good morning, everyone, it is 6:00 a.m., monday, may 16. here's what's happening. congressman chaka fattah will face a judge and jury as opening statements get underway in his federal corruption trial. we're live with the latest. police are looking for a triggerman who unloaded a weapon teen in south philadelphia. some new jersey lawmakers are looking to ramp up the minimum wage rate to $15 an hour. let's go over to david and karen, it's cold today. >> reporter: we're in the 30s in some areas, sun is up over the horizon, satellite reinforcing that idea. very little cloud cover across the region and plenty of sunshine and reason for the shades as you step outside.

police activities were not affected. today the corruption trial of chaka fattah starts. katherine scott has more. >> reporter: opening statements are expected today at federal court as the corruption trial gets underway. veteran congressman is accused of accepting bribes and misusing campaign funds and federal grants to pay off debts and enrich his family and friends. he served on the house appropriations committee. the 11 term congressman lost his by the for a 12th term in last month's primary. according to the indictment he took an illegal 1 million campaign loan and use federal funds to pay it back. two others pleaded guilty. his son chaka fattah junior is

serving time for a corruption conviction. this trial could last 8 weeks. all along fattah has maintained he has done nothing wrong. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." thank you for that. 6:05. police say a man killed his girlfriend inside a bucks county motel on fire in a painfully bizarre ways toking gas on her while she was smoking a cigarette. it happened at the lincoln hotel early yesterday morning. kevin smalls bought a cup of gasoline from the wawa across the street, he came back to the motel and flung it on 46-year-old melissa bacon smith while she was smoking and left. smalls said he got angry when bacon smith laughed at him. officers found smalls not far away with burns to his hands.

several people at the hotel were taken to the hospital for smoke, they are expected to be okay. grief counselors and chaplains will be on hand today days after two students were killed in a car crash. daisia sulton and mikayla mosley had attended the prom on friday night. their car hit a tree in maurice river township leaving the two students dead and two others injured. the district is taking up a collection for the victim's families. happening today, new jersey lawmakers will consider raising the state minimum wage rate to $15. the democrat-led committee will consider the bill today. new jersey voted in 2013 to tie the minimum wage to the inflation rate, since that remained low it has not gone up much. goodgovernor governor chris chrs

breaking news arc water main break has flooded part of a philadelphia firehouse. "action news" reporter, annie mccormick has arrived at the scene, market and south 43rd in west philadelphia. she has the latest on what she is seeing. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tam, we want to show you the water main break, terry will zoom in, this is 42nd and 43 on market street. you can see the water there and the gravel has crumpled. we're told this is a water main break that happened in the street. now, this is right next-door to

engine five, ladder 6. i am told that the basement of the firehouse has been flooded. they have five feet of water, but luckily this will not affect any service, they are able to respond to all calls in the basement where it flooded that's where they have a lot of their workout equipment. right now when you look back on the street, you can see the water pouring out of there, they are using a fire hose to pump the water out of the basement while the water department works to turn the main off. they are still trying to turn the main off. they have gotten some of it off. they are working on that. no effect on service here engine five ladder 6. market street is closed between between 42nd and 43rd.

let's go over to karen rogers with a look ago i-95. >> reporter: this is i-95 southbound near columbus boulevard. we have a fire truck. from this angle you can see the tankers one is smashed into the other. new to the scene we have a dump truck on the scene. looks like they had a fuel spill. i can see the sand on the roadways. they have fire trucks on the scene, i-95 southbound people slowing down southbound near i-95 near columbus boulevard. you meant to watch for the accident involving tanker trucks been out here for a little while. we have fire crews, emergency cruise on the scene. we have more police back here, another dump truck out here, looks like they have penndot with the arrow board, as well. all blocking the right lane, you see the backup on i-95 southbound near columbus boulevard because of all the emergency workers and vehicles dealing with the accident scene involving two tanker trucks

it's freezing, some of you might want to pull out a coat, the northwest suburbs are waking up to a frost advisory. good morning, everybody, may 16, let's talk about the weather with david and karen. >> reporter: it's cooler this morning, the tempts are not cooperating all that well. i'll start you with satellite, the cloud cover has evaporated overnight. we have sunshine up over the horizon. a temperature of 45 in philadelphia. we're in the upper 30s in allentown and reading and lancaster. trenton was down to to a little while ago. the big story is how it's generally chilly across the region. there's a little bit of frost up in the northern and western suburbs, the lehigh valley through berks county. the frost advisory expiring in another hour and half. 49 degrees by 9:00 a.m. we'll see improvement, but it will be chilly and windy.

we had an ambulance earlier. you're jammed from market to columbus boulevard on i-95 southbound. i want to go to the other cameras because we had another scene on i-95 southbound near cottman. it has cleared, but look at the travel time, 44 minute ride southbound from woodhaven to the vine. that's a huge delay. i-95 southbound really jammed at this point approaching academy to cottman and betsy ross bridge to girard, a 44 minute ride. let's check the schuylkill expressway, we've been talking about i-95. this is the schuylkill expressway looking live past montgomery. eastbound traffic is heavy at this point. westbound is moving okay at the schuylkill expressway. we have a new accident susquehanna road at meeting house road. a bunch of accidents out there right now. breaking news right now, a water main break near a firehouse and market street closed down in part because of this. let's go over to annie

mccormick with an update live from west philadelphia. good morning, annie. >> reporter: good morning, tamala, i want to give you a look rat -- at market between 42nd and 43rd. fire cruise have stopped the water from flowing, they have turned it off. this is on the south side of market street where we just showed you. that's actually a hole in the ground where the asphalt buckled, we are told because of the pressure of the water main break. now, the water was flowing so much that it actually filled the basement about five feet high of engine five ladder 6, which is the firehouse that is here on that block. now, we're told that service is not affected, they can respond to any calls that they need to. basically what's in the basement that's flooded is workout equipment that they have in there. right now they are using a fire hose to empty the water from the

to clear this. blocking the right lane, near columbus boulevard. you're jammed from market to columbus boulevard. a jamup involving two tanker trucks. you can see the emergency workers blocking the right lane, it's a slow-go there. southbound near cottman on i-95 we had a multi-vehicle accident there, as well. it's cleared, but southbound traffic jammed woodhaven to the vine, a 42 minute ride. northbound it's 14 minute ride. it's a big delay i-95 southbound with the earlier accident scene causing a problem. 422 normal volume eastbound right here, 12 minute ride, that's a good five minute delay from oaks to 202. and sun dwhrair -- sun glare will contribute to some of the problems. susquehanna road meeting house road another accident there. and one in bluebell to watch

for. it's only 39 degrees in allentown. 38 in reading. someone on twitter was saying should wear shorts or parents? are you kidding wear a coat. it's 33 in millville. new on "action news," cameras were rolling when a fight broke out on a busy street in houston after an apparent road rage incident. it started when the driver of a white car turned in front of a truck. things escalated. the two drivers got out of their vehicle and started swinging. once the fight was over, the truck driver backed into the white car and sped off. single engine as he cessna disappeared from radar northeast of l.a. search teams found the wreckage and the lone victim in the national forest. the plane was registered to a

does san diego company. tracy pendleton was killed in a shootout in illinois. he was charged with attempted murder in the may 7th shooting of an illinois police officer during a traffic stop. a woman in canada drove into a frigid lake and police blame it on foggy weather and her gps. the 23-year-old said she was following the gps instructions while driving in the dark in ontario and took a wrong turn and plunged into the harbor. the woman rolled down the window and was able to swim to shore. crews pulled it out the neck day. happening now, the world's largest cruise ship is on its maiden voyage to the united kingdom. the 1 billion-dollar harmony of the sea can carry 8400
