and they believe the fire was an accident. now to are a story in south philadelphia. a kitchen work, was murdered on the job. katherine scott is live at lee's cafe and bistro on washington avenue. >> reporter: the victim worked as a cook, 54 years old. she was found in the basement kitchen area. there's a takeout on the first floor and restaurant on the second floor and parentally there's a dumb waiter device that moves the food up and down the floor. it's unclear how often people go into the kitchen with the cook was. police were called to the 500 block of washington avenue in south philadelphia around 9:00 p.m. they found the woman downstairs lying on the floor her throat was slashed. she was pronounced at 9:15 p.m. there were signs of a violent struggle in the basement kitchen. the equipment was knocked over and there was severe bruising to
her face. the restaurant was open, four other employees inside at the time and other customers on the second floor of the restaurant. police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses to see if it could provide any clues. these cameras could have recorded someone going to and leaving from the homicide scene. >> reporter: the detectives interviewed the employees who were here at the time it happened. they tracked down the employees who were not here to talk to them to see if they could provide any information. there's no word from police on the motive or the suspects. we're live in south philadelphia. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." happening today, the philadelphia police force is hosting its first department wide community day. the public is invited to get to know the officers in their neighborhoods. most districts have been hosting events like this for years, but this is the first time it's happening on the same day.
