7:00 a.m. saturday october 17. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news," we're following developing news, several people are injured when a home goes up in flames in south jersey. fire claimed the life in a home in delaware county. plus, bill chill some areas -- plus big chill, some areas could see frost on the ground this weekend. let's go outside to meteorologist chris sowers. it's not really that cold. >> reporter: that's the saving grace, but it's chilly compared to seasonable averages. fleetwood, tanersville, 35. the poconos you're three degrees above freezing.

it's milder the closer you get to the city. 37 in saint david and kennett scare and oxford and chester 43. interior sections of south jersey feeling the chill. hammonton, 40 degrees on the dot. agenda beach in glassboro, chowing 47. hockessin 42. dover checking in at 41. satellite and radar you'll see crystal clear skies throughout the morning hours. during the afternoon we'll increase the clouds a little bit, that will keep the temperatures down, shooting for a high of 58 degrees, which is 8 degrees below average. the normal is 66. lunchtime, 54. 3:00 p.m., 57 degrees and somewhere in between 3 and 6:00 p.m. we'll top out at 58 degrees for a half-hour. the numbers start to tank off again. overnight tonight we have a chilly one coming this way. the next cold shot is coming

straight from the pole. this is typical of something you see in january or february. had this been january temperatures would be in the low to mid 20s in the delaware valley. anyway you slice it it's going to be a cold weekend we'll have a freeze overnight saturday night into sunday morning. happening overnight a single family home in pleasantville went up in flames. firefighters were called to the west street and they found a well developed fire in a home. they worked for an hour to bring it under control. there are reports of injuries and "action news" is working to determine the severity. new this morning, police in delaware county are trying to figure out what caused an overnight fire that killed a man. flames broke out at a twin home on the 200 block of collingdale

avenue around 11:30. first responders arrived to find a woman screaming on the front porch. police officers and firefighters came from surrounding times to help. several officers try to get inside, but were forced back by intense flames. firefighters worked to put out the flames. >> second floor, middle bedroom, a male body was found in the bedroom deceased. >> reporter: collingdale police are talking to the woman, a companion of the victim as they try to figure out what caused the deadly fire. pennsylvania state police and state arson investigators are investigating. a woman's body was pulled from the delaware river last night. someone spotted her floating in the area between market and chestnut at 7:00 p.m. philadelphia marine unit retrieved her body. no word if foul play is suspected.

there are details about a shooting at a montgomery county cab company, ozzie clark shot his boss. he demanded the other employees to cut him a check. he was arrested 90 minute minutes later and keegan is expected to recover. philadelphia police say brown shot shields in the head following an argument on the 1200 block of north 10th street. shields died the next day, brown is facing murder and criminal conspiracy charges. a jury will continue to deliberate the fate of contractor griffin campbell who faces life in imprison for the demolition disaster at 22nd and market. 6 people died and 13 injured.

the architect who hired him knew he wasn't qualified to do the job. prosecutors say he tried to save money by cutting corners and it cost lives. trial opening statement yesterday for chaka fattah accused of using business loans for personal use. his father an 11-term congress is facing federal indictment for unrelated charges. the race for the white house republican presidential candidate threatened to boycott an upcoming debate because it was too long. is a decision from vice president joe biden coming soon? abc's karen travers has it all. >> reporter: drama over a debate. two leading republicans revolting. donald trump and ben carson

33 in trenton. millville, 32. philadelphia, 39. wilmington, 35. most of the area is getting close to freezing, the national weather service has issued a freeze warning overnight tonight into tomorrow morning for the entire area. the lone exception being the i-95 corridor. we are expecting the testers to be milder in this part of the viewing area. everybody else getting close to freezing. protect those sensitive generally -- protect sensitive vegetation so they don't feel the effect of the cold air. 58 degrees today. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, chilly sunshine sunday, high of 53. sunday night into monday we're expecting what's called a hard freeze with overnight temperatures dropping into the 20s north and west, and 20s for the pine barrens and interior sections of south jersey that will likely put an end to the growing season. wednesday and thursday we have temperatures in the 70s.

everyone, 7:23 saturday morning, we have a freeze likely on the way not tomorrow morning, but more so sunday night into monday morning. tomorrow morning will be down right cold, but the killing freeze is in 48 hours. it's everybody shaded in the lavender color. the exception being i-95 corridor from trenton to new york city and baltimore and washington, d.c. those areas are included because you have higher populations and most of the asphalt and sidewalks and sky scrapers that keeps cities more insulated than the rural areas. on a confident scale i feel certainly you'll see the hard freeze with temperatures in the 20s. you want to take steps to protect vegetables and h. he r -- herbs.

accident that sent a police officer to the hospital last night. chopper 6 was on scene tuckahoe road in franklin township. the officer who was a 14 year veteran of the force was hit by an suv. he is in serious condition with broken bones and concussion. the driver of the suv ran a stop sign and hit him. she had three children in the car and allegedly driving drunk at the time. she has been arrested and charge with dui and other charges. philadelphia police believe they know who they are looking for in a violent home invasion. it happened blocks from a temple university hospital where there's been a surge of violence. jeff chirico has the details. >> we'll append these individuals because we know their names. >> reporter: philadelphia police say they know who they are looking in this violent home

invasion blocks from temple university campus. four men armed with guns forced their way in and pistol whipped the 26-year-old victim. >> they robbed him. >> reporter: they fled on foot their coming and goings likely recorded on surveillance cameras inside and outside the apartment building. the victim injured with a cut to the eye was able to see well enough to give detective's critical information. >> the victim said he recognized and knows who of them. so we actually have names. >> reporter: the victim's roommate was home at the time of the invasion, but in the shower and unaware that anything had happened. the victim was taken to temple university hospital to be treated for the cut to the eye. at central detectives, jeff chirico channel 6 "action news." >> philadelphia police are hoping surveillance video will help identify two suspects wanted for robbing two temple students this week.

police say the suspects pulled a gun on a man at 10th and is you say with a had an -- susquehanna and robbed him and stole his 2005 cadillac. three hours later another student was robbed at 15th street. if you know the two men contact police. a lehigh valley woman who admitted to a murder or higher plot learned her fate after hiring to hit man to kill her daughter's ex-girlfriend. she was arrested after talking to an undercover detective who was posing as a hit man. moody's lord pennsylvanis bond rating citing the

skies. you can see across the entire tri state. for the most part you're clear. you can see mixed rain and snow showers across the great lake states. the water vapor shot hose the huge arctic -- shows the huge arctic high settling in. ohio and tennessee valley the high plains and great lake states is pushing south and east it will sit over top of us monday and. it will be a struggle tomorrow just to reach 50 degrees in parts of the area. bismarck, north dakota 27. this is chilly for this time of the year. you have to keep in mind it's only the middle of october. it's not like we're in december or something like that. caribou maine, 27 degrees. let's flip it over, the model is

a little too chilly. we're going 57, 58 degrees, mid 50s north and west. i like what the model is doing overnights tonight. it shows the clear skies and calm winds and the numbers plummeting. reading, allentown the numbers fall off the cliff. 30 degrees. with the clouds increasing, again it's going to be a struggle to reach 50 degrees. we'll go 53 or 54 for the high in the city. cooler north and west. monday morning this by far will be the coldest air of the season so far. mid to upper 20s north and west, trenton 29. millville, 32. this will produce what's called a hard freeze that typically kills plants and puts an end to the growing season. if you have anything outdoors bring it indoors this weekend if you want to save it. it's not going to last with the temperatures that cold.
