>> first weather and traffic with dave murphy and karen rogers. good morning. >> chilly out here, matt and erin and karen. we are better than yesterday when we were in the 20's and 30's. take a look. satellite shows you a lack of cloud cover in the immediate region. some of that stuff up north might try and pop in at times today but high pressure is going to try and defend us from that and we're expecting mostly sunny skies for most of the day. 48 degrees right now in philadelphia. just 45 in allentown. reading at 44. same thing in wilmington. 43 in trenton and 52 in sea isle city. but these are all better than yesterday. this is the 24 hour change between what we're looking at right now and where we were this time yesterday and we're actually 12 degrees milder in philadelphia, 20 degrees milder in millville and 18 degrees better in allentown. so, yeah, cool enough for coats this morning but better than yesterday and getting a lot better later this afternoon. by noon we'll be up to 61 degrees. your storm tracker6 app by 3:00 there have about 68 degrees and we're looking at a high of 69 around 4 o'clock this afternoon. some urban centers like center city philadelphia might

actually touch 70 this afternoon. gets even milder tomorrow and the next day, karen. i'll have those details coming up in the accuweather 7-day forecast. what about roads? >> all right, i like that trend. so far looking pretty good here on i-95 if you're coming in from bucks county, northeast philadelphia. this is your ride. southbound traffic right here headed towards center city and looking pretty good at this hour. we've got a little building volume but no delay just yet. we do have a couple issues out there including this disabled vehicle. watch for it on old york road at rodman avenue in jenkintown. in quakertown an accident had 309 southbound shut down between toll gate road and rich hill road to stick to old bethlehem pike as your alternate for that one. an accident here on the turnpike eastbound shuts down the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound between lancaster and reading so look for this. lebanon and lancaster and reading between those areas, 266 and 286 you've got the turnpike eastbound shut down. if you're headed westbound you should be okay. and also new castle county here i-95 southbound a disabled tractor-trailer

blocks the right lane right at exit five for route 141, matt. >> thanks, karen. police are still searching for one of two people accused of a violent home invasion. they say they caught one man near the home after the crime still wearing his mask and gloves. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live on the scene in the city's kensington section with the full story. katherine. >> reporter: matt, that's right, that 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody and police are still searching for a second suspect. as for the three victims, they were all taken to the hospital for evaluation. police say one of them had been stabbed but was walking, talking and conscious and police still have the scene roped off here in kensington this morning as they continue to search for evidence. officers were called here to the 3100 block of f street around 2:30 this morning. police say two masked men armed with a knife and a hammer went inside a home here. three people were asleep inside. they ransacked the place. police say a 26-year-old woman was tied to a chair with rope

and electrical cord. police say she still had the rope around her neck when officers arrived. a 36-year-old man was tied to a bed, his wrists and ankles were bound with rope and electrical cord and police say they forced a third woman in her 40's to drive to kensington and allegheny and withdraw the $100 she had in her account. when they arrived back here, police say she got into a physical altercation with the two men outside the home and someone heard her screaming and called 911. when police got here they found two men struggling with the woman. when police went to apprehend the man who had a hammer in his hand he jumped into the victim's white honda and tried to flee but two officers jumped into the car with him and then took him into custody. police say both women were shaken up and the man appeared to have been stabbed. >> he was assaulted, punched to his face. he had some bruises to his face. he was stabbed several times to his upper chest. however, although he lost a lot of blood he was conscious, walking, talking.

we believe he's in stable condition. >> reporter: and at this point there's no word from police on why this home was targeted. detectives continue to search for evidence. they say there are some surveillance cameras in the area where the woman withdrew money and there's also some surveillance cameras on a business nearby here, so they're hoping there's some footage that could help in this investigation. we're live in kensington, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> thanks katherine. also breaking overnight two men were shot during a robbery in north philadelphia and police say they were hit by the same bullet. it started on the 3800 block of germantown avenue at 2 o'clock this morning. a man approached a stopped car with a gun and demanded money. the passenger attempted to grab the gun when he was shot in the hand and the same bullet struck the driver in the hip. the gunman fled the scene. >> new this morning a spokesperson for oscar pistorius has issued a statement on the athlete's early release from jail. pistorius will serve out the remaining four years of his sentence on house arrest here

at his uncle's residence in south africa. >> the family is happy he's home. that is the key point. >> pistorius was convicted last year of killing his girlfriend, reeva steenkamp in 2013. he said he mistook her for an intruder. >> also new, someone deface add famous mural of business cosby in washington, d.c. the mural featuring the philadelphia native was covered up with a picture of north korean leader kim jong un. dozens of women have come forward claiming cosby sexually assaulted them. the comedian who has never been charged with a crime was a long time supporter of ben's chili bowl where the mural is located. it has since been fixed. >> apple music locks in millions of trial members but loses some as well. maribel aber is live at the nasdaq in times square. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: hey, good

morning to you erin. apple music has more than six and a half million paid users. that's the word from tim cook speaking at a wall street journal event. while millions of users left after their free trial ended millions more are still sampling the service. cook said 85 million people are currently involved in a free trial giving apple music a total of 15 million users over all. stocks finished with little change as investors weighed a new report showing a slow down in china's economy. right now futures pointing to a lower open. report out on housing starts due out later today. healthy gain for oprah winfrey for weight watchers. winfrey bought a 10 percent stake in the company and once word of the investment was out the stock soared more than doubling in price. that left oprah with a profit of $70 million on her invest. wow. matt and erin, guess there still is an oprah effect. when she talks people listen. >> she has a little extra spending money. >> that's right. >> she has quite an empire. >> she does, yes.

>> thank you maribel. >> storm tracker6 live double scan shows us that we are off to a dry start this morning and as we take a look outside, we are expecting plenty of sunshine up over the horizon in a little bit. right now dry at the airport. tranquil enough questionee conditions. a little bit of a breeze every now and then building this morning and that will probably continue through the day. 48 degrees in philadelphia currently, 44 wilmington, 43 trenton, 45 in al town you look at these numbers and it's obvious you need an extra layer or two this morning but it's nothing like it was yesterday when we were advising winter coats. satellite and radar showing us there's a little bit of cloud cover trying to dip down towards the pennsylvania turnpike in central pennsylvania. overall high pressure to our south is probably going to block out most of these clouds but at times some of that might make its way down into the region. generally speaking we're going for mostly sunny skies with occasional clouds up in allentown and a high of 67 after spending yesterday in the 50's. and at the shore pretty much the same story. no more of those 50's. we'll get up to 66 for a high.

cool today but better than yesterday. and in philadelphia a high of 69 degrees. some urban centers like center city might actually hit 70 this afternoon. and that high will be late in the day probably around 4 o'clock. winds out of the southwest at eight to 16 miles per hour. again it's that southwesterly flow that tends to get us mild and we're going to have that for the next several days. cool this morning. by 8 o'clock, 46. 11 o'clock 53 degrees. but spending the laughter noon for the majority of it anyway in the up are 60's with that 69-degree high as i mentioned around 4 o'clock. we've had three straight days of below average temperatures. highs in the 50's but the jet stream is now moving all the way up to the north of us with high pressure to the south and that southerly flow is going to get us milder not only today when we get up into the 60's but we'll be in the 70's tomorrow and on thursday before the next frontal boundary pops through and cools us down again. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, nice one today. a high of 69 degrees, fair amount of sunshine, a little breezy at times and then tomorrow warm and pleasant with a high up to 74 and 75 on

thursday. notice how the overnight lows are only in the 50's in philadelphia, too, so this is a nice mild pattern for three straight days. then a cold front comes in thursday night. perhaps a shower here or there. the big change will be the cooler temperatures behind that front. we'll only see a high of 62 on friday and 62 on saturday. bright conditions but cooler. and then ahead of another approaching front on sunday, 69 degrees, milder. there could be late day or night time shower around union fans heading down to ppl park for that final 5:00 p.m. match with the union and orlando on sunday afternoon and evening, want to keep an eye on radar and then we're back to the low 60's on monday. >> okay. >> thanks, david. 6:10 now. up next more stories you didn't see last night. it's all in the family when it comes to canada's next prime minister. >> and the eagles monday night matchup came down to which team made more mistakes. karen. >> our construction has cleared here in langhorne, bucks county so route one southbound at 213 moving a little bit better right now. no problems right there.

happy for a lot of people waking up after that eagles win last night. you're taking a live look at atlantic city. much warmer this morning than it was yesterday and wednesday and thursday are going to be beauts. >> who is not moving on the roads karen. >> this guy right here. a disabled truck we spotted. not seeing any police or penndot on the scene. i-95 southbound at the split for the vine and it's mostly off to the side partially block the right lane. be careful about that on i-95 southbound. you can see people are kind of slowing down just as they pass it. this guy hitting his brakes and kind of making sure they're not hitting the truck since it's out there right now partially block the right lane. look for that one on i-95 southbound. let's take a look right now at this on old york road at rodman avenue. we've got another disabled vehicle, this one in jenkintown causing a problem there. not shutting it down. they did it to shut down 309 southbound because of an accident in quakertown. blocked between toll great road and rich hill road. also turnpike eastbound is

closed so look for that closure. you want to stick to route 30 or 322 instead. it's closed between lebanon and reading so exits 266 and 286 you're dealing with those closures right now. let's check the commuter traffic report right now. if you're coming in from cinnaminson in new jersey and you're coming into philadelphia with the current traffic if you take the betsy ross bridge it's a 31 minute ride but look at the difference right now. only a 17 minute ride currently, looking pretty good if you go ahead and take 130 southbound through near pennsauken and then take the ben franklin bridge so a 17 minute ride coming in from cinnaminson. traffic there not too bad. temperatures looking a little better than yesterday, right. 43 degrees in quakertown, 46 right now in center city. remember yesterday morning we were scraping off our windshields. not the case today. we're in the 40's most places. 46 glassboro, 44 in dover, erin. >> thanks karen. a former high school teacher will become candidate's next prime minister. justin trudeau's liberal party won a resounding victory in yesterday's elections.

at philadelphia international airport right now. lots of clouds in a lot of spots but no rain. matt. >> thank you, david. villanova university is adding armed police officers on campus. officials say they came to the decision after a thorough two-year process that included community input. about 20 members of the public safety department will serve as police officers. they will have access to 911 dispatch and crime data bases and will be able to detain people who are under criminal suspicion. villanova students had mixed reactions. >> police department on like other college campuses so if anything i think it will help people feel safer if there's threats in the future. >> if you want to go into what kind of atmosphere it will create it's going to create a negative one because these people are going to have guns on campus. we've never dealt with that before. we don't need it. >> the police department will be up and running in about a year. training will begin immediately. >> a new study breaks down how to new mother's weight gain could affect her new baby. doctors already knew that women who gain a lot of weight during pregnancy are more

>> new on "action news" 11 people were you. >> a four-vehicle crash in kansas. a teen april are lost control of her vehicle slamming into another car and that caused a domino effect. now police say a spider had distracted the teen before the crash. no one was seriously hurt. >> new information is coming in about a doctor found dead in the doorway of a new york city apartment building. officials say kiersten cerveny's death has been ruled an accident. she died of an acute cocaine and alcohol intoxication. police had suspected the mother from long island died of an overdose. this picture may show the most infamous iceberg in history. historians believe it may show the iceberg that sunk the titanic. and it's going up for auction.

a popular main line restaurant once infested with roaches. >> eagles don't get any points for style but manage to pull off a prime time win placing them atop the nfc east. good morning, it's 6:30 on this tuesday october 20. tam is off. erin o'hearn joins us. we also have david and karen. good morning. >> such a big win for the eagles to get last night pretty or not. we're starting out cool, not quite as chilly as yesterday. satellite shows that you we will get some sun up over the horizon. there's some cloud cover trying to dig in from the north and west. don't know how much it's going to be able to push in but we'll probably see a little bit of that today. high pressure trying to melt most of that away across our immediate region. 48 degrees in philadelphia, 45 in allentown, 44 in reading, 43 degrees in trenton, 44 in wilmington and 52 in sea isle city. there's a bit of a breeze adding to the chill but when you look at the difference between where we were this time yesterday and now, we're actually 12 degrees milder in philadelphia and a full 18 degrees up in allentown. so, better than yesterday but still coat weather.

as we go into the afternoon it's going to be even better this afternoon. 46 degrees by 8 o'clock but by noon, 61. and after spending the last several days in the 50's, 3 o'clock this afternoon, how about 68 with a high of 69 around 4 o'clock. gets even milder over the next couple of days, karen. i'll have details coming up in the accuweather seven-day forecast. >> all right, dave, lots of issues going on. a few of them on i-95. first off here on i-95 southbound approaching cottman, the issue is just volume. so we're jammed here from academy to cottman and past the betsy ross bridge to girard. this looks a little different than it did just 15 minutes ago. more people getting up coming to work here. i-95 southbound at the vine street expressway right at the slight we've gosplit we have a d tractor-trailer. we have penndot on the scene. here's the disabled tractor-trailer. now you see at least the flashing lights kind of warning everybody with penndot on the scene, i-95 southbound at the split for the vine just watch for that that disabled t. we had a problem here, another disabled tractor-trailer on i-95 in new

castle county southbound at 141 but it just cleared so traffic is moving better right here. but a couple of issues on the pennsylvania turnpike. an accident here eastbound closing the texa turnpike. between lebanon and reading. eastbound in this area stick to 322 or route 30a new problem on the turnpike eastbound between morgantown and downingtown a disabled vehicle blocks the right lane. a few other issues in the area. we'll get to them in a bit. >> thank you karen. a man was slot and killed in philadelphia's east oak lane section. this happened about 2:30 this morning on the 6700 block of north 11th street. police say the victim who was 28 years old suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the hospital. no arrests have been made and theres no word on a motive. also more breaking news here. intruders tied up two people in a philadelphia home and forced one person to drive to an atm and withdraw cash. police say one of the

intruders bumble his get away. to the home and that's when police say she started to fight back. >> and that's when the female who was kidnapped and robbed got into a physical altercation and started screaming which was great because someone called 911 and that's how police were alerted to this entire incident. it was a person screaming. >> reporter: so when police arrived and found the two men struggling with the woman, police went to apprehend the man with a hammer and police say he jumped into the victims white honda that was still running and tried to flee but two officers jumped in the car and took him into custody. the victims were taken to the hospital. the man was stabbed and beat up but police say he was walking and talking and police continue to search for surveillance footage at this time. live in kensington, katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> thanks for the update, katherine. developing in camden, two separate shootings injured two people overnight. gunfire first went offer at rose street and whitman avenue around 1:00 a.m.

around the same time someone got shot three blocks away at thurmond and new porter streets. police found an abandoned bicycle near a corner store. both victims are in critical condition. it is unclear if the shootings are related. >> this is new. a single car crash jammed i-95 just as eagles fans were trying to leave the game. it happened on the northbound side near packer avenue in south philadelphia at around midnight. investigators say the driver lost control and then struck a penndot construction sign. the driver is being checked out at the hospital. it took almost an hour to clear the accident. >> new this morning, a main line restaurant that was shut down due to a roach infestation is now allowed to reopen. radnor township health officials cleared yangming in bryn mawr last night. back in august a customer found a roach in the meal. days later, a surprise inspection revealed more roaches and sewer pipes dripping on food. yangming's general manager blames a broken ventilation system.

the owners had promised to renovate and refurbish the restaurant. >> biden watch continues this morning with anticipation building in washington and the vice president's hometown in delaware. speculation is growing that joe biden plans to launch a 2016 bid very soon. biden himself continues to skirt the issue with reporters. >> i'm the late joe biden and i just want you to know as much as i love you, i've been in a meeting with the president on another matter for the last two hours and it's hard to say, mr. president, you're on your own, i'm leaving. although he is on his own, he doesn't need me. >> philadelphia area congressman brendan boyle tweeted this yesterday. "i have a very good source close to joe that tells me vp biden will run for prez." republican candidates donald trump and ben carson requested protection from the secret service. the secretary of homeland security will assess these requests along with five senior members of congress.

because whatever bit on the breezy side this morning. temperatures 48 degrees, cool outer there, certainly cool enough for coats but not nearly as chilly and as cold as it was yesterday when some spots were in the 20's. dewpoint 38, nice and dry air. winds out of the west-southwest at 10 miles per hour and occasionally we're seeing it up a little bit higher than that. so, bundle up a little bit this morning and get ready for at least a light breeze. satellite showing us that some of this cloud cover is trying to make a run at philadelphia. there's high pressure down to the south that's kind of doing battle with the clouds. overall we're going call for a mostly sunny day but we have to allow for some of those clouds at times to make it down out of the north. 46 by 8 o'clock, 53 by 11 o'clock, so still cool during the morning hours but a big change today. instead of highs in the 50's we're going go well into the 60's across much of the region and in philadelphia we're looking at a high of 69, probably around 4 o'clock this afternoon. late day high temperatures from north to south, 67 in allentown, very similar to philadelphia, 67 in reading, 68 in wilmington and trenton. down the shore probably the mid 60's today. milder than yesterday but

still a bit cool. we've been in the 50's for three straight days with below normal temperatures but we're really going change with the jet stream going back up to the north, high pressure setting up off the east coast and giving us that southerly flow that will get us well into the 60's today as you just saw and into the 70's tomorrow and also on thursday so a nice stretch of three days before that next front comes through and knocks those numbers back down. today sunny and milder, 69 degrees. tomorrow warm and pleasant, 74. and on thursday, still warm, 75 degrees. notice how the overnight lows are only going down to the 50's in philadelphia, so this is a really nice three-day pattern both in the afternoon and relatively speaking in the morning. now, a front will come through on thursday night triggering a shower. behind it we cool down again. 62 is your high on friday and we start out the weekend fairly bright but a high of only 62 degrees. then on sunday ahead of another front we get mild again, up to 69 degrees with increasing clouds. late in the day on sunday or sunday night there could be another shower around from

cottman, also 17 miles an hour at girard. we're heavy academy to cottman, betsy ross bridge to girard so watch for those couple of problems on i-95. in kensington f street is blocked at allegheny with that police activity that katherine scott has been talking about so watch for that one as well. so we've got the police activity and that disabled tractor-trailer we've been talking about on i-95 southbound right at the split for the vine that's been causing problems as well. in quakertown bucks county, we've got a problem with 309 southbound its been blocked for about an hour here between toll gate road and rich hill road due to an accident so stick to old bethlehem pike to avoid the problems there in bucks county. a couple new issues we have going on. this accident in royersford just happened on ninth avenue at main street. also we have some debris in the roadway blocking the right lane right on 422 eastbound near royersford. we're hearing it's like a crate that somebody dropped out there so people are kind of swerving around it so be careful about that. also a disabled vehicle it's on the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound between morgantown and downingtown. you've got a problem right
