columbus road. let's stay over on old york road or even 295 southbound instead of 130 southbound and of course we'll keep you posted. crossing the river this is 95 southbound. some building volume approaching the work zone at cottman avenue. same farther south as you approach the work zone at girard. in kressonville word of a downed he tree. avoid wyoming at castor avenue but no big issues on route one the roosevelt boulevard. overconstruction there is gone. westbound pennsylvania turnpike past norristown right and center lanes are blocked but speeds look okay at this point. and then farther west they've moved that construction to the shoulder past malvern. we also had a motorcycle accident this morning on the eastbound side of the turnpike approaching downingtown. that, too, has been pushed off to the side so speeds are climbing on the eastbound side on this tuesday morning. matt. >> thanks, matt. two women were shot in camden. were sun in grave condition.
the gunfire went off along the 800 block of south zig sixth street at 9 o'clock last night. police officers from camden county rushed the two women to cooper university hospital. investigators have not yet said who shot the women or why. and authorities are trying to determine if street racing is to blame for a crash that killed a three-year-old girl. it happened last night at second and york streets in the city's kensington neighborhood. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live at the accident investigation division with the latest. annie. >> reporter: and matt, police believe that two vehicles were racing each other. one of those vehicles crashed into the car with an innocent family inside killing a young girl. well, they have a 17-year-old driver that they believe was one of the people that was street racing but they're still looking for the other driver and vehicle that they say fled the scene. chopper6 hd over second and west york just after 7:00 monday night. a violent crash ejected a three-year-old girl from the back passenger window of that crushed blue honda. medics at a fire station
located right at the scene arrived in seconds. but the toddler died at the hospital. >> and two cars were coming right and they hit this car and i walked down the street i saw them lift the baby out. >> reporter: so far police believe the girl's mother and grandmother were heading west on york when they were hit. the impact forced the honda to rip out a hydrant as it jumped the curb. >> it appears that the striking vehicle that was going south on second street being operated by the 17-year-old male may have been driving at a high rate of speed. some witnesses are saying that that 17-year-old driver was actually racing another vehicle. >> reporter: and police do have that 17-year-old driver in custody. he was sent to the hospital with minor injuries. he's also being tested to see whether or not alcohol or drugs were a factor. they're still looking, though, for that other vehicle and that driver. they say it may have -- that vehicle may have front or side end damage because it knocked over a light pole during there
accidenduring thataccident ha a. besides the young girl that was killed her grandmother was in the car. guessing told that she was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. her mother is okay. for now reporting live outside of the accident investigation division in north philadelphia, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." back to you, tam. >> annie, thank you for that. two people were killed in this violent crash along route 70 in pemberton township new jersey. a car went off the road right into that tree and you can see it just split into pieces. there's still no final word on what led to this ugly deadly wreck. >> ♪ >> happening today, opening statements are set to begin in the case of an army specialist charged with killing his girlfriend's mother in lehigh county. barns is accused of stabbing cheryl silvonak last eight. her daughter jamie was 14 at the time. she already pleaded guilty to helping plan the killing and was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison.
as part of her plea jamie is expected to testify against her former boyfriend. it is 6:06 and the criminal justice center is back opened in philadelphia but those two elevators involved in last week's crash will remain out of service indefinitely. a sheriff's sergeant was critically injured in the freak asked. we've learned sergeant paul owens is paralyzed from the waste down. he's being kept in a medically induced coma. investigators spent the weekend testing the elevators but 33 haven't figured out why one of them went haywire flying up into the ceiling. council members in cherry hill new jersey voted to rezone 400 acres continue west side for a gases station. this affects the garden state park which was originally planned to be a town center. there's no word yet on how last night's vote is going to affect that planned development. dozens of community members spoke out against rezoning. >> delta airlines ready to
make amend for the delays passengers saw this time yesterday and which are continuing into this morning. maribel aber tells us what they're offering live at the nasdaq in times square. hi, maribel. >.>> reporter: hi, matt. thousands of delta flyers were stranded monday by a power outage in the company's hometown of atlanta. delta will issue refunds to passengers whose flights are canceled or significantly delayed and flyers who rebook won't be charged a change fee. delta did not say how it would define significant delay but a spokesperson said passengers should reach out to reservations for more information. stocks closed monday after a strong start to the day. futures are pointing to a higher open. investors keeping an eye on retail sales data released later this week. total number of billionaires hit a record high last year but even billionaires have a gender problem. for every female billionaire there are 8.4 male billionaires according to we think axis 2015 billionaire census. 148 new members joined the

to the side so the traffic is still zooming as you head westbound. just some building volume along i-76 the schuylkill. now on i-76 the pennsylvania turnpike, westbound construction near downingtown all cleared out of the way so cross that off the list. but there was also a motorcycle crash on the eastbound side approaching downingtown. they've got 10 that pushed off to the side. so, speeds are back up into the mid 60's now. not a big track problem as you come away from morgantown. farther east one of our friends using the waze app talking about foggy conditions and we're seeing a few people talking about fog this morning as you travel through the fort washington area on out toward bensalem along the turnpike eastbound. let's cross into new jersey because we have some big issues. if you're headed in that direction the 95 rest area in lower makefield bucks county is closing starting at 7:00 this morning. going to be closed all day today. so if you normally stop there don't count on being able to do that. in burlington township still have that crash involving a pedestrian that's blocking the southbound lanes of 130.
i would stick with old york road or 295 to get around that. and don't forget construction started not too far off yesterday closing ox meade road. burlington jacksonville road your alternate there. matt. >> thank you, matt. this is new on "action news." three children fell a ferris wheel at a county fair in tennessee. witnesses say the basket they were in that tipped over spilling the children out like water. they fell more than 30 feet. the children were rushed to the hospital where greenville police say they are now alert and talking. officials plan to release more information later this morning. >> firefighters in southern california are racing to keep a growing wildfire away from their homes. the so-called pilot fire in the san bernadino national forest is only 6 percent contained. mandatory evacuations are under way and. residents near silver wood lake are packed up and ready to go at a moment's notice. 16 helicopters are dumping water on this hard to reach area. the blaze broke out sunday afternoon. it's already charred nearly 10

police are currently looking for a third vehicle that may have been involved and that 17-year-old driver is now hospitalized. a philadelphia postal worker helped police collect a major piece of evidence in a deadly shooting. the worker found a gun in a mailbox. police believe it was used in the murder in the summerdale neighborhood. police say two men were arguing at the corner of summerdale avenue and ellicott street when one pulled out a gun. the 45-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. it all unfolded right in front of a store and was caught on surveillance cameras. police believe they have video of the killer. >> now to an "action news" exclusive. a berks county man is talking about a murder-suicide that left five members of his family dead. mark and megan short and their three children were all found shot and killed in their sinking spring home over the weekend. police are calling this a case of domestic violence. mark short's father michael says megan had threatened to leave his son and take the couple's three children with her. in an off camera interview he he told "action news" he looks
at himself like he has failed. the tragedy has rattled the small community. >> i didn't know them at all. but i just feel for the family, you know. i just -- it's just horrible story. >> investigators say they are not he releasing any new information until an autopsy is done on mark short. >> 6:36. republican vice presidential candidate mike pence is scheduled to make two campaign stops in pennsylvania today. donald trump's running mate will hold a town hall meeting in lancaster and then head to pittsburgh. pence's visit comes one week after trump visited harrisburg. the gop nominee who rehe leased his plan of tax cuts yesterday will be stumping in wilmington north carolina today. democrat hillary clinton is quick to criticize trump's economic plan saying it provides little relief to most americans. she was campaigning in florida where she described her policies as the best suited to help small businesses flourish. clinton will release more details about her economic

new crash in brookhaven along edgemont avenue by wonderful chinese and painted flesh tattoos neither which i've visited but maybe i'll have to. in upper chichester we have railroad crossing work going on all week so namaans creek road shut down yesterday. it's staying closed all week. chichester avenue or namaans road across the state line would be options. there's also railroad crossing work all week this week in winslow township that is shutting down egg harbor road so 30 or 73 are shum alternates around that. elsewhere in new jersey in burlington township we he still have this accident involving a pedestrian that's blocking off the southbound lanes of 130 at columbus road there by neptune playground. i would stay over on old york proceed or even 295 instead of the southbound lanes of 130. kind of a mess there in burlington this morning. and in newark, new construction starts in just about 15 minutes welsh track road going to close through early september for some sewer work. stick with chestnut hill road
or old baltimore pike as alternates for the next few weeks. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. new on "action news," oregon police shot a man after they say he fired at an officer and took a woman hostage at a restaurant. authorities say an officer first tried to stop the man for a traffic violation. when a seconds officer approached the man the suspect fired at the officer hitting this bulletproof vest. the suspect then ran into a restaurant taking a woman hostage. a s.w.a.t. team stormed in firing at the man. the suspect was taken to the hospital. the hostage was not injured. and there's tension between police in parts of the community in harrisburg over a deadly police-involved shooting. protestors took to the street yesterday insisting justice is owed to 20-year-old earl pinkney. authorities say ping flee was holding a knife at his mother's throat on sunday night and that he ignored repeated requests to put that knife down. before an officer finally fired a single fatal shot. the officer who fired the shot is currently on leave. his name is not being released at this time. >> a young woman from new york city who was out for a jog has
been found murdered for the second time in a week. 27-year-old vanessa marcotte's body was discovered sunday night a half mile from her mom's home in princeton massachusetts. the google account manager lived in new york city and was visiting family for the weekend. she was reported missing when she he didn't return from the run. police say she was found naked with burns on her head, hands and feet. >> must stress that we do not know if this was a random act. >> marcotte's murder comes less than a week after karina vetrano was killed during a jog in queens new york. the circumstances are eerily similar though beyond that there is no link to the other crime. police do not have a suspect in either case. >> an arkansas woman says hospital staff allowed another patient to walk off with her newborn baby while she was sleeping. laurie snyder says she woke up and found her child with another patient in another room. and that's where several nurses were gathered around playing with the child. snyder as you can see he there
