>> good morning everyone, it's 5 o'clock on this wednesday, february 17th. we're following several new and developing stories. >> a police officer is on the mend after gunfire erupted in allentown last night. >> the search is on for the vandals who left their mark on a philadelphia park. >> a calm are end to the work week is on tap compared to the wild weather that we started with. >> let's get details on that from meteorologist, david murphy and karen rogers. good morning. >> a little bit chillier than it was yesterday afternoon so that's one little change to the forecast but, yeah, the rain is gone. looks like any kind of icing situation we had yesterday morning all in the rear-view mirror. we have a lot of clouds this morning. there will be some sunny breaks and you can see some holes opening up down by washington but generally speaking more clouds than sun as we go through the day. yesterday we had strong gusty winds going as high as 50 miles per hour or more. this morning a driver's alert. there could be debris on roads especially side streets and maybe some of those less traveled areas so keep an eye out for that. temperatures are cool. we're down to 35 degrees in
philadelphia, 36 in allentown. 35 in trenton. 35 in wilmington. 36 in reading. 30 degrees little below freezing in millville, new jersey, at this early hour. and as we head out into the drive way or the bus stop, it looks like mid 30's, excuse me, between 6 6:00 and 8 o'clock. numbers will improve a bit but stay cooler than yesterday with a high of just 44 degrees around 3 o'clock. excuse me. little bit of a breeze blowing and we've got clouds mixing with some sunny breaks. there's a slight chance of a spotty snow shower in the northern and western. your seven day coming up karen. >> dave we're looking live here in chalfont bucks county. what a difference a day makes. 202 parkway at bristol road one of the spots yesterday we saw slush. not the case today. we're nice and dry and clear. david talked about those 50 miles an hour wind gusts and they have done some today. here they brought down a tree and that tree brought down wires so it's an issue here in tinicum township and river road is still shut down between smith town road and dark hollow road.
stick to mount airy road as your alternate for that one. if you're about to led to the tacony palmyra bridge, don't. it's about to go up so head to the betsy ross bridge instead. scheduled for a 5:05 opening n mount laurel burlington county we have a serious accident here. we're hearing that someone trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle. of this accident and they've shut down the ramp from the james fenimore cooper service area to the turnpike northbound. the ramp is shut down. we've got fire police crews on the scene trying to help the victim. one more issue is a downed pole from an earlier accident still out here on 168 southbound near nicholson road. matt and tam. >> thank you karen. we are learning more about a shootout that put an allentown police officer in the hospital. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live at lehigh valley hospital where the officer is recovering to fill us in. katherine. >> reporter: matt, this all remains under investigation this morning but the officer was taken here to lehigh valley hospital last night after being shot while they were serving a warrant. the suspect was taken here,
too, but police haven't specified what his injuries are. this happened a at 616 godfrey street in allentown just before 10 o'clock last night. an exchange of gunfire as allentown police were executing a search warrant at an apartment there. police had the area surrounded. neighbors reported hearing officers using bull horns and strucking someone to drop their weapon. some nearby residents were evacuated and allowed back home around 1:30 this morning. the chief of police says this started as officers went to serve the warrant. he says first the suspect opened fire on officers then officers fired back. >> as officers of our emergency response team were approaching the door, they were met by gunfire. one of our officers was struck. that officer is in stable condition at this point in time. >> reporter: now the search warrant was related to a homicide investigation from last sunday when an unidentified woman was found in a recycling bin and what you're looking at right now is video from that crime scene but as for the suspect, police
haven't said what his condition is. they haven't even specified his injuries at this point but we hope to learn more later on today. we're live in allentown, katherine scott, channel6 "action news. >> katherine thank you for that. take a look at this. this is the mess left by an unfortunate accident in somerdale, new jersey, last night. a customer hit the park at a pizza parlor driving through the front of the storm. the owner brought the place just a few months ago. he says if it wasn't for apple's in the back that he walked over to clean up he likely would have been run over. >> i'm erin o'hearn at the big board. not a lot of love being shown at love park. gravy fatty that was cleaned up over the weekend popped up again yesterday. many skaters say it is in protest to renovations that will force them from the park. the vandalism started after mayor kenney's office lifted the ban on some skateboarding. some of the images are too graphic to show. it appears the vandals have left behind written protests before the park shuts down for
a year long multi-million dollar renovation in which much of the concrete will be traded for more grass as you can see in those drawings. it's a change that will inevitably force them out. while some believe the graffiti is a way for the skaters to voice their frustration others see it as one big eyesore. >> it seems to have popped up overnight. i was here like three days ago and didn't notice any of it. it's really incoherent. it's like a bunch of odd ramblings. >> the mayor's office released this statement. it said in response to the vandalism "we were prepared for something like this to happen when we opened it up to skaters." park will be closed off dan the graffiti will be removed before the start of the renovations. tell us was think about the vandalism on the 6abc facebook page. back to you. >> thank you. it is 5:05 and new this morning, pennsylvania's highest court is getting involved in a dispute about whether convenience stores can carry beer. the case pits the beer distributors against the
liquor control board and a company that runs sheets stores. the supreme court justices will consider whether a convenience store can sell beer and gasoline without violating state law. only about a dozen businesses that have gasoline pumps currently sell beer to go in pennsylvania. >> happening today, former olympian and reality tv star caitlyn jenner will visit philadelphia. jenner will have a conversation with buzz businessinger? is the university of pennsylvania: the journalist is also helping jenner write a memoir. tickets to the event are five dollars for students and $30 for the general public. >> let's talk about accuweather today. a lot better than it was yesterday. >> no kidding. the rain is gone and we are a little cooler this morning but not too bad. storm tracker6 live double scan shows that we are dry which is always a good thing as you're getting ready to get that early morning commute cranked up. as we take a look outside we have sky6 and we are looking at penn's landing. you can see things are fairly tranquil out there. the camera
not shaking a lot as winds are in the single digits this morning. 35 degrees in philadelphia, though. the temperature has dipped down a bit over the last 45 minutes. 35 degrees in trenton, 35 in wilmington, 36 in allentown and 30 degrees below freezing right now in millville. we have popped up above freezing in cape may. you're at 36 degrees there. not a lot of wind. a lot of clouds, though, and again it is a morning for coats certainly. there you see the clouds. there are some breaks down by washington extending back into virginia. we may see some of those breaks as we go through the day but generally speaking we're looking at a day where the clouds are the dominant feature. future tracker6 shows you that later this afternoon there's also the chance of a little pop-up snow shower in the poconos. wouldn't be out of the question that some of this reaches down into some of our far northern and western suburbs but in most cases we are dry today and not having to worry about that. up in the lehigh valley overall clouds mixing with some sunny breaks. cooler. a little breezy. winds running about eight to 16 miles per hour across the region today. and a high of 43 degrees up in the lehigh valley. down at the shore, pretty much the same story. cool on the boardwalk, some
sun mixing with clouds, chilly with a high of 45. and in philadelphia, we'll go for a high of 44 right around average for this time of year and up in the northwest that afternoon snow shower is possible but most of you don't see that. there are the winds out of the west-northwest at eight to 16 miles per hour dropping down from the great lakes and making things a little bit cooler around here. then overnight tonight that cooler trend continues. partly cloudy and cold tonight. dipping to 27 degrees and we'll still keep that moderate breeze in play overnight. and then tomorrow high pressure gets closer to us and that's going to open up the skies, give us a nice sun -- sunny day for the most part but there is going to be a somewhat chilly northwest breeze and that temperature will only get up to 39 degrees. we are going to start bouncing back, though, pretty quickly in the seven day and the weekend's looking good. 44 is today's high, clouds, some sun. again that snow shower possibility up northwest not a real big deal and then tomorrow sunny and chilly, a high of just 39 but at least it will be nice and bright. then friday more clouds build into the picture, a high
inching back to 41 degrees. and late in the day or at night there could be a little rain shower popping in, maybe even a snow shower north and west of philadelphia. for the weekend, though, warm front gets past us and it's looking good. partly sunny and 60 on saturday. and then increasing clouds on sunday but a high of 56. maybe a little shower around sunday afternoon or sunday night. generally speaking that's a nice weekend. and then monday sunny and 53. but by tuesday the clouds will increase and late in the day or at night there could be a mix of rain and snow and that may extend into wednesday. so, tuesday night into wednesday we're watching that. >> okay, thanks, david. beyoncé's super bowl performance upset some viewers and now a tennessee sheriff is going so far as to blame the singer for a shooting that happened near his home. >> a lottery win inspires a massachusetts woman to help a homeless man. karen. >> i warned you about it and now the tacony palmyra bridge is up, traffic is stopped. head to the betsy ross bridge instead. we'll take you to exton chester county see what it looks like there coming up.

with police and fire crews all on the scene right now. let's check the temperatures for you. it's 35 degrees. we are above freezing in the city. 36 in allentown. but just below freezing in millville. 34 degrees in atlantic city airport, 32 in wildwood and temperatures some 16 to 23 degrees cooler than yesterday. we're getting back down to reality. a high of 44 after yesterday's high of 60, matt. >> thanks, cash karen. latest poll says the front runners for each political party has a sizable lead over their rivals in the next presidential primary. the cnn orc poll has hillary clinton ahead of bernie sanders 56 to 38 percent among likely voters but sanders has momentum having gained nearly 20 percentage points since the last poll. donald trump is leading the republican pack with 38 percent, ted cruz follows at 22, rubio 14, bush with 10. south carolina's republican primary is saturday. the democrats hold theirs the following saturday. >> new here on "action news"
flint michigan residents recounted tales of horror as they told the surgeon general how poisoned water has affected them. the doctor spent a second day investigating led contamination in the city's water supply. resident lined up to talk to him. a new study found that even though flint residents are being poisoned by their own water supply they were paying some of the highest water rates in the nation. new on "action news" the tennessee sheriff says his home was shot up and he's making the argument that he was targeted he says because of beyoncé. robert ronald is the sheriff of rutherford county. he says the first thing that crossed his mind after hearing gun shots and he blames his incidents on bee on's performance of her song formation at the super bowl. >> i think we've lost five to seven officers, five deputies, sheriff's since sunday's super bowl. you know, that's what i'm thinking, you know, here's another target on law enforcement. >> neither arnold nor anyone in his family were hurt.
