news a crash involving a septa trolley in southeast philadelphia sent two dozen people to the hospital and we have the latest. and new numbers say that gop candidate, donald trump has a lead amongst republicans but is coming under attack from democratic leader, hillary clinton. and now the christmas holiday and the obstacles that mother nature is putting in place. here is a look at philadelphia international airport, fog was delaying flights up to an hour this morning and we have live team coverage tracking the current travel situation and what is to come in the forecast later this week. lets begin with annie mccormick, live at the airport. >> reporter: rick, today is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the year and at this point, the weather is not too bad that means that
arrivals are delayed about an hour and that depends on what the airports are seeing as far as the weather goes. airport officials are urging people that are picking up passengers here or people that are flying out to check the website phl.org before they come to the airport. no matter which terminal you pick at philadelphia international airport at some point that morning you waited in a line like this. >> madness. this is crazy. >> are you expected this or is this more than you thought? >> more than i thought i have never seen it quite this bad. >> it's crazy but christmas time and we'll enjoy the trip. >> what do you think about the line? >> annoying. >> a chunk of travellers will hit the skies but the majority will drive and both holidays this year are record numbers. >> they are record numbers with over 100 million americans planning to travel for the year end holiday, that is one in

international airport annie mccormick, channel 6 "action news." >> annie thank you. and now to meteorologist, david murphy, you ready david? he is at the big board with a first look at the forecast on this day before christmas eve. >> we are off to a wet start. during the morning rush hour rain came up from the south and got through philadelphia and now one band that is affecting bucks and northern chester county and a little yellow mixed in so not the heaviest of rains but steady and there is more rain coming up but light stuff through wilmington and parts of south jersey and wilmington, delaware, if you look at the wide view, a chunk of precipitation missing us off the coast and that will be an issue for western lancaster county, not too terribly bad here, the wide view on satellite shows you there is that cloud cover in place, and more rain from where i showed you on storm tracker from where that came from. extended south from washington,
d.c. and we are in and out of the rain drops through the rest of the afternoon and midnight tonight, 60 in philadelphia, the number not really moving all that far over the last several hours, we started out in the mid-50s and that increases through the rest of afternoon, we expect a high of 66 degrees, may not hit that until the evening hours and the overnight low, 64 and both of these numbers well above average, and that will set us up for a blow torch day on christmas eve. at the airport we mentioned this for you, delays of 73 minutes now at philadelphia international airport and also 45 minute delay has grown out in chicago, and newark, a 90 minute delay. and in some cases rick we are looking at problems out there with delays and if you are planning on flying later today, you will want to keep your eye on the email in case the airline gets in touch with you about possible delays.
when we come back we'll talk about temperatures in the 70s. >> thank you. now to developing news. more than two dozen people were hurt when a septa trolley crashed with a stolen car here in southwest philadelphia, it happened at 10:00 at 49th street and grays avenue, police say that two teenagers in a stolen car tried to make a turn when they crashed head-on with the trolley, both are in extremely critical condition and they are all expected to be okay. >> from our new jersey newsroom, one person was killed in a crash on the atlantic city expressway, it happened at 5:00 a.m. near route 54 in hammonton, two weeks were involved including a tractor trailer that overturned and the driver of the tractor trailer died and all lanes in the area are still blocked. right now family, friends and colleagues are saying their final good-byes to the state trooper that was killed in a car crash, eli mccarson services
started just minutes ago in glassboro and troopers lined up to pay their final respects. he was killed when his car slam nood a utility pole last thursday, he was responding to a call when he crashed. mccarson was just 30 years old. new photos show the emotional farewell at bagram air force base in afghanistan, for the six americans killed in a suicide bombing earlier this week including sergeant peter taub, he graduated from cheltenham high school in 2004 and his family did not know he was in afghanistan because he didn't want them to worry apparently. he was in the service for eight years and recently reenlisted for another four years. >> a good personality funny and thoughtful and a good family man and loved his wife and more
importantly he loved his daughter. >> a family friend created a go fun me site for taub's wife and daughter. police in bucks county arrested a 5-year-old man accused of abusing a child at his wife's day care. lawrence's wife operated the little joy's day care out of their little falls home, according to police lawrence inappropriately touched one child ta was left at the day care several times, now officials are concerned that he may have assaulted other children since then. anybody with information is asked to call falls township police. turning to politics, democratic frontrunner hillary clinton is hitting back at donald trump. he is calling the latest attack disgusting, sexist slurs, this comes as the newest numbers show
trump with a commanding lead of the republican race, a new poll showed that 79% of republican voters back trump for president, ted cruz second place with 18% support and marco rubio and dr. ben carson are tied in third with 10% each. abc is following the race for the white house and here is the latest live from the nation's capital. >> reporter: good afternoon rick, on twitter today, donald trump is accusing hillary clinton of playing a quote, war on women card. >> donald trump now blames the mainstream media for mischaracterizing the way he described clinton's loss in 2008. he claims the term he used was not vulgar but hillary clinton's campaign calls it degrading

thought she was stable and should be released. but she said she was having breathing issues and wanted to stay and police officers escorted her in handcuffs from the hospital. >> i said barbara, barbara, she still didn't respond and i said you all done killed her. >> police say that dawson was taken out of the handcuffs and brought back into the hospital after she chanced. dawson died shortly after being returned to the hospital. las vegas can put on a show but rarely like this one, a fire ball raced through the sky in sin city last night. this is debris from an old russian rocket. it came from yesterday's launch in kazakhstan, it exploded over las vegas and people thought it was a meteor.

outside, we have cloudy skies on the action cam earlier, someone going for a jog there along fairmount park in kelly drive, you can get that sort of thing everywhere, and get the app on your smart phone and head out for a half hour jog. temperature 60 currently and the wins are out of the east at 8 miles per hour and not all that strong, we have thick fog in spots but that is no longer an issue, at least not for now. 56 currently in allentown, gray and damp, 58 in trenton and 55 currently in cape may. future tracker 6 picking up the rest of the rain story as we go up to 4:00, you'll still probably want to keep an umbrella handy, it's not raining everywhere all the once but it's pretty damp and by 6:00 or 7:00 there could be heavier bands of rain coming in and after midnight we'll see this wind down a bit but certainly between
10:00 and 11:30 tonight with adam and cecily they can show you something with the late rain pounding down. and the same for 4:00 for that matter. a high of 61 degrees in the lee lie valley and high of 61 down the shore and the high in philadelphia is 66, and all the highs may not hit until after the dinner hour, we'll go for 66 but it could be 7:00 or 8:00 before we hit it, periods of rain and 64 overnight and temperatures rise overnight and that sets us up for a warm christmas eve. 66 is the high and periods of rain on the way into tonight, and 66 we tie a record high for this date if we hit it. and tomorrow a record shattering high of 76, the daily high 64 and the record high in philadelphia for any day in
december is 73, and we could shatter that, and maybe a rumble of thunder later in the day and christmas day a stray shower but another warm high of 70 and both christmas eve and christmas day, i think you'll see sunshine poking through and cooler on saturday damp with rain around and 68 on sunday with showers and next week cooler but still above average, no sign of true winter comes just yet. >> it's coming.
