6:00 a.m., friday, may 13 we're would coming on breaking news this morning. bound and robbed a philadelphia family is recovering from a home invasion. we're live on the scene. president obama is set to recommend sweeping changes to public schools? support of gender rights. the dad vail regatta starts today, rowers have to deal with wet weather on race weekend. accuweather is tracking the latest. let's go outside to david murphy with his eye to the sky, karen rogers is looking at the commute. >> reporter: good morning, everybody we're off to a comfortable start light winds temperatures around 60 degrees. satellite showing you there is a break in the clouds here and there, we might see sunshine. over high shoulder it's getting

up over the horizon and starting to mix with the clouds. there's rain to the west that will be an issue for us today. 60 degrees is the current temperature in philadelphia. same thing in wilmington, still 6 approximate in allentown and -- 63 in allentown and reading. with the light winds a light jacket will do you. 1:00 p.m., 70 degrees, 3:00 p.m., that's the high, 72. there's a chance of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm. most of the action will be during the afternoon and should be over in time for the evening plans tonight including the phillies or dinner and a movie. pollen front, we're in the low medium range because of the showers and another round tomorrow. in the low zone for a change on sunday. there's a change in the weather pattern that day, too. the weekend call is coming up. look out for the spotty showers, i'll track them on future tracker 6 in a couple of minutes. what are the roads looking like later on.

>> reporter: we're looking at the roads, we're dry 422 approaching oaks, eastbound traffic no big problem. i talked to police, there's an accident on 422 eastbound near armond hammer boulevard. we have fire department activity main street a building fire we have crews on the scene right now. stick to airy street to avoid the crews in norristown on main street. live on the ben franklin bridge we have a touch of fog in the southern areas, you can get a hint of the low clouds. the ben franklin bridge looking fine, we're dry, and no problems here. if you're heading toward the walt whitman bridge we have an accident 676 northbound near the walt whitman bridge we have police on the scene with that one. we'll start with breaking news here, a terrible night for family of three, masked crook

forced their way into a family home and tied up the residents leaving the family bound and robbed. annie mccormick has more from the scene. >> reporter: detectives left the scene a short time ago, luckily nobody was injured, but it was a terrifying ordeal for the family. they say three masked men barged into the home one was armed and tied the family up. take a look at the video. this happened around 1:00 a.m. in the somerton section of the city. the intruders broke e through a sliding glass door and tied up the couple in their 60s and their 37-year-old son. the intruders fled and left the family of three tied up. police say one man was armed. the family returned an hour ago

and told "action news" off camera at least one intruder pointed a gun at them, after demanding the money, the intruders said out loud they think they got the wrong home. all three family members were sleeping when they they were awoken by the three perpetrators. one was seen with a gun in his hand. all three had masks covering their faces. all three were wearing gloves. they began ordering family members to tell them where the money is. >> reporter: and we are told they were not able to find the money they were looking for, but they took off with cash from the son's wallet. this is considered a very safe block because there's a number of police officers who live in the block. they say they have not had anything like this happen to their knowledge. reporting live in the somerton section of the city, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." a gunman fired a barrage of bullets in camden overnight

leaving two people wounded. it happened at 6th and bailey street. a woman is in critical condition. the bullet hit a second victim a man in the hand. the action cam was there as police roped off the scene. new, a driver crashed into a retaining wall in north philadelphia. the action cam was along this scene 8900 block of boulevard after midnight. the driver lost control and hit the utility pole that sent the car flying into the wall. the city inspectors arrived to check the integrity of the wall. no word on what caused the crash. four wilmington police officers will not be charged in the shooting death of a man in a wheelchair. cell phone video captured the incident last september as officers shot 28-year-old jeremy mcdoll. there was no probable cause to charge the officers, but the doj

released a scathing 31 page report highlighting deficiencies in the police department. that report found the conduct by very corporal was quote extraordinarily poor police work that endangeredded the public and the officers. he is the officer who fired on mcdoll. you're saying the officers was wrong, but you're not pressing any charges on them. mcdoll's family is moving forward with a civil case. president obama says public schools should allow transgendered students to use bathrooms of their choice. the white house will be sending the directive to all public schools today. they must allow students to use bathrooms and locker rooms consistent with their chosen gender identity. it will not be a federal law, but the directive will warn schools they could face lawsuits or loss of federal aid. this comes days after north carolina and the federal government sued each other over

"action news" reporter, annie mccormick is live where this happened in the somerton section this morning. annie? >> reporter: matt, luckily, nobody was hurt, but this was a terrifying ordeal for the family. three masked men barged into their home one had a gun and tied the family up. take a look at the video. it happened at 1:00 a.m. in the somerton section of the city in the 14,000 block of faraday. the intruders broke through a sliding glass door into the home and tied up the couple in their offs and 37-year-old son.

-- 60s and 37-year-old son. the family returned earlier this morning and spoke to us off camera and said one intruder pointed a gun at them, after demanding money, the intruder said out loud they think they got the wrong home. back out here live, the intruders kept saying where is the money. the family said we don't have any. the intruders left with taking cash from the son's wallet. we are told this is a very safe lot. there are several police officers that live on the block. residents we talked to moments ago said they are shocked that anything like this happened here in this section of the city. reporting live in somerton, annie mccormick channel 6 "action news." back to you. a man was killed trying to cross the roosevelt boulevard. it happened at c street and olney section of the city late last night. a driver who had a greenlight struck the 22-year-old man and the impact sent the victim landing 50 feet away in the outer lanes. the driver who was 22 stopped at

the scene and was not impaired according to authorities. accident investigators are working the case. a newark, delaware man is i facing multiple accounts of child rape. he is accused of raping and abusing two children under the age of 12. he works at a karate studio. the alleged attacks happened at the victim's homes. this is new video of a raging garage fire in delaware county. flames poured from the building on the 400 block of south springfield road in clifton heights. chopper 6 was overhead as firefighters doused the inferno. no injuries were reported. a list of people involved in the bridgegate scandal could be released by noon. an anonymous man on the list asked the judge to block its

drive is closed. this is the largest collegiate regatta in north america with 100 colleges and universities from the u.s. and canada taking part. the start line is north of hunting park avenue and the finish is above the columbia avenue bridge. admission is free, you can set up along the banks. probably the best spot to watch is the grandstand where the finish line is. you get the rowers when they are not on the water, spectators and families are there cheering for everybody. this regatta is something they work all year for. the entire season is preparation for this regatta. we don't do anything differently per se, we keep an eye we're 100 days from the dad vail regatta. this is a jewel in the crown of philadelphia. philadelphia and boathouse row this is a mecca of rowing and in

terms of what it does for philadelphia, terrific economic impact. and back here live, the athletes are warming up on the water, the officials are gathering nearby us, as well. we're seeing them get ready to go because the races start at 7:00 a.m. inside a half-hour, it's going to be are a great day today and tomorrow, we might see rain, but the rowers say they will push right through it. it's going fob a great time had by all. they throw the coxin in the water, why not everybody get in because we'll all be wet. >> reporter: it will be wet at times this afternoon. my only concern with the sculling is the thunderstorms. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows we are dry to start out. sky6 live hd shows evidence of early sun, but the clouds are getting rather thick and over the next couple of hours, any breaks in the clouds will close

break. blue route, ramp to the schuylkill expressway westbound we have a vehicle off to the grassy median, another vehicle was stopping to check it out. this is happening right now on the ramp from the blue route northbound to the schuylkill expressway westbound and that's when you're dealing with the accident off to the side. as police come to the scene you may see restricts. we have a new accident commerce drive approaching 309 there are injuries on the scene with the accident. you may see emergency workers coming there. 422 eastbound an accident not affecting traffic it was on 422 they have pushed it off to the on-ramp there. check out this travel time. it's 18 minutes that's easy from woodhaven to the vine, we'll take that. not too bad at all. on the waze app we found

the eye. the 22-year-old victim is going back to canada with the black eye. he is charge with robbery and fraudulent accosting. a small plane packed with skydivers crash into a vineyard in california. the pilot was trying to get back to the airport when the plane dipped below power lines and clipped a toyota and flipped into a field. 17 skydivers and the pilot all walked away. 64 people spent two hours on a stuck rollercoaster in tampa, florida. it stopped sudden youly -- suddenly for no apparent reason. they will not reopen the ride until they are sure it is safe. they have out what caused the right to stop nobody was hurt.
