our very own matt o'donnell heads our team coverage from the wells fargo center in south philadelphia. we'll have more on what's happening today. >> and former president bill clinton he was the big speaker last night. he also got a taste of philadelphia night life. we'll give you details on what was the hottest ticket in town. first up let's find out just how hot it's going to be. we sent dave murphy outside in a suit jacket and karen rogers is inside taking a look all right traffic. good morning. >> it's actually not terrible this morning and it's not going to be that bad later this afternoon although it does look like heat wave day six is on tap. first of all light shower activity in south jersey and delaware. this is pretty light not having major impact on roads butter in some cases s in salem come lands counties new castle county delaware and now gloucester county there is the chance of some roads being slightly wet and it looks like most of this stuff stays to the south of philadelphia today. that little batch will be done toward the end of the rush hour. the wide view shows you a lot of cloud cover out to the west and additional showers and we'll continue to keep our eyes out for an additional

shower or thunderstorm later this afternoon particularly south of philadelphia. the farther north you go the more chance you have of bright sunshine this morning. temperatures 77 degrees in philadelphia, 77 in millville, 80 in wilmington. 74 in trenton. 68 in allentown and 75 currently in cape may and check out the difference that we have across the region in dewpoints. only in the mid 60's in philadelphia. that's not all that humid air but the farther south you go you get back into the 70's and that is very humid air and that's the way it's going stay today. stickier down south, drier up north. 88 degrees by noon. today's high is 91 by 3 o'clock so we'll just barely get into heat wave territory. you got to see 90 or better to keep it going but humidity across most of the region should behave itself today. we have higher humidity across the region tomorrow with the chance of some additional strong thunderstorms tomorrow night. details on that coming up, karen. >> all right dave we're already starting to see delays even at this early hour on i-95 southbound. you can see the traffic here heavy from the betsy ross bridge to girard and that's because of the police check point up ahead near the vine

street expressway. so, the police checkpoint near the vine and also northbound on i-95 near the exit for the platt and the schuylkill and what they're checking for is vehicles over 5 tons that aren't allowed to travel through those points because of the dnc so seeing those slow downs already. in addition to the police checkpoints we expect rolling closures of i-95 at some point today when we have the motorcade for the president and vice president to travel through to the dnc so we're going to see problems here on i-95 and already seeing delays with 16, 14 miles an hour on i-95 southbound. in hopewell township mercer county we've got a downed tree right now that's causing problems. it also brought down some wires. river road between fiddler's creek and church roads. you can stick to bear tavern road as your alternate. still looking at that delay on i-95 and you see problems here through the area. we'll be watching for those delays and rolling closures because of the dnc. now we had there live with matt o'donnell. >> thanks so much karen. good morning everyone from broad and pattison in south

philadelphia. several countries around the world have already elected a woman head of state. in ours, we have never even gotten to this point. the democratic party official nominated hillary clinton for president shattering a political glass ceiling. her former primary opponent did the honors. >> i move that hillary clinton be selected as the nominee of the democratic party for president of the united state states. >> bill clinton attacked the gop's treatment of his wife o particularly at their convention last week in cleveland. >> how does this square with the things that you heard at the republican convention? what's the difference in what i told you and what they said? how do you square it? you can't. one is real. the other is made up. >> the former president who could become the nation's

first first gentleman detailed hillary clinton as a mother a wife and an agent of change for people around the world. former president clinton also was playing host to one of the hottest tickets in town. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live at the reading terminal market with more on that story. annie. >> reporter: matt, who better for hillary supporters to celebrate that big historical moment last night with than like you said the potential first gentleman, our former president bill clinton. that happened here at the reading terminal late last night overnight. well, take a look at this video. this is video of the motorcade that former president bill clinton was arriving in shortly before he attended a private party at reading terminal market. now, look close and you can see the former president along with the secret service detail right there, the market held the hillary post gavel celebration a ticketed only event honoring the 42nd president of the united states after his wife made history.

now, overnight we talked to hillary supporters who stayed up late to celebrate the history making announcement that a woman is now on the ticket to be president. take a listen. >> she cares so deeply about people who are disadvantaged, she cares about our country its place in the world and i just think that it will be a whole new era if we elect her as president. >> there are tears of joy, there's happiness and it's democracy. >> reporter: over the past couple of days we've shown you a number of celebrities both from hollywood, both from the political world that have been here over the course of the past couple days attending day events evening events as well. expect to see many more over the next two days especially a number of big celebrations many that are private planned for the final night on thursday. we're hearing names like snoop dogg katy perry fergie maybe even bruce springsteen. keep your eyes opened.

sabotaged sanders' candidate departments more in the next half hour of "action news." gop nominee won't be too far away from this site today. back to you tam and gray in the studio. >> indeed he will not matthew. happening at a, republican presidential nominee donald trump will be in our state in pennsylvania at a town hall rally in scranton. the billionaire businessman is scheduled to speak at lackawanna college at 3:00 this afternoon. yesterday trump and mike pence stopped in north carolina. they spoke to the veterans of foreign wars could have vince. he was critical noting on the first day of the convention they had dozens of speakers none whom made mention of isis. he has campaign stops in florida wisconsin and then ohio. >> meteorologist, david murphy of course tracking forecast. to tell us relief is on the way. >> before the end of the week. storm tracker6 live double scan tam and gray shows there's a little bit of green on the radar this morning.

these are light showers for the most part. darker shades of green that's definitely getting the roads a little wet. lighter shades of green probably just a real light spritz or drizzle and most of this is moving out of the majority of new castle county delaware and focusing mainly on southern gloucester county, cumberland county, salem county and now pushing into parts of atlantic county and maybe just the northern tip of new castle county, delaware. if we go out wider, most of area is dry and we are expecting most of our rain today to stay down south. obviously that current little batch will be through the region probably by the end of the rush hour. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies over philadelphia with a few sunny breaks starting to build in. and that's going to be the story. a mix of sun and clouds today, with more clouds to their to th. more sun to the north. 77 degrees in philadelphia current. it is dry in the city. wilmington drying out, 80 degrees there. 68 in allentown, 74 in trenton and 75 currently in cape may. humidity not too bad from about philadelphia north but

the farther you go south through delaware and south jersey the stickier it feels. the showers that we're seeing right now are probably off the board after about eight or 9 o'clock and then we get into the afternoon and the model is putting some additional showers and perhaps a thunderstorm down to the south and you see some more of that by 5:30 this afternoon. looks like it will be done by about seven or 8 o'clock so if you are in south jersey down the beach perhaps or in delaware today and you see the skies turning gray and ominous or you hear a rumble of thunder it's out of the pool right away and off the beach. 92 degrees up in the lehigh valley. not expecting any rain up there. still hot, more sunshine up north. not very humid but a high of 92. down the shore especially the farther south you go down the coast it will still feel pretty muggy. 84 is the high though and that's not too bad and in philadelphia a high of 91 degrees. not as intense heat-wise nor as humid as the last several days. but still hot enough for cool drinks. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, today's high 91, day six of the heat wave not all

that humid in philadelphia. more humid down south and in those southern areas a chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm today. tomorrow the humidity returns across most of the region. it will be more humid in general, a high of 93 and late in the day or evening there is the chance of a strong gusty thunderstorm. then friday not as hot, that's the end of the heat wave with a high of 85 degrees but it will still be warm and muggy and there's still the chance of a spotty shower or thunderstorm through the day. for the weekend mid 80's, warm, muggy a couple of thunderstorms possible but not a washout. hopefully dry for the union match sunday night in chester and then monday and tuesday still in the 80's and lower humidity in all likelihood. things are getting better. >> good. >> thank you david. it is now 6:11. call to action. mothers of the movement make an emotional plea to voter on all as i understand of the issues as they backed hillary clinton in a convention speech. karen. >> we're live in south philadelphia where we can see them blockin blocking off southd street at pattison avenue. we're seeing a backup on i-95. we'll take that you live when

a lot going on inside today. president barack obama expected to speak. >> our own matt o'donnell is there. let's check ih karen rogers much she's taking a look at your commute. good morning. >> the police check points related to the dnc have been causing big problems on i-95. they're checking for vehicles over 5-ton and not allowing them to travel on i-95 through philadelphia. so, this is the jam-up we're seeing because of that. this is southwest philadelphia i-95 and this is your northbound traffic right here headed towards the police checkpoint that's at the exit for the platt bridge and the schuylkill expressway. so, already jamming from bartram avenue to the platt bridge on i-95. on monday it took people hours to drive in from delaware into the city. yesterday the delays weren't quite as extensive so we'll just have to see how many people avoid it and travel a different way or a different time. but right now you're traveling at best 22 miles an hour approaching that checkpoint and also really jammed on i-95 southbound. we've been seeing these delays coming out of the northeast all week as well. now traveling about 13 miles an hour southbound on i-95

from the betsy ross bridge to girard so jamming up northbound and southbound on i-95. now i want to show you this. hopewell township mercer county we he had a downed tree it has cleared brought down trees and wires but river road is back opened so better news. here in the commuter traffic report j.j. is up reporting an accident on welsh road in montgomery county so that's on the waze app. it's not entirely dry through the region. storm tracker6 live double scan showing some showers south of the city so we're seeing it in newark. they were in wilmington and now over to 49 right now near millville. route 55 getting pretty wet. elmer and glassboro showing some wet roads. and we can see in cape may county check on the conditions there right now and this is the garden state parkway at the cape may toll plaza where those showers may be headed. might get a little wet there. we head back to the dnc lie with matt o'donnell. hey, matt. >> hello karen. taking a live look now at the convention floor where "good morning america" willegin

their broadcast from the dnc. stay tuned. that's coming up at 7:00 a.m. former philadelphia police commissioner charles ramsey will step into the political spotlight. he's let set to speak on police issues on behalf of the then and women in blue. yesterday mothers of the movement took turns speaking about their anguish to losing their children to violence. katherine scott is live on the convention floor with details on that. katherine. >> reporter: matt these mothers stood together on that stage last night hoping that their stories, their words would help promote change tolerance and peace. >> the mothers of the movement took center stage at the democratic national convention last night. here they say to give their children voices who can no longer speak for themselves. >> hillary clinton isn't afraid to say that black lives matter. >> reporter: these women came together grieving for the deaths of their sons and daughters. among them, sandra bland, trayvon martin and michael brown. they're voting for hillary

down slight. for the commuter forecast in philadelphia probably try, 77 degrees by 7 o'clock with those showers looking like they want to stay all down south in south jersey and delaware. 10 o'clock 81 degrees, 88 by noon. this afternoon we'll continue the heat wave but just barely. we'll get a high of 91 about 3 o'clock. humidity remains on the lower and manageable side in philadelphia but the farther south you go in through south jersey and delaware the more humid it will feel today. and tam, there could be a you believe can of more pop-up showers and thunderstorms in south jersey and delaware. >> good to know. thank you david. new this morning delaware state police arrested two suspects involved in recent paintball shooting in there wilmington area. cameron ward and robbed russo were taken into custody on saturday during a routine traffic stop on namaans road. the two 18-year-olds now face a number of charges for shooting paintballs at people buildings and vehicles over the past three weeks. in philadelphia police also made an arrest in a deadly shooting near penn's landing bar. police say xavier braswell and the 24-year-old victim got into a fight at cavanaugh's

first first man gets personal about their relationship. our reports from the dnc begin in moments. >> matt, thank you so much. also in the news breaking he details on fence jumpers arrested outside the convention. >> first up let's go out to dave murphy find out just how warm it will be today and karen rogers has the news you need when it comes to traffic. good morning. >> feeling pretty good out here right now on the terrace. we have cloud cover blocking out the sun which helps actually make it feel a little more comfortable and humidity in philadelphia isn't too bad more humid down south though and radar shows we have also have sprinkles and showers passing through glassboro and points south down to millville a little bit of trailing stuff back in newark delaware and salem. and that's going to be an issue for the next couple hours down south of philadelphia. then out to the west there are additional showers and we'll keep watching for those. most of these will probably pass through south of philadelphia a shower or a thunderstorm possible off and on through the day. 77 degrees and dry in philadelphia right now, mainly cloudy. up in allentown, 68. a little clearer up to the

north and down in millville 77 degrees currently and more clouds the farther south you go. also check out dewpoints. there's a real difference across the region. in philadelphia dewpoint of 65 just moderate humidity. anything between 60 and 65 not too bad. but when you get up over 70 it starts feeling tropical and we still have heavy humidity down in millville all the way down to the shore and a good portion of south jersey and delaware covered by that. it's going to be hot again today with a high of 91 at 3 o'clock but humidity in philadelphia should remain manageable and it will be heat wave number six but we've had worse days in this heat wave than dam looks like another hot one tomorrow, more humid, too and perhaps some thunderstorms before of the heat wave arrives karen. i'll have details on all of that coming up. >> all right, dave. we are already seeing delays on i-95. you can see how heavy this southbound traffic is at this point from bridge street to approaching the vine and that's because of the police checkpoints there not allowing any vehicles over 5 tons to continue further south on i-95. this is the other end of the delay, the check on i-95 northbound approaching the

platt bridge where the check point is up ahead towards the platt bridge. again, not allowing those 5-ton vehicles ahead. so look you're already jammed on i-95 northbound from bartram avenue to platt bridge. so feeling the effects of the dnc with those police checkpoints. now we're looking live at the schuylkill expressway. no big problem just yet. this is your westbound traffic there. we're looking live at university avenue and that's your traffic heading towards the vine street expressway. and you want to expect extra traffic on the schuylkill and the vine because of the restrictions on i-95. now here's a look at 422. a little building volume eastbound coming in from pottstown or limerick. no big delay yet. hopping one more time into new jersey, we've been talking about showers in new jersey but at this .42 looking pretty good. that's northbound traffic coming from turnersville or deptford with no delay. now let's head over to matt o'donnell at the dnc. matt. >> thanks so much karen. philadelphia the nation's birthplace played host to another historic moment. it happened right here at the wells fargo center last night as the democratic party officially nominated a woman. hillary clinton to run for

president. >> ♪ >> and i can't believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet. >> hillary clinton delivered a live video message from new york pumping up the crowd and even bringing some to tears. she thanked the delegates for all their support hadn't a special message for all of the little girls who were watching at home. >> her husband former president bill clinton played the part of political spouse and touted his wife's more than 40 years of public service calling it a labor of love that will benefit everyone. >> some people say, well, we need a change. she's been around a long time. she sure has. and she sure has been worth every single year she's put into making people's lives better. [cheers and applause] >> the former president added his wife gained praise from both republicans and democrats

during ler tenure as the r from new york and secretary of state. not everyone at the convention was happy the moment hillary clinton became the official nominee. plus some people tried to jump a security fence at the arena. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes joins us live with that part of the story. jeanette. >> reporter: good morning, matt. yesterday was really like a drama field day. a lot going on of course inside of the wells fargo center but also outside there was a spontaneous demonstration and several people arrested for trying to jump a fence. take a listen or watch rather this video that we were able to get of those fence jumpers. we know that several were arrested but first i want to get to the protests. infuriated delegates walked out when bernie made his announcement to switch his delegates to clinton. sports swarmed a media tent chanting the world is watching. others had their mouths taped shut and some sang this land is your land. now, that's just one of the main protests in support of bernie sanders that we've seen around the city of

philadelphia. there have been at least two or three of them per day and it's really attracted the most people out of all the demonstrations we've seen throughout the week. other organizations have also taken to the streets of philadelphia all of them really trying to take advantage of the spotlight the dnc has brought to the city. take a listen. >> it was good that deb he bee wasserman schultz stepped down. that was a good positive first step but they need to be more forward, more open, more transparent. >> i thought you a fighting a fair fight in the field and it wasn't. >> reporter: and yesterday was really just a busy day for authorities here trying to keep everything secure. we understand that around 8:30 in the evening four people tried to jump a fence and get in a secret service secure zone they were not able to get inside of wells fargo but they were arrested and taken to a nearby detention center. they are set to be before a judge today in just a couple of hours.

hour ago in new castle county delaware. now it's shifted over towardsthe 55, the atlantic city expressway starting to get wet in a couple of spots and this is really just light shower activity. every now and then it gets a little moderate. not the kind of rain that's going to put ponding and puddling on the roads but it might slow you down a little bit with that slightly wet road condition. later today there's a chance of additional showers and even a pop-up thunderstorm mainly in the southern areas. as we take a look outside we have cloudy skies with a few breaks now over the ben franklin bridge and generally speaking the farther north you go through the region right now, the more sun and clearing that you're starting to see, the farther south, the more clouds and the farther south the more humid it is, too. in philadelphia it actually doesn't feel that bad. temperature 77 degrees. your dewpoint at 65 which is somewhat noticeable humidity. anything over 60 on the dewpoint scale does indicate humidity but you got to go up to 70 before you get oppressive humidity and we have to go pretty far south to get that south of the southern -- south jersey and delaware that's where it's

stickier condition right now. winds out of the northeast at 5 miles per hour. as we take a look at future tracker as we go through the morning and into the afternoon, there is that chance of an off and on shower or thunderstorm. this latest model run positions most of this down to the south of philadelphia. does look like by 3:30 there's a bit more of that and then by 5:30 or 6:00 we're probably still looking at at least some spotty showers and thunderstorms. now this isn't going to be all day but if you're in the pool or on the beach if you hear thunder and see the skies going gray head in off the beach or get out of the pool. looks like about 7 o'clock it's all over. the other part of the story is the continuation of the heat wave. it's not going to be as easily attained today. the numbers will be lower but it does look like we'll get into the 90's for a few hours this afternoon. by noon 88. by 3 o'clock 91. that's your high today. and then 85 by 5 o'clock. also a you get down into south jersey and delaware it's more humid today but up in philadelphia and points north not so humid as it's been the last several days. 91 is the high in philadelphia, 91 in

wilmington, 92 in allentown, 93 today in reading and 91 in trenton. looks like we're in the 80's over most of south jersey with the thicker cloud cover and occasional rain. 84 on the beach in cape may. and the closeup view down the shore shows a lot of mid 80's all the way down to cape may and through bethany beach. u.v. index running high especially the farther north you go along the coast where you're liable to see a little more sun. your exclusive seven day in philadelphia a high today of 91, some sun, more sun to the north, less to the south and it will be hot and more humid in southern areas where that shower or thunderstorm chance exists today. then thursday hot and more humid everywhere. 93 is the high. there's a chance of a strong thunderstorm in the evening or later at night and then friday finally we break the heat wave, we get down into the mid 80's. it will still be warm and muggy with a spotty shower or thunderstorm but at least that higher high in the 90's will be over. and for the cominnd a little humid, mid 80's, a

>> let's check in now with karen rogers. there's some closures around town, some other issues. what does it look like. >> we've had challenges navigating around issues with the dnc on the road. looking live, i-95 at the exit for the platt bridge and the schuylkill. you can see police here, the cones are set up restricting traffic because we can't have anybody over 5 tons, a vehicle over 5 tons travel on i-95 and this is causing delays. you can see that right now and you see that northbound delay from bartram avenue to the platt bridge on i-95. you want to expect these delays. you also want to expect that you're going have complete closures of i-95 at times because today we're going to see the motorcades com through for the president and vice president. watch for those restrictions. looking at delays on i-95 southbound approaching that checkpoint near the vine. you're traveling about 14, 11 miles an hour from the betsy ross bridge to girard so pretty sizable delays there as well. live on the vine street expressway here near eighth street, police check point up ahead. not really seeing a big delay
