pellets paint a cruel picture of animal abuse in central pennsylvania. >> it's a fairly dry start to your day but drivers might have to deal with a little bit of patchy fog out there for the morning rush. >> good morning everyone, it's 5:30 on this wednesday march 16th. let's get you ready for the commute with david and karen. good morning. >> on infrared satellite that low lying cloud cover and fog generally doesn't show up because the temperature of the clouds are very similar to the surface and that's how infrared shows clouds, it judges that difference in temperature. so, right now we've got clear skies indicated on satellite and that is true in parts of the region but in some areas, there is some low lying cloud cover that has developed beneath that infrared satellite image n some cases the fog visibility levels are fairly low. millville reading and lancaster will be among the lowest below a half mile visibility spots right now. philadelphia two and a half miles. these numbers have a tendency to change though and the general idea of the morning is that most of you will be okay but if you happen to encounter that thicker fog slow it down. 44 degrees and cool to start out in philadelphia, down 40 in allentown, upper 30's in reading, lancaster and
millville so chilly out there this morning. and as we head out to the bus stop, might see a little of that fog around. clear skies otherwise and temperatures holding in the low to mid 40's between 6 o'clock and 8 o'clock. it is one of those days however where we're going bump those numbers up. by 1 o'clock we're well into the 60's. by 3 o'clock, a high of 67 degrees. notice how the clouds get thicker as the day goes on and then by 4, 5, 6 o'clock there's the chance of a couple of light spotty showers popping through especially in the northern suburbs. the pollen count is running lie again today. we're at least in the medium range, a little bit higher than normal this early time of the year karen so if you're an allergy sufferer keep the medications handy. >> my entire house. windows are shut down, everybody sneezing. looking outside live this morning we have some fog to deal with. we're looking live on 309 near the pennsylvania turnpike and we can see reduced visibility in some spots we have it as low as .3 of a mile visibility and we have a new accident just coming in to us right now involving an overturned
vehicle over on the new jersey turnpike in gloucester county southbound just past 322. so you want to watch for this accident involving an overturned vehicle. right now we're seeing the green traffic flow with light volume through this area but i would watch as they deal with this accident and more emergency workers coming to the scene they may have to cause some restrictions on the new jersey turnpike. you could always take 295. it runs parallel. looking live on the roosevelt boulevard we see a hint of the fog here. i think as you're coming in you're driving in and out of it neighborhood by neighborhood. that's southbound traffic headed towards the schuylkill. moving okay right here. how about i-95 near the airport. if you're headed to the airport we've got no problems here, just a few cars up and about not building volume too much on 95. and the big picture reflecting that with speeds mostly in the 50's. take your speeds down a little bit put on your low beams with the fog matt and tam. >> thank you karen. pivotal primaries. more big wins for hillary clinton and donald trump but the end of the road for marco rubio. >> john kasich scored his first victory in his home state of ohio and it raises
the chances a gop race will lead to a contested convention. >> annie mccormick is live outside of villanova university. that is where kasich is making an appearance later today. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tam and 47 all right of that win in ohio kasich announced last night i'm going to philadelphia meaning today in his stop here in philadelphia he will be coming to villanova university. he's expected here at noon today for a town hall. he was invited here by villanova's student government association. john kasich is able to keep going in the race for the white house with a win in his home state of ohio. >> we are going to go all the way to cleveland. >> reporter: frontrunner donald trump took florida, illinois, north carolina and is leading in a very tight race in missouri. he said his campaign is changing the party. >> and the people that are voting are democrats are coming in, independents are can coming in and very
importantly people that never voted before. it's an incredible thing. >> reporter: marco rubio lost his home state of florida and announced he was dropping out of the race. ted cruz did not win any state but still has the second most delegates behind trump. >> tonight we continue to gain delegates and continue our march to 1237. >> reporter: now the question is whether the race will become a brutal fight that will go he to a contested convention in the summer. >> we are moving closer to securing the democratic party nomination and winning this is election in november. >> reporter: on the democratic side, hillary clinton appears to have won all of the races, ohio, florida, north carolina and illinois. she is ahead in missouri but bernie sanders is only behind by 1600 votes. sanders shows no signs of dropping out of the race. >> but we cannot go forward unless we deal with the realities of american society
today. >> reporter: and expect to see mr. candidates making appearances in pennsylvania as we inch closer to the april primary. now, today the doors opened at 11:00. the event begins at noon on villanova's campus. it's free but it's on a first come first served basis. for now reporting live at villanova university, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." matt and tam. >> thank you annie. voters in the tri-state area will have to wait a little while to cast their ballots. the primaries in both pennsylvania and delaware take place april 26. new jersey voters go on june 7th but as jim gardner tweeted last night hey guys at the rate this is going we will indeed matter by the time we get there. >> ♪ >> and new this morning, hazmat crews were called to a philadelphia business to contain a gas leak. it came from a 6,000-gallon tank of liquid nitrogen at the active radiator company. people saw something that looked like white smoke coming from the building at tioga and tulip streets in port richmond overnight. it took about an hour to get that gas leak under control. crews did not say that the
incident posed any health risk to neighbors. >> time is now 5:36 and counselors will be helping students at a philadelphia high school today who are dealing with a tragic loss. a students from george washington carver high in north philadelphia dived bacterial meningitis. two letters have gone out to parents about helping their children cope emotionally and about the risk of infection. we'll have a live report on the student death coming up in our next half hour. a shooting critically injured a plan in delaware late last night. you see the first responders from wilmington crowding around the victim on the 100 block of reed street. the man was shot several times. it is unclear if the shooting happened where police found him or if he collapsed trying to get help. >> two philadelphia families say a landlord took their rent deposits but never handled over the keys. nancy jennings says she put more than $2,000 down to live at that home in the 6200 block of reedland street. she was supposed to move in on february 1st. however, jennings says the
landlord sherri gordon johnson continued to give her the run runaround. jasmine mcqueen says she gave her $800 in 2011 and never got it back. jennings says she needs that money back in order to rent a new home. >> i moved out of my old house to move into this house and i have four children and now me and my four children live in my daughter's apartment that's a one bedroom. >> both women have contacted police. "action news" reached out to johnson who told us that she plans and specifications to give jennings back her money this friday. however, johnson denies taking any cash from mcqueen. >> an abandoned horse that was shot with paintballs is recovering at a chester county facility. the lancaster county spca found lilly in a stable on monday. you can see the remnants of more than 100 paintball shots staining her coat. lilly is also blind in her right eye and likely never saw the shots coming. animal welfare officials are trying to track down the horse's owner.
lilly will undergo eye surgery at the about bolton center in kennett square which is run by penn school of veterinarian medicine and the same place that treated barbaro, remember the race horse. >> let's talk a little bit about accuweather. warmer. >> going to be milder today. got a little fog this morning but as you take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan we are free of any active precipitation other than maybe some drizzle on the windshield from any fog you encounter. as we take a look outside, we are chilly to start out, the ben franklin bridge shows that you there isn't a whole lot of fog in center city and in areas where you don't have the fog you're liable to see the quick return of a lot of sunshine early today. and then clouds get thicker later in the day. temperature right now 44 degrees, 41 is your dewpoint, so again, the airfarely saturated early and in some areas you're looking at that fog. the winds very light. so when you're trying to get rid of fog you don't get that strong wind to help break it up. 44 degrees in philadelphia chilly as you step outside. 40 allentown, 45 in trenton, 42 in wilmington and 46 early
on in cape may, new jersey. as for cloud cover, well, as i mentioned, you get rid of the fog and you got some early sunshine on the way. as we head into the afternoon, 3 o'clock, you start to see the cloud cover filter in a little bit but it still looks like we're dry. as we get past about four or 5 o'clock, though, there is the chance of a little shower popping through the poconos, allentown and all the way down close to philadelphia. this obviously isn't a lot of rain but a couple of spotty showers light for the most part are possible and then we go up to about 9 o'clock and there's a little bit more of that popping through but it really begins to die down after about 9:00 or 10:00. we'll probably transition to partly cloudy skies pretty quickly. in addition to that spotty shower activity and the fog in the morning the big story today for most of you is going to be that temperature. we'll spend the afternoon in the 60's, by noon up to 61 and that's your high today at 3 o'clock, 67 degrees, the mild of the day of the seven-day forecast coming up for you this afternoon with clouds increasing as the day goes on.
and as you saw just a slight chance of a late day or evening spotty shower in a couple of spots particularly up north. high temperatures even up north are looking pretty good today. 64 in allentown, 65 in reading and trenton. 68 degrees on the thermometer this afternoon in wilmington. 64 in millville. down by the shore probably ranging between the upper 50's down to about 60 degrees so a little bit cooler right by the water. and then tomorrow we're still beneath a passing front. still in the mild zone so 65 degrees is tomorrow's high. still well above average. we'll have partly sunny skies overall with a slight chance of a pop-up shower on saint patrick's day. particularly during the afternoon but i think most of the day is dry and it's a pretty good holiday to go out and celebrate as a lot of you like to do. for the weekend though, and this really begins to arrive on friday, but definitely for the weekend, we are look at chillier air rising in and we'll have precipitation later sunday into monday and that's mainly rain but maybe a little bit of wet snow mixed in in northern areas. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast sun giving way to clouds today, a nice afternoon with a high of 67,
mainly dry. tomorrow, we'll go mostly cloudy to partly sunny. it kind of depends on where you're talking. but at times you'll see some sunshine bursting through, a high of 65 degrees. and we are looking at some spotty shower activity in the afternoon. then on friday, a front comes through and we begin to cool down. a high of just 56 on friday. a few showers possible. saturday we get the sun back in play and i know a lot of you are waiting for a day of full sunshine. it looks like we'll get close to that on saturday but a chilly high of just 50. and then another 50 on sunday with a coastal storm dishing more clouds in and the possibility of some rain. now, the farther north you go on sunday night into early monday morning, say, the poconos, maybe the lehigh valley, there's the chance of a little wet snow mixing in because we are going get down to 35 degrees at night on sunday. probably be on mostly grassy surfaces but if it starts to snow sunday night up north you slow it down. monday brisk and cool, a high of just 48 degrees, little bit of rain left over in the morning. back to dry conditions on tuesday the way things are looking now, partly sunny but still rather chilly with a

there. let's talk about another problem here. in new jersey 42, this is your northbound traffic at creek road. some reduced visibility right here so you see the fog affecting you just a bit as you're traveling. i want to bring in the visibility reports and check the very latestly we're at 1 mile visibility in wilmington but just .3 in lancaster. in millville 2.5-mile visibility at philadelphia international airport. so you're kind of driving in and out of the fog as you're headed out so be careful about that. looking at the temperatures right now, it's 44 degrees right now in philadelphia. and today we're warming up a bit. more than 10 degrees better than yesterday afternoon headed up to 67, sunshine to clouds and early fog an issue this morning, matt. >> thank you, karen. at least our commute is not in washington, d.c. this is a live look at a metro station. it is closed all day today. there is no one there and that is such an oddity during the work week. now commuters in washington are making alternate plans because the entire system shut down at midnight and it will remain closed until at least
5:00 tomorrow morning. the fire led to major delays yesterday. crews want to inspect electrical components on the tracks to ensure their safety. federal workers are being allowed to work from home today. >> belgian and french police raided an apartment said to be the related to deadly attacks in parse. authorities say one suspect was killed in the shootout. three belgian and one french police officer suffered minor wounds. the anti-terror apparition lasted more than three hours. schools and a day-care center were all placed on lockdown. four would be burglars picked the wrong home near l.a. the homeowner a 29 year veteran of the police force was in the home waiting to greet them. authorities say the police lieutenant was asleep when he heard a noise in the home. the off duty officer grabbed his gun went to investigate and ended up shooting two of the suspects injuring them. neighbors say the burglars all juveniles had been seen earlier walking suspiciously
