are coming back up. southwest representatives say
the technology glitch started around 10:00 a.m. sunday causing 450 delayed flights yesterday. southwest officials have not said what caused the problems, but there's no indication it's the result of a hacker. folks we talked to this morning sailed the lines are moving quickly. >> we've come through philadelphia before and have barely made the plane, so we knew that we should plan ahead. >> i woke up today and saw the disaster and i knew it was going to be wiry, but it worked out. >> reporter: how long did you wait? >> in the line? >> reporter: 15 minutes or so. >> reporter: self check in kiosks are working, but southwest recommends you prints your boarding pass at home before you take your flight. trish hartman channel 6 "action news." >> a freak accident clainld the life of he -- claimed the life
of a former south jersey firefighter. he was killed mowing his lawn. police say 79-year-old roger lippincot was mowing his lawn the mother caught fire and the smoke and flames left him dead. his former fire company in springfield township posted a tribute to him on on their website. >> lehigh valley republican pat brown will be arraigned on charges connected to motorcycle crash in allentown. he crashed his motor cycle on i-78 back in may, this is his third dui since 1995. >> the mayoral debate is the final showdown between jim kenny and marie bailey.
the presidential candidates will probably spend their day with a briefing book facing off in their first debate. they will fails the questions in -- they will face the questions in las vegas, a 6th podium is at the ready for joe biden should he decide to jump into the race. the deadline on the ballot comes up next week. the big question is whether the veep has the heart to run in the aftermath of his son beau who died from brain cancer. >> he wants to be president, i think the personal is weighing on him quite a bit, but that will be the deciding factor. >> on the republican side donald trump leads the contenders in the latest poll. >> major league baseball has suspended chase utley for two

the truck has extensive damage. the coast guard rescued a sailor who survived five days stranded at sea. this is video off the coast of the hawaiian islands yesterday. it took him several days to drift close enough to land to get a signal to send out a distress call. he was not physically hurt. >> united airlines is investigating a midair scare that forced a plane to turn around. it was four hours into flight from san francisco near the alaskan coast with when it had to retrace it's route to california. >> there was a fuel problem, the airplane was using more fuel than usual and they were not sure we would make it to hong kong, so they decided to go back. >> some passengers complained all they received for the delay was a 20-dollar voucher for food. united said it made every effort
