showers away from us. some breaks in the clouds through philadelphia and out to the west but another system coming in from the west and we'll eventually pick up some of those sprinkles and showers later on this morning and perhaps into the early afternoon. 60 degrees is the current temperature. so it's cool but not as cool as it was yesterday. 50 degrees in allentown. 49 in reading. that's one of the few spots in the 40's at this hour. 59 in millville. 65 in sea isle city and the winds like the last couple of mornings not that strong, only running 3 miles per hour in philadelphia. as we head out the door to catch that school bus, looks like it will be cool but not all that breezy. temperatures close to 60 between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock, a sweatshirt or a jacket a good idea for the kids. as we head through the day, once again it's going to be on the mild side this afternoon. 59 degrees by 8 o'clockly by noon, 68. and by 3 o'clock, 72 degrees with a high today of 73 and that will slot in probably around 3:30 or 4:00. we have a cooldown coming in the accuweather 7-day. in fact a couple of waves of even kehler air between now
and the weekend. karen details coming up. >> onthe coolest air coincides with my camping trip which is great. looking live on the vine street expressway looking good right now. we've got no problems out there. the vine had closed last night at 11:00 a.m., it just reopened at 5:00 a.m. and we're looking now you can see eastbound and westbound reopened but watch 'cause it's going to close again tonight for construction starting at 11:00 and they close obviously the ramp, too. this is the schuylkill expressway. some of the ramps start closing as early as fine 9 o'clock. we have five nights of construction with the vine closing completely. one more tonight. on the big picture overall speeds in pretty good shape. we had lighter volume in spots yesterday with the holiday so we'll see that picked up a little bit today. we have an early morning accident montgomery county, meetinghouse road near devon closer to delene road. this is in abington montgomery county, police responding to that one. we're going to go into new jersey right now, a look at 42.
that's your northbound traffic looking okay at this point. southbound we had an early morning jam with some construction that was causing some intermittent stoppages but it's moving a little better. southbound on 42 as well, matt and tam. >> thank you, karen. a home invasion is under investigation in philadelphia. this happened in fern rock on the 5900 block of north 12th street. detectives are now looking for two men who ambushed a man who was walking into his home holding his takeout dinner. the duo forced themselves into the victim's apartment. police say the man was shot pistol whipped and then possibly beaten way metal pipe. a full report on the investigation is coming up in our next half hour. >> and we have developing news we are monitoring out of the satellite center and it is sad news coming out of kansas city. two firefighters were killed and two were injured when a building, a burning building collapsed last night. now, crews arrived on the scene around 7:30 p.m. where they found an apartment building heavily damaged and the firefighters evacuated people from inside. well, a short time later, when firefighters were clearing the
area with a partially collapsed roof, the structure collapsed further injuring four firefighters. now, again, two of them died. none of them have been identified yet and we don't know the condition of the two firefighters who were hurt. we understand that firefighters were at the hospital consoling the families of those firefighters who were killed. and we were also told that hours after those firefighters were injured, that people could still see flames shooting from the rubble of that building. an investigation is under way right now to find out exactly what caused the blaze. we're live in the satellite center, erin o'hearn channel6 "action news." >> thank you erin. delaware state police released surveillance photos an attempted church burglary. two men here spotted outside saint marks united methodist church on limestone road in wilmington. the photos are taken -- or were taken on september 20th. the duo damaged the door while trying to get inside. anyone who recognizes the men or maybe they're juveniles, we
don't know, should call delaware crime stoppers or state police. >> happening today, the defense lays out its case in the deadly center city building collapse trial. the prosecution rested its case last week. contractor griffin campbell is charged with six counts of murder related to the 2013 tragedy at 22nd and market. a brick wall fell on top of the salvation army store. excavator operator sean benschop testified that he told campbell that the plan to take down the wall was dangerous. benschop is serving 1020 years in prison for his role in that collapse. and the search continues for three men wanted for the murder of a transgender prostitute. philadelphia police say pedro redding has confessed to his role in the crime but they say redding was not the trigger man. keisha jenkins was killed last week at 13th and wingohocking. detectives say the motive was robbery and jenkins was shot after she fought back strongly against the men. >> philadelphia's two main mayoral candidates squared off in a debate last night.
democrat jim kenney and republican melissa murray bailey fielded questions in center city. plans for public schools were among the topics discussed. >> universal prek is an absolute and we are working o on a plan right now to make sure that we have enough input from city government in resources in from philanthropy and from corporate help to make sure we get this program off the ground immediately. >> what we need to do is stop investing in things, pressing pause on programs that are not our number one priority. >> a group from the philadelphia federation of teachers gathered outside to express their frustrations with the city's public schools. jim foster, osborne hart and boris kindij are also on the ballot but were not part of last night's debate. two more debates are planned before election day which is three weeks from today. >> let's talk about today and the changes that we'll see by the end of the week. >> no kidding. cooler air coming but, hey, it's october in philadelphia, right. >> yeah. >> storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows you we're dry, we've had showers that have swept past the shore moving up into new england,
that's with a coastal feature that's pushing out of here. as we take a look outside we're actually going see some sunshine this morning, once the sun gets up over the horizon and we'll probably stay dry through the morning commute and that's the way things look now at the airport with all those aircraft buzzing around and getting into place. temperature 60 degrees currently in philadelphia, not quite as cool as it was this time yesterday. the winds out of the south-southeast at just 3 miles per hour, so very light winds this morning again. and future tracker6 showing that you we will cloud up as we go later into the morning and eventually there will be some sprinkles and showers around. not everybody is going to see these and those that do you're not going have to deal with it very long. later into the afternoon and evening and the model still wants to put some sprinkles and showers here or there. looks like it's all real light stuff, real quick moving. by 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock it's mostly off the coast. that's the way things are looking. it's going to be warm again today. 59 degrees by 8 o'clock, by 11 o'clock, 66 degrees and then 71 by 2 o'clock and once again today, it looks like we'll get a high somewhere in the 70's. we'll go 73 in philadelphia.
and that will be late this afternoon around 3:30 or 4:00. high temperatures across the region only 69 in allentown, so a little bit cooler up north. 71 is your high in trenton and in reading. 73 in philadelphia and millville and basically the low 70's down along the shore. again, a spotty shower but dry most of the day with a mix of clouds and at times some sun. and then tomorrow that frontal boundary giving us the slight instability today is going to be off the coast. winds will start to roll in from the west-northwest and high pressure in place drying us out. we'll have a mix of sun and clouds but a high of just 67 tomorrow and that's just the beginning. temperatures are going to continue to dip as we head toward the weekend. 73 today. clouds and sun, a slight chance of a spotty shower. tomorrow breezy and a bit cooler, a high of 67 degrees and then down to 65 for a high on thursday. lots of sunshine. very pretty in through here. and then friday more clouds, 64 degrees, another spotty shower or two possible. again, not a washout. friday's probably going to act a lot like today will act.
then behind that system, we get even cooler and this is really the next shot of cooler air before we start to rebound. nice but chilly on saturday. we've got a high of just 59 degrees. if you're headed to temple football you'll want a couple of layers beneath that temple gear that you're planning on wearing and then 56 degrees, sunshine but very cool on sunday. and then we're back up to 57 on monday. notice how the low sunday night is 39 degrees. >> oh, david. >> that's philadelphia. some suburbs will be lower than that and i do think we'll probably start to see some frost popping up here or there over the weekend. >> guess it's time to get out the coat by the weekend. >> yeah. >> thank you david. republican lawmakers in pa are eyeing another gambling expansion to help solve the state's budget crisis. supports say an expansion could mean hundreds of millions of dollars in license fees, also some new tax collections. a spokesman actually -- we're looking at baby kittens. let's talk about them. they're in need of new homes after they were rescued from a burning building in delaware. wilmington firefighters discovered the newborns as they knocked out a fire at a vacant property on the 600 block of west eighth street.

>> ♪ >> welcome back. you're taking a live look here down the shore into atlantic city. we always love seeing the bright lights there at the top of the casinos and sometimes we even get to see ferris wheel beltway i guess those days are over because we are talking about colder temperatures coming in very shortly. it is 5:42, 61 degrees. it will be in the 70's this afternoon. enjoy it because by the time we get to the weekend the overnight lows will be in the
30's. >> let's turn to karen rogers. we're getting a more normal level of traffic out there today, right. >> yeah, well, yesterday was a holiday for a lot of people, not everybody. we found some jams on the roads but in other areas it looked a little better. right now we expect more people to be back to work. we're at 422 right now at trooper. the construction just wrapped up right here. i saw the crews leave in the commercial break so now 422 looking okay and that eastbound traffic showing i'd say a touch of volume and that's about it. certainly no delay just yet. we do have some construction going on on the pennsylvania turnpike at fort washington. the ramps in both directions are restricted. this caused big delays yesterday in an area where we didn't see a lot of delays we certainly saw delays on the pennsylvania turnpike near fort washington with those ramps being restricted so watch for that. that's out there once again today and will be causing some problems out there as well as the northeast extension southbound between lehigh valley and quakertown in both directions there we've got the right lane blocked so you're going to see that construction out there today as well. let's check the temperatures for you. it's currently 60 degrees in philadelphia.
60. that's not too bad, right? 50 degrees in allentown. you're just in the 40's in reading and mount pocono, though. 54 in wilmington, 59 degrees in millville and 65 right now in sea isle city so you know today is going to be a milder day. we're certainly off to a milder start and in fact temperatures down the shore 18 degrees warmer than they were at this point yesterday. we're about 8 degrees warmer in philadelphia and allentown. enough that you notice it when you step outside not quite as chilly but the afternoon 73 for your high, loving these temperature. we have a spotty shower around but other than that you're good to go today. matt and tam. >> sounds good. thank you karen. the search is on for a trio of home invaders who shot a man and threatened his wife at gun point. police believe they have recovered a key piece of evidence from an entirely different scene. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside philadelphia police headquarters with the full story. katherine. >> reporter: matt, the victim in this home invasion is in extremely critical condition according to police. police say it's unknown if
he's going to survive his injuries. his wife was threatened in this home invasion much his three young children were upstairs and police were able to speak to his wife to learn more about what happened and investigators were on that scene in southwest philadelphia last night. they recovered a she will casinshell casing.they recoverem the front porch that police believe the suspects dropped while they were fleeing. just after 11 o'clock last night, police were called out to the 1100 block of south ruby street and when police got there they found a 50-year-old man lying on his living room floor. he was bleeding heavily. he had been shot in the head. police rushed him to presbyterian hospital and as i mentioned, investigators say the victim had been in his house with his wife and his three children ages five, two and 10 months. they were upstairs. that's when three men came in through an unlocked front door. >> one of the perpetrators who was wearing a mask took the wife back into the kitchen,
put a gun to her head and asked her where is the money? give me the money and threatened to shoot her. she stated she had no money and then she heard a gun shot coming from the living room. >> reporter: and around the same time that investigators were responding to that home, there was a car accident at 51st and locust. when police arrived there they found an overturned chevy in the middle of the intersection. it had hit a parked car and flipped over. a bloody handgun was found inside of that vehicle and everyone inside the car had fled the scene but police believe there could be a connection between that car accident and the home invasion but this all remains under investigation. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> okay, thank you katherine. and in other news now, there's been another explosion in tan jen, the sister city of philadelphia china. it comes two months after a deadly blast in saturday city.
this is amateur video of flames shooting from a warehouse. so far no casualties are reported. a company in a nearby province had been rent this place and was doing so illegally. in august another blast killed 165 people. >> this is new. passengers booed an american airlines flight crew over the treatment of a female passenger who was removed from a flight to oregon. >> (booing). a witness says a flight attendant told the woman to move out of the aisle. the woman felt the attendant was rude and went to another crew member. then the original flight attendant came back leaving the woman in tears. >> are you serious? >> oh, my god. i didn't even know he was talking to me. i can't do it. this can't be legal. >> some passengers are filing complaints over the attendant's conduct.

61 degrees by 9 o'clock. about midday there's a chance of us seeing a brief shower. if that bothers you maybe you stay home during that part of the day. 68 degrees. end then 72 by 3 o'clock probably dry and 71 by 6 o'clock with just a couple of late day or early evening sprinkles around. matt and tam. >> thank you david. a ski resort in the poconos dusting off its ski lift a little early. for five dollars visitors to camelback mountain can enjoy a bird's eye view of the fall foliage in tannersville. the 16 minute round trip ride will be offered every weekend through early november. >> the president of the olive garden restaurant chain has apologized to a missouri police officer. the officer says an employee kicked him out of a location because he was wearing a gun. it happened on sunday in independence. officers michael holsworth posted the story on facebook and it went viral. a spokesperson says members of law enforcement are always welcomed in the restaurant. any repercussion to the employee will be handled internally after the investigation.
