>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m. on this friday, december 18. tam is off, erin o'hern joins us, and breaking right now. >> a delaware state trooper comes face-to-face with an armed intruder and opens fire. >> we have new information about a deadly crash near a montgomery county college campus. >> two men are behind bars after another knife attack in center city. >> the temperatures are dropping as we speak. let's turn to david murphy and karen rogers. >> reporter: it's a chilly start across the region right now. take a look at satellite and radar, cloud cover aplenty across the region this morning. you can see the rain off the coast, southern delaware is getting clipped with a shower. cape may might catch a bit of that in the next couple of hours. 43 in allentown. 40 in reading, 45 in wilmington,

49 in trenton. even though it's milder at the shore, everywhere there's a bit of a wind beginning to build across the region. up to 18 miles per hour in philadelphia. and today will be on the breezy side and the temperatures you're seeing in the 40s will stay there today. 8:00 a.m., 46 degrees. by noon, back up to 48 and the numbers don't go all that far for the next several hours. 3:00 p.m., we get a high of 49. by 6:00 p.m., down to 44 with the breezes starting toese -- to ease back a little bit. if you're going out on the town, you'll have to bundle up a bit. >> reporter: what a changing scene with the breaking news in plymouth meeting. this was an accident where the vehicle was facing the wrong way. i showed it to you even before the police was there. the guy was facing the wrong way. we have police and penndot on the scene. they are getting ready to pull

it out to the tow truck. there is fluid on the road. we saw a fender up ahead in the lane. they have a lot to clear out. the blue route northbound approaching the mid county tolls. at least now you can see the accident as you're heading in the area. for a while it was one guy in the lane. we have fire department activity in olney, blocking north 5th street at rockland. stick to masher to avoid any delay there. live on the boulevard this is southbound traffic moving just fine as you head toward the schuylkill expressway no problems, the roads are dry, it's clear out there. one more live look, i-95 southbound traffic approaching cottman you're doing already an easy 14 minute ride southbound from woodhaven to the vine. we know we'll jam up later, it hadn't happened just yet. >> breaking overnight, a delaware state trooper shot a man who police say was armed

investigate a home invasion. troopers were investigating last night when they arrive a man fired at them, the trooper returned fire and hit the man in the lower tore -- torso. the trooper and five other people who were inside the home were not injured. ursinus college in montgomery county said a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a crash near the campus was a student. the striking vehicle remained at the scene. ursinus college said in a tweet overnight we're sadden to report the fatal accident that involved an ursinus student, more details to come. >> fire crews battled a house fire in olney section of philadelphia. the blaze broke out on on north 5th street. nobody was hurt.

crews were able to contain the fire in less than a half-hour. also new, philadelphia police have two men in custody in connection with the stabbing in center city. it happened under the convention center overpass near 13th and arch after 10:30. police say when they arrived they saw three men on the ground in the middle of the street. >> a witness told police plighter to our arrival she saw the two perpetrators on top of the 44-year-old victim. she said both of them were stabbing the victim numerous times. >> the victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition. police recovered a knife at the scene. they are also checking nearby surveillance cameras. >> another silicon valley company is joining the trend of offering more leave for moo mother -- more mothers county dads. maribel aber has more. >> reporter: happy friday, matt,

the crash scene has been the site of numerous accidents. syed farook neighbor who is facing terrorism relaced charges is scheduled to be back in court next week. marquez bought the new assault rifles used to kill 14 people and two dozen hurt. this was not marquez's first connection with farook. they plotted to launch attacks at a community college and busy freeway at rush hour. they never carried out the plans. fbi remove materials from a 19-year-old. he was charged with providing support to terrorists. police say azeze used twitter to support isis and they found a backpack with amunition.

see the flick say it's great. good morning, everyone, tam is off, erin o'hern joins us, and here we have david murphy and karen rogers. >> reporter: all right, guys, may the force be with us. there's a chill with us and some wind. take a look at satellite and radar, there's rain that is mainly off the coast of cape may county. you might get clipped a little bit, rehoboth beach is getting rain. we see clouds out to the west we'll wind up with sun returning. 49 degrees in philadelphia. 43 in allentown. 40 in reading, holding on to the low 50s at the coast. those numbers will continue to drop over the next several hours and not come back all that far. the other thing about this morning, temperatures in the 40s and a wind 18 miles per hour in philadelphia. we'll see ten to 20 miles per hour wind throughout the day.

toward center city. heavy from cottman to alagain and girard. -- allegheny, and girard. 21 minute ride on woodhaven to the vine. we're seeing slow traffic exiting off the schuylkill expressway and 30th street. watch for that as you head out. >> we're following a developing story in montgomery county. a crash killed a pedestrian near ursinus college. overnight the school confirmed the victim was a student. annie mccormick is live on the campus in collegeville, annie. >> reporter: and matt, this happened on busy main street behind me, which during the rush peak has a lot of cars going through the middle of the you are ursinus campus, ursinus college did say it was one of their students that was hit and killed. take a look at the video, the accident happened on main street near 6th avenue. the student was struck and killed after being hit by a

vehicle. police say the pedestrian was pronounced at the scene. the driver and witnesses did cooperate with police, we're waiting on information from police, like the speed that the driver was traveling and if they could face any charges. they have not given us any details at this time. you are sinus college put out a tweet late last night saying we are sadden to report the fatal accident involving a ursinus student, more details are to come. we talked to students many found out as they were taking their finals. >> i was actually in a test and everyone like we heard all the alarms going off and all, and we couldn't -- and we got out and we heard that someone was hit and killed. it circulated everywhere, we didn't know who it was, everyone was happy going home and now it's really sad. >> reporter: everybody was happy because it was about to be

everyone leaving for the holiday break. saturday is when the semester ends here, there's a lot of students that left for their christmas breaks. official finals end on saturday, there are a handsful of students that remain here to take their final. they go home knowing they have lost one of their own. reporting live from collegeville. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." >> a basement fire forced out a family in south jersey. the flames started around midnight on the 1400 block of north chesapeake road in camden. red cross is helping the residents. nobody was hurt. philadelphia police are investigating the death of a woman found inside an abandoned home. her body was discovered on the 2200 block of north chadwick street yesterday. detective's have not identified the woman or released a manner of death. happening today, a hearing is scheduled for a former death

north 5th street is reopened. traffic is moving better. the schuylkill expressway 18 miles per hour pretty slow westbound from the boulevard to past bell month. eastbound you've got about 28 miles per hour at girard. i-95 22 miles per hour at cottman. 25 miles per hour at girard southbound. kind of the usual slow go there. the other big accident in burlington county delran township 130 northbound approaching creek road, the accident took down a pole and wires, we have crews blocking the right lane. expect delays 130 northbound in new jersey. stick to river road to avoid two lanes being blocked. it's a big deal on 130. we're dry in philadelphia. you can see the showers in delaware clipping parts of south jersey. watch for that, the rest of the us are dry with lots of clouds. 49 degrees in philadelphia. we'll hold around that high in the afternoon, erin. >> thank you. breaking overnight, the vatican confirmed pope francis
