good morning it is 5:00 a.m., thursday, may 26. we're following breaking news. a driver is blindsided by bullets in southwest philadelphia and police believe they are closing in on the shooter. we're live with the latest developments. the fight to keeping atlantic city a float could be coming to a close, vote could save the city. the debate over the new jersey favorite pork sandwich, what's the beef. >> reporter: let's go over to our jersey girl, karen rogers

has weather and matt pellman has traffic. >> reporter: we had a hot afternoon yesterday, now at the shore, you're in the low 60s. let's look at the satellite image. we're dry through the philadelphia region. in central pennsylvania we have showers that's firing up due to a system out to the west. we have a slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm. especially north of the city. later on this afternoon. for the most part the day will be dry. sunshine mixing with clouds, high of 89 degrees, that's even warmer than it was yesterday afternoon. you'll feel the humidity again, as well. we have an air quality alert for the entire region. that means the sensitive group, the young, the elderly anyone with respiratory issues, you should not be outside in the heat of the day. matt how are are the roads look?

rang out in southwest philadelphia that left a man fighting for his life. the left -- it left cars in the area filled with bullet hellos. katherine scott has more. >> reporter: the victim is 34 years old and in critical condition. we're hearing from police that a large amount of crack cocaine was found in the victim's possession at the hospital. police brought in two people of interest stopped by the scene they were brought to southwest detectives for questioning. let's go to the scene southwest philadelphia, you can see video of the price -- of the police on the screen. officers on patrol herd the gunfire, -- heard the gunfire, they found the victim between two parked cars with a gunshot wounds to the head. aapparently the victim tried to

make a run for it, the shooter chased him. 15 shots were fired in all, he made it 30 feet before collapsing. most of the shell casings were next to the drivers side of the chevy that the victim was driving. throes at least 6 holes in the drivers side doors and windows. >> reporter: and the shooter ran west on angora terrace and possibly entered a debris or gray van or minivan. a vehicle fitting that description was stopped by on the 5700 block of baltimore. the vehicle and the occupants are being held. surveillance cameras were found about a block away, they are going to review footage to see if they can find any details that will help in the case. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." a fast-moving fire guts a home in north philadelphia overnight. the blaze broke out after midnight at 6th and

cumberland. it took a half-hour to get the stubborn fire under control. no word on injuries or what sparked the fire. a rash of violence in the coatsville area school district has teachers fearful and angry. sometimes there's five, seven fights a day. >> reporter: "action news" obtained a series of videos showing fights in recent weeks. school policy forbids staff from breaking up the fights. the district superintendent said they will review security plans and work with law enforcement to promote peace. a ukrainian man accused of posing as a pennsylvania high school student and having sex with a minor is facing more charges. he is now accused of fraudulently applying for a passport at the harrisburg post office in december. he submitted false information to the social security

administration. victims of robbers in bucks county had a chance to get their items back. this woman helped police catch daulton she caught him breaking into her whitemarsh home and got a partial license number. i feel angry and feel bad for the guy. dalton pawned most of the valuable items. this is dalton's linked in photo and mug shot. his linked in shot said he is a former drug and alcohol counselor. new jersey lawmakers are set to vote on a atlantic city rescue parkage. the legislation gives the city five months to come up with a plan to balance budgets over five years. it eliminates for now the threat
