hours after an american legion post goes up in flames. >> good morning everyone, 5:30 on this tuesday, may 31st. weather and traffic right now with david and matt filling in for karen. >> mostly good news in the weather department this morning. we do have some clouds and down the shore some fog. down in millville a little bit of low visibility as well. but you see the clouds really breaking up out to the west. the rain is moving away from us and we are looking at a transition to a much nicer day today with sunshine returning and humidity lowering as the day goes on. 71 degrees currently in philadelphia. 70 in wilmington, 71 in trenton, 66 in allentown and reading and lancaster and millville as well. and 65 currently in cape may. your dewpoints right now are still in the 60's. remember anything over 60 is an indication of what we would consider humid air. nothing oppressive out there but it still feels a little bit sticky. dry air from the north and west is going to change that today though. on the bus stop partly cloudy mild maybe a little muggy. by 8 o'clock already up to 73. and that's just the beginning. by 11 o'clock we'll be at 82. by 1 o'clock 85. and your high today is a very
toasty 87 degrees with plenty of sunshine. however, we are going to see that humidity level drop through the morning. by the time we get to that 87 it will be what i call a comfortable 87 because it won't be all there humid. still, sunscreen and cool drinks will be important if you're headed out and about today. matt pelman looks like this nice stretch of weather continues for the next several days. i'll have details in the exclusive accuweather 7-day. >> we always like it when it's comfortably we're pretty comfortable with the way the traffic is moving so far this morning david but like you said there is some fog down the shore. if you look live in cape may county along the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza you can see a little bit of that fog. we're not seeing a whole lot of traffic just yet here headed northbound through the toll plaza but we do expect some extra traffic later on this morning on the northbound parkway, the westbound a.c. expressway, the northbound 42 freeway. as people come back from the beach in their -- and their holiday weekend. farther north on the parkway there is emergency construction at the new get florida toll plaza. three of the toll lanes are closed there until further
notice so if you're headed that way this morning, that could cause you some slowing. in gloucester township still have that downed pole along the black horse pike southbound approaching church street. that's where the library sits on the northbound side. it's mostly off to the side. if you're coming back from the delaware beaches this morning, so far so good. speeds in the mid 60's coming up highway one toward bear and christiana. and over on the schuylkill expressway have this broken down vehicle right behind the sign there eastbound just past conshohocken but it's off to the side. no delays on 76 so far on this tuesday. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. we continue to follow breaking news this morning. an ugly scene in the frankford section where police say they discovered a woman badly beaten and her teen daughter sexually assaulted. they say that they're now after a family member. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live outside of police special victim with the latest. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. that's right, this all happened at a home in frankford overnight and police continue to search for the man they believe is behind this sex assault of a 13-year-old
girl and the aggravated assault of a woman. the call came in just before 12:30 this morning and police responded to their 1900 block of pratt street a13-year-old girl met police and told them she had been sexually assaulted in the basement by a family member and that the person who did it was inside the home. police knocked on the door of the home. they got no response. the officers went to the next door neighbor's and climbed over from the second floor landing. they looked through the window and saw a woman bleeding profusely from her head and face. she was missing teeth. the officers notified the swat team who made entry and were able to get that woman to the hospital. they searched the premises butter the suspect had already fled. the teenager was taken to saint christopher's hospital. police were able to talk to her a little bit about what happened. >> after the assault she was able to run out the front door of the property where she notified a neighbor and the neighbors called 911 and that's when police 15th district police officers talked with her and they began
their investigation. >> reporter: and as for there woman, she was taken to einstein in critical condition with severe blunt force trauma to her head. we're live in hunting park, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> katherine thanks. developing overnight a police officer from delaware county is recovering from injuries suffered while chasing a home invasion suspect into philadelphia. "action news" reporter annie mcdorm mick imccormick is live m township with the latest. >> reporter: matt we're told that that police officer from delaware county from tinicum township is okay and only suffered minor injuries. it began with a chase that ended in philadelphia but started after that police officer was responding to a call of a home invasion and saw one of the suspects jump into a car and that is when the tinicum township police officer then gave chase. well, this was the scene in philadelphia after the chase ended. philadelphia police searched a large area around delaware avenue and spring garden. the chase between the tinicum officer and the person he
believed to be a suspect ended with a crash around girard avenue. that's where the suspect then fled on foot. now, this all unfolded around 10 o'clock last night. a 911 call for a home invasion in prospect park brought police from several different townships to the 200 block of lafayette avenue. an officer saw one of several suspects jump into a vehicle. that sparked the chase which went down 95. there are at least two other suspects that fled, possibly on foot, from the prospect park scene. now, back out here live, we are told at this hour that police are still searching for at least three suspects. we're still waiting for an update at this time. tinicum township police won't say much about how many suspects that they are in fact looking for. now, on the video we originally saw that there was one person in handcuffs at the scene in philadelphia but that person was cleared and we're told that that person is not a suspect in this. we're still waiting of course to hear more information but that officer again had minor injuries and is okay.
for now reporting live from tinicum township police, annie mccormick, channel6 "action news." matt. >> good to hear. thank you annie. happening today a hearing for one of the three 16-year-old girls charged in the death of a wilmington high school student. amy joyner-francis died after a fight in the girl's bathroom at howard high school in apri april 21st to be exact. the teen in court today is accused of repeatedly hitting the girl in the head and torso. she is charged with criminally negligent homicide. two other girls are charged with conspiracy. their trials are scheduled for june 15th. firefighters have been checking for hot spots at the american legion post that went up in flames yesterday afternoon. the four alarm blaze broke out on the 2300 block of orthodox street in the frankford section of the city. about 20 to 30 veterans and their families were wrapping up a memorial day banquet when someone noticed smoke. one firefighter suffered minor injuries during the battle. >> republican donald trump plans to reveal what happened
to the $6 million he says he raised for veterans groups. the presumptive gop nominee has been under fire from critics wanting to know what happened to donations from the veterans fundraiser claw held back in january. trump says he'll hold a press conference today revealing the tell and where the money went. a group of animal rights activists briefly interrupted a bernie sanders rally in oakland california yesterday. they jumped barricades and tried to rush the podium. security stopped the protestors before they could reach the democratic presidential hopeful. sanders was also stumping in other parts of california yesterday. now, california was once considered clinton country but polls show he that it is now a tossup ahead of next tuesday's primary vote. democratic frontrunner hillary clinton will attained fundraiser in east brunswick new jersey today. like california, new jersey will also hold its primary one week from today. clinton's special guest will be u.s. senator cory booker. he has campaigned around the country for clinton and has also been mentioned as a potential run make.
>> 5:37. the villanova wildcats will visit the white house today. president obama will welcome head coach jay wright and the men's basketball team to congratulate them on their championship. the wildcats beat the north carolina tarheels last month in their first national championship since 1985. the meeting is scheduled for 4:10 this afternoon and i wonder if they're going to ask president obama why he picked kansas to beat villanova in his bracket. >> i'm sure they've for given him by now. >> i bet they have. >> invitation to the white house will smooth things over. >> all right. we're smoothing over the weather today. storm tracker6 live double scan shows that you we are dry. as we take a look outside we have some lingering cloud cover over north philadelphia and the rest of the region. there you see our temple university camera looking north along north broad. but the sunshine is on its way back big time today and it's going to be warm but less humid as we roll through the morning and afternoon. 71 degrees currently in philadelphia. starting out a little muggy with that dupe which was at 68 is, now slide to go 67 but anything over 60 indicates
humid air. so, still a bit sticky to start out. winds are light at 5 miles per hour. satellite and radar shows you the lack of rain as that system from yesterday finally did get off the coast as expected and now we've got some clearing out to the north and west and eventually those clouds will clear all the way over to the coast. for now visibility a bit of a problem especially down south a half mile in millville and at the airport in ac. we're up to six in wildwood. if you're a mariner and if you have plans on getting in the water in the lower delaware bay or the ocean you might want to give it a few hours as there is dense fog this morning. 73 degrees is your temperature at 8:00 a.m. by 10:00 a.m., 79. by noon 84 and by 3 o'clock that's your high, 87 degrees today with lower humidity. it will be warm enough for cool drinks or, you know, sunscreen, too, all the necessary gear if you're going out on a warm day today but at least it won't be as oppressive and as humid. as we take a look at high
temperatures everywhere pretty warm most spots. 86 degrees in allentown. we expect to be up around 87 in reading and trenton. later today 86, wilmington, 82 in millville. down the shore cool ocean water is going to help keep you in the mid 70's today but still a pretty nice day at the beach. and a nice night at the ballpark. nats and phillies teague it up t up. 85 for the first pitch and 74 in the ninth. then tomorrow frontal boundary still down to the south, humidity still low and we still look at a lot of sunshine on wednesday with a high of 83. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, toasty out there this afternoon, 87, lots of sun on its way back and humidity lowering. tomorrow sunny and beautiful, a high of 83 and a few more clouds around on thursday but still nice with a high of 79 and humidity still behaving itself. really nice for the phillies the next few nights and the union on wednesday. and then friday more clouds dig in, 76 is your high. probably feel a little more humid and there could be an afternoon shower or thunderstorm. then on saturday we're back to the dry weather as a front gets on out of here a-high of

they'll start at 9 o'clock working on the westbound side and we'll be down to one lane both ways like we often are along 422. often in conjunction with that project they also work on north gulph road northbound side at 23 valley forge road during the mid days and they're going to be doing that today and the next few days. may maybe stay on allandale as an alternate. don't want the use 252 through tredyffrin because that remains closed for long term construction. we're also watching some construction that begins today, tonight actually at 7 o'clock along route 100, a 3-mile stretch of it kind of coo right on the berks county-montgomery county line. going to be doing some reis your facing work on that 3-mile stretch through late july. during the overnights coming up for the next couple months watch out for that resurfacing work. in pocopson lenape road is closing again today. watch out for that between pocopson and creek roads. that's through thursday for bridge repairs. 926 an alternate. in haverford township a new zone gets started today along
manoa road that closes 9:00 until 3:00 through late august for work on the gas main. eagle road is an alternate around that. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. if you're coming back if the delaware beaches vehicle stopped on the road on highland road near odessa. matt. >> thanks matt. vandals caught on video setting off fireworks on the front porch of a home in riverdale, maryland. the homeowner says it happened early saturday morning. at least two men were seen in the video lighting the fireworks and running away. the fireworks caused fire damage to the home. police are still looking for the vandals. >> ♪ >> new this morning, an apparent case of road rage turned into a violent hit and run in florida. a witness recorded the driver riding over a motorcycle. the back tires lift off the ground and two people go flying. this apparently all started when the motorcycle cut offer the car in tampa. then the two parties started arguing at the next red light. the driver of the car sped off
after knocking those bikers to the ground but police caught up with him a short time later. the motorcycle riders are now in the hospital. a truck driver in the bronx escaped from an 18-wheeler as you see there left hanging off a highway overpass. the semi got stuck after a crash yesterday afternoon. two people suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. it took crews hours to remonth of that truck which caused major... remove that truck which caused major traffic problems. >> a teenager is recovering from a fall down a waterfall at a new jersey state park. crews had to perform a rope rescue at pallisades state park yesterday evening. the 17-year-old was swinging on a tree and fell onto a rock that gave way into the rapids. rescuers climbed 70 feet to get to the hiker and then towed him to an ambulance by boat. he is being treater at a north jersey hospital for several internal injuries. >> 5:47 now. coming up, new details on the devastating wildfires. of course thousands of canadiens out of their homes. >> frantic search is under way for a little boy left out in

this massive wildfire destroyed about 2400 structures. however, 90 percent of the city remains intact. and new on "action news," parishioners respect shocked and saddened by a plan's destructive ram beige through a california church. it happened after the last service at immaculate heart of mary catholic church sunday night. windows and pictures were smashed and holy robes and other items were burnt or broken. police say the suspect 33-year-old oscar ruiz admitted to their damage and told them he was upset with the vatican. some parishioners say 33 feel violated but also feel for the man who committed the violenc violence. >> this is definitely an opportunity for us to show mercy to whoever committed this. we don't know whether it's a matter of reaching out to -- and praying for that person. >> police are calling on the arson burglary and vandalism a hate crime. >> ♪ ♪

they shot and kill the animal. the little girl has scratches on her face and is recovering at home this morning. >> the investigation continues into an apparent drowning in pennypack creek. authorities suspect the man may have died trying to rescue his dog. two fishermen discovered 68-year-old alexander ross face down in the creek. short time later his wife arrived on the scene saying the family dog was sitting beside the car but ross was nowhere to be found. >> we tone know if the dog went into the water and he went in to get the dog or he fell into the water. but obviously it's a tragic accident. >> police warn that the creek has swift currents and is up to 12 feet deep in some spots. >> 5:57 now and back to work. we'll tell you about the deal that convinced verizon workers to end a seven-week strike. >> we continue to follow breaking news. police investigating the assault of a teen in a frankford section find another victim inside the home. >> ♪
