good morning everyone, it is had 30:00 a.m., may, 13. we're following breaking news, intruders tie up a family of free during a home invasion in the city's somerton section. we'll have a live report from the scene. a man walking across the boulevard was struck and killed overnight. happening today, college rowers from all over will be competing along the schuylkill for the dad vail regatta it's that time of year. it they will get wet frome rain, let's go over to david and
karen. >> reporter: we'll see sun early on, there's clouds out to the west, it will be here this afternoon and wet. 61 in wilmington. up in allentown, 64 and 58 in trenton and millville, 59 in dover, mid 50s down the shore as you step outside, on the bus stop, temperatures treating us pretty well, we might slip to 58 by 6:00 a.m., lots of clouds out there, sunny breaks and dry this morning. we're not looking at speckled precipitation or drizzle around. it will be mild, 62 degrees by 9:00 a.m. we'll get up to 72, 73 toward the end of the day. but we're looking at the build up in clouds pretty quickly and during the afternoon in particular a shower or thunderstorm is possible. i'll show you that on future tracker 6, another round of rain for saturday and cool down ahead in the seven day.
>> reporter: we're looking dry, not exactly clear, though, the vine street expressway closed overnight tort on going construction. we can see the flashes lights, and one car moving westbound at this point. officially closed in both directions. it will open in another half-hour. watch for that. i-95 approaching girard, northbound traffic, construction crews are out there, they are blocking the off ramp and one lane expected to clear at 5:00 a.m. we see the construction sign still going on blocking the right lane, the on-ramp, i-95 northbound approaching girard. another issue, broad street northbound between i-95 and pattison avenue. we got the overnight construction blocking all lanes, used the numbers streets to get around that. breaking overnight, a family of three was tied up during a home invasion. the suspects broke into the back door of the home in the somerton section and ransacked the place.
annie mccormick is live where this happened this morning. annie. >> reporter: matt, that family just returned home, they are okay. we spoke to them off camera. they want to get home, back inside, it was an at her at her -- terrifying ordeal, the men were wearing masks. it happened in the 14,000 block of faraaday. they broke into the home and tied up the couple and their son. the intruders fled and left the family of three tied up. police say the men were warmed and they think they gaped entry through the back door. here's what police had to say a little bit ago. >> all three family members were sleeping when they were awoken by three perpetrators. one was seen with a gun in his
hand. all three had masks covering their faces, they began ordering family members to tell them where the money is. the family members said they kept asking where the money was. they got cash from the son's wallet. they heard the intruder say we have the wrong house. they think this may be a case they they went to the wrong home looking for someone else. they had a gunpointed at them with a handkerchief over them, but there was a weapon. this is a safe neighborhood and there's a lot of police officers. there's 90% cops that live in the neighborhood, that often people don't have their alarms on, normally they do, they said
in this situation they are working with police and shaken up. hopefully later on in the day they may speak to us. annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." thank you four that. and new this morning, a deadly pedestrian accidents on the roosevelt boulevard. it happened just before midnight near the intersection of c street and the boulevard in olney. police say the driver had the greenlight when he ended hitting the 22-year-old man. the victim was thrown into the air and landed 50 feet away. the victim was taken to einstein before he was pronounced dead. the investigation is on going. a delaware create instructor is -- karate instructor is charged with rape. police found out when the child told an adult. police say he worked at a karate
studio along kirkwood highway in newark. a list of people involved in the new jersey bridgegate scandal could be released by noon. a man asked the judge to block its release. two of govenor chris christie's allies pleaded not guilty in and alleged scheme to close the bridge for political pay back. christy denied any role and will not be charged. the secret service is planning to investigate donald trump's former butler, he posted on facebook saying the military should hang obama for treason. the campaign said it totally and completely disavows the horrible states. trump spent yesterday on capitol hill meeting with gop lawmakers.
former president bill clinton will be in north jersey to campaign for hillary clinton. the stop is at the college of new jersey ewing township mercer county. bernie sanders is responding to an e-mail he sent out to supporters that talks about the party courting disaster if they nominate the former secretary of state. sanders clarified that clinton could defeat trump, but they would be the stronger candidate. 4:37 a.m., a man who offers free mugs in time square is accused of punching a tourist in the face. a california woman is rescued from a canyon where she crashed 14 hours earlier. >> reporter: wow. i can't believe she was found. we have a jacket on the kids this morning. it's not all that bad out there. some neighborhoods in the 50s, some spots holding on to the low 60s. this afternoon, it's warmer, but rain gear might be required,
annual dad vail regatta kicks off. thousands of rowers will compete along the schuylkill. the nation's largest collegiate rat -- regatta. katherine scott is live along kelly drive with more on the big event. the morning will be nice for rogue, katherine. >> reporter: you know, the broad street run was total pouring rain it didn't stop people. come down to the schuylkill, there will be thousands of rowers and family and friends and spectators. it's early, so it's quiet here on the banks of the schuylkill
river. it will pick up later. the racing gets underway at 7:00 a.m. the kelly drive is closed and will not be opened up to drivers until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow evening. this is the nation's largest regatta with 100 colleges and universities from the u.s. and canada taking part. the start part is north of park avenue, the finish is up at the columbia bridge. the best spot to watch is the grandstand where the finish line is, people are there cheering. there are parking areas if you bring your car, follow directions from kelly drive and there's free shuttle buss from there. take a septa bus from the art museum, that's the best bet because it gets congested.
the race starts at 7:00 a.m. before it picks up along the schuylkill. it will take part rain or shine. david, the rowers will have to deal with rain this afternoon. >> reporter: it will be a little wet, if there's a rumble of thunder they want to get off the water. storm tracker 6 live showing we're dry across the region. we had a chance of a sprinkle or shower popping up, but we don't have that. as we look outside, sky6 live hd penns landing dry, comfortable, too, with mild conditions to start out. here the numbers from the airport, 61 degrees, might slide into the upper briefly over the next couple of hours, but comfortable. winds out of the south at 6 miles per hour. not much wind to deal with. future tracker 6 shows you we are basically cloudy, i could see sunny breaks early, a couple of passing sprinkles and showers as soon as noon we might be damp
with light shower activity. thethe biggest rain of the day s in the afternoon, we get heavier showers and thunderstorms mixed in. this is the 4:00 p.m. view. as we get into the beginning of the evening rush it could be damp. it clears out quickly so in time for the evening plans whether it's the phillies game tonight or dinner or movie, looks like it will be drying out for you. temperatures today on the mild side. 64 degrees by 10:00 a.m. 69 by noon. we'll spend the majority of the afternoon in the low 70s. high of 72 around 3:00 p.m. again it may not be raining all the time, but there's a threat of an afternoon shower and thunderstorm. 69 in allentown and reading, 68 in trenton. low 70s in philadelphia. wilmington, dover, 69 in millville. down the shore, mid 60s again. for the phillies and reds i expect it to be drying for the game. 70 for the first pitch, 66 for
the 9th inning. not a lot of breeze down there, but maybe a sweatshirt or extra layer to put on during the game might be a good idea. saturday morning is dry. as we get into the afternoon the clouds will thicken up a bit. after 2:00 p.m., we'll see another line of showers and thunderstorms develop. by 5:00 p.m. it's coming through the middle of the region. some of the storms on saturday could be strong, but like tonight it looks like they get off the coast fairly quickly we might have to wait a little bit longer for it to dry out, but saturday night looks like a night of improvement. look out for thunderstorms in case they are strong. rails weekend at dover, 74 degrees is today's forecast, spotty showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. saturday, 76 in the afternoon, unfortunately a shower or thunderstorm in dover, sunday looks dry, but cooler with a gusty breeze. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, we're going for a high of 72 today. clouding up fairly quickly and there's a chance of an afternoon

was recording this. the driver was hurt, but expected to be fine. new on "action news," a woman is expected to be okay after being rescued from this crash in southern california. officials say they drove off an embankment in a remote canyon and trapped for 14 hours. she didn't know where she was, the gps helped rescuer find her. she was airlifted to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. a man who offers free hugs in new york's time square is accused of punching a can a madian tourist in the face because she refused to tip him. he was arrested and the incident. he demanded a cash tip from the 22-year-old woman after she took a photo with him. when the woman refused to pay. police say he punched her in the face and ran off. he spoke to reporters as he was led out of a police station.
