>> hey everyone, it is 6:00 a.m., thursday, december 17. tam is off, erin o'hern joins us, we're following a developing story. >> this is the second fire in two weeks at this delaware church. we're live on the scene with the investigation. >> police are questioning a man about the brutal murder of his elderly father. >> accuweather is tracking rain and a chilly change. >> we're not seeing just yet, are we? >> reporter: no, good morning, everyone, we have showers near gettysburg. down along the delaware bay northeast of dover there's a shower starting to buckle through. we might have the showers coming in during the morning rush. the main rain is to the west and

sprinkles in delaware at this point. temperatures are cool, but well above average for this time of the year. 48 degrees in philadelphia. 50 in allentown. no winter coats necessarily needed today, but you know, certainly jackets a good idea. as we roll through the day, 8:00 a.m., mainly cloud a couple of sprinkle around, 47 degrees, you don't have to go overboard on the rain gear. by noon you'll want the rain gear with the rain coming down and buildings in the afternoon. 47 degrees by 8:00 a.m., noon, 55 degrees, 3:00 p.m., 58 degrees. karen. >> reporter: we have a car fire on i-95, all the crews have left the scene. i-95 northbound near the airport the car fire cleared all lanes back back open. we had late running construction

on the vine expressway, now traffic is okay, we had delays westbound because it was closed for a while, traffic moving better at this point right now. we have a few accidents out here, it's on the ramp from sanatoga to 422 eastbound that ramp is currently blocked, you've got to use the on-ramp for limerick, linfield instead. we have a pole down from an earlier accident. godshall road is blocked near fair view drive. stick to allentown road. we had an accident on the new jersey turnpike, it was busy, traffic is moving better southbound approaching exit 8. >> fire investigators remain on the scene sifting through the rubble of a delaware church that went up in flames late last night the second fire this

month. annie mccormick is live at the new jerusalem missionary baptist church in wilmington. >> reporter: matt, at this hour fire crews are still on the scene keeping an eye on the build. you can see the rubble behind me, they are keeping an eye on this concerned that hot spots may pop up here. this is the second fire to hit this church in this month alone. they are investigating whether or not they believe it could be suspicious. >> reporter: flames ripped through new jerusalem missionary baptist church in wilmington last night. the fire broke out at 7:00 p.m. it was fully engulfed in flames and we want to a second alarm. firefighters had to focus on keeping the flames from spreading. it damaged 6 homes and injuring a firefighter. church members told us the congregation was excited that renovations were coming along after the december 2 fire

damaged the church. now it's destroyed. >> it was a great loss, there are people who love the lord and put a lot of energy into it. we were out here today talking to the men who had cleaned it. i was so enthused with seeing the progress. >> reporter: there is still no cause for the fire that broke out earlier this month and fire officials can't say if they are calling last night's blaze suspicious. >> reporter: would you say the fire is suspicious. >> can't comment on that right now. >> reporter: why are you calling the atf in? >> because it's a church fire. >> these people their homes are messed up, the church is gone, it's heartbreaking, it is, i trust in god, he knows all things. >> reporter: and we are told that the renovations that were happening because of the december 2 fire were going so well they expected to be back here to have stlees -- at least

not services, but functions in time for christmas. the firefighter who was injured is okay, she suffered a back injury and was treated and released from the hospital. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> it's a horrible set back for the congregation. >> fire cruise knocked down an an -- fire crews knocked down an garage fire in kensington about an hour ago. crews brought the fire under control in 20 minutes, there were no reports of injuries. philadelphia homicide deserves are investigating a deadly shooting on the 4600 block of kingsessing avenue. a man was shot multiple times. arriving police officers rushed him to the hospital, doctors could not save him. we could learn more on the brutal murder of a an elderly man. the 82-year-old was found dead inside his home. he had stab wounds to the face and head. detectives are questioning his

29-year-old son who lived in the home on the 5700 block of woodbine avenue. charges are pending. >> happening today, meek mill is back in a philadelphia courtroom for his latest parole hearing by repeatedly changing his court approved travel schedule. common pleas judge is threatening to send him back to jail because he submitted a suspicious urine sample. his girlfriend promised the court he would honor his parole requirement. deliberations continue in the case of a bucks county woman charged with attacking two men. the 25-year-old told jurors she never shouted slurs or threw a punch in the violent assault. witnesses said that's not true.

if convicted she could face several years in prison. federal reserve increase in interest rates could be bad for those with credit card debt and good for those when savings. maribel aber has more. >> reporter: the federal reserve raised key interest rates by a quarter point banks responded raising their prime lending rate. the banks didn't raise the interest rates on savings accounts object cds it will take more rate hikes before savers see the increase. we have a report on weekly jobless claims we'll watch for today. drivers in the u.s. saved $540 thanks to lower gas prices.

commute. 48 degrees is the current temperature, cool, but well above average. not much wind, dress appropriately in layers and you're fine. 48 in wilmington, 46 in millville. 53 in cape may. as we taking a look at future tracker 6, again, basically dry for the bulk of the morning commute. toward the end of the commute around 8:30 or 9:00 there's a chance of a couple of sprinkles or showers build in. it is after the commute that the heavier stuff comes in. here's the 12:00 view. you can see we'll be inundated with heavy rain. the heaviest reign is close to -- heaviest rain is from philadelphia down to the shore. 4:00 p.m., the beginning of the evening commute looks wet with pockets of steady rain. looks like between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. this may get off the coast and by 8:00 p.m. there's lingering light sprinkles and showers. we start out with the light stuff and we get steady and end

with spotty light things. how much are we expecting? the idea of an inch or more than that. some models closer to a half inch. in philadelphia looks like it will be a steady rain in the afternoon. cloudy skies in the lehigh valley. periods of rain, not as much overall in allentown. high of 54 degrees maybe a half inch in the rain gauge by the time we're done later on in the evening. cloudy skies at the shore, periods of rain, 60 is the high, a better chance of getting the inch closer to the shore. in philadelphia, going for an inch of rain. cloudy skies and periods of rain as you saw on future tracker 6. not so bad during the morning commute, but building after that. winds southeast 6 to 12. here's where numbers are going. 47 degrees by 8:00. mainly cloudy skies, wet from 11 to 5:00 p.m. the high of 59 is around 3:30 or 4:00 p.m. rain tapering off in the

most of the green you see is out by gettysburg and baltimore slowly inching in our direction. there's a scattered sprinkle-type shower east of atlantic city, that crept up from the delaware bay and northern cumberland county. there are lighter showers southeast of washington. during the morning rush how are you may see something, but the main rain is holding off until the end of the rush. 48 in trenton. 49 in reading, 50 in allentown, 354 in sea isle city. it's rain day kids, you'll need the rain gear on the way home. noon, 5. between 8:00 a.m. and noon we'll see the rain arriving getting steadier and it stays steady through the afternoon. 6:00 p.m., 54 and the rain is beginning to die down in most spots then. we're tracking the rain for future tracker 6 in a couple of

seconds we're talking about a big chill down for the weekend karen. >> reporter: we're looking live at i-95 you can see how we are jamming up already. southbound traffic is jamming approaching cottman and allegheny to girard. a 20 minute ride from woodhaven to the vine. those delays are starting. look at the delay on the schuylkill expressway. this is the blue route that's eastbound traffic heading toward the conshohocken curve, you can see how heavy you are from the blue route to the curve, slowing montgomery to girard, westbound jamming city avenue to gladwyn. we had an accident that cleared closing the ramp in limerick sanatoga to 422 eastbound that ramp reopened. franconia township. we had an earlier accident, they cleared the accident, but the accident brought down poles and wires. the crews are on the scene trying to fix it. godshall road is blocked between

fairway drive and indian creek road. stick to allentown road instead. >> flames devoured a delaware church, the second fire there in two weeks. authorities are investigating the latest blaze which was much more devastating. "action news" reporter, annie mccormick is live outside the new jerusalem baptist church in wilmington. annie. >> reporter: and matt, this morning church members are devastated. look at what's left behind me, there's just rubble there. fire crews are still on the scene. wilmington fire department think the fire is suspicious, the atf is investigating along with them. flames ripped through new jerusalem missionary baptist church in wilmington. the fire broke out before 7:00 p.m. it was engulfed in flames and went to a second alarm. firefighters had to focus on keeping the flames from spreading to nearby homes. it ended up damaging 6 homes

gets answers soon. an overnight fire damaged is building in center city philadelphia. it broke out on the 200 block of south 13th street. firefighters did a sweep of the third floor where the flames started. no injuries were reported. new, philadelphia police are searching for a stabbing suspect who knifed man in the chest. it happened in the 5800 block of theodore street in southwest philadelphia. the victim is in the hospital. the motive for the stabbing is unknown. crews in berks county worked through the night to clear a nasty crash as you can see there, a truck plowed into the house last night. debris struck the man inside the house on north reading avenue. he is in the hospital. the driver was not hurt. authorities believe the driver tried to move over for a tractor-trailer when he lost control of the vehicle. >> autopsy will determine if

anyone will face charges for a child's death at a day care in north philadelphia. sister's child care center on the 3500 block of germantown avenue. a witness said she saw a woman walk out of the center holding what appeared to be a lifeless baby. the 10-month-old girl's death is being investigated as suspicious. the first trial in the death of freddie gray ended in a hung jury. baltimore police officer william porter was one of 6 officers charged in connection with the death of gray. he died after suffering a broken neck in a police van while handcuffed and shackled. a small group of protesters took to the street, but there were no violence. >> this sets the tone for other future trials we can no longer

the morning commute could be damp in spots, but in general not as bad as after 10:00 a.m. at times it will be coming down pretty good. as we go to 4:00 p.m. it looks like it's a wet beginning to the evening commute. as we go through the commute and up to 6:00, 7:00. looks like most of the rain has a chance of getting off the coast. the morning commute probably mainly dry, a little damp possibly, but getting wet during the later morning hours and staying wet through the afternoon. things will improve, however, as we go into afternoon and evening. how much rain are we expecting? looks like an inch close to areas down by the shore. the northern and western suburbs a half inch. 47 degrees by 8:00. between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. we see the rain arrive, it gets steady at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. 57 by 2:00 p.m.

had a live update 18 miles per hour. it's that time in the morning where you see things slowing down. 32 eastbound on the schuylkill expressway near girard. 58 miles per hour as you move past the vine. we have problems in kensington fire department activity. watch for it at hope and huntington. use front an lehigh as the alternates. we had an accident in conshohocken that cleared, 9th and fayette street. crews left the scene. you can see the slow speeds around the curve on the schuylkill expressway. 32 degrees. franconia township, downed pole and wires, cruise are out there -- crews are out there fixing the poles, godshall road and fairway, use allentown road. we have rain a little ways off, we're watching for sprinkles moving in ahead of the rain.
