memories. >> looking out for storms today and maybe a heat wave. let's turn to karen rogers in for david and matt pelman. >> the national weather service posted this excessive heat watch that goes into effect tomorrow. it's going to be hot and humid today. not just today, the next five days, the difference is we have oppressive humidity. the dewpoints over 70 degrees already and they're not coming down until monday. so, this is a really big change. let's take a look at these numbers right now. 77 in allentown, 77 in that reading, 77 in philadelphia, popular number. millville and cape may, 76 in trenton and wilmington. so, let's look at satellite6 and action radar. lots of clouds to start us off. you can see those showers up to the north and west. the trouble is with the high humidity we have a weak disturbance coming through and we could see a shower or thunderstorm at any point today. so, watching for that from any point this morning on through to tonight as we look at this radar imagery match right now, nothing is popping up but that

could change pretty quickly so just be prepared for that. it's hot and humid. now, yesterday our high was 89. today is kind of similar 90 degrees. the difference is the humidity is just oppressive all dane we've got that chance for spotty storms i'll show you futurfuture tracker6 in a few minute matt. >> all right karen. are you ready for construction? i've got plenty for you. here on 95, southbound side approaching broad street they're doing lighting work. luck no delay. 95 in bucks county the rest area in lower makefield township is closed for utility work until 7:00 this morning so if you're headed out early you won't be able to use that rest area along 95 in lower makefield. vine street expressway was closed as well overnight for construction. remains closed at this hour between the schuylkill and broad street but should reopen in the next half hour and there goes one westbound car so then the process apparently of getting the westbound side reopened. overnight paving work in radnor township along godfrey

road. i would avoid it until 6 o'clock this morning. stick with newtown road or darby paoli road. that's each night this week. overnight construction on the burlington bristol bridge wrapped up so you're good to go there. camden county overnight work on the ramp from 295 northbound to the black horse pike northbound. that ramp is blocked for the next half hour on this wednesday morning. matt and tam. >> thank you, matt. a six-year-old girl is among the latest casualties in philadelphia gun violence. two men unloaded more than 20 bullets in west oak lane. one struck the girl's left arm. "action news" reporter annie mccormick is live at saint christopher's hospital for children where doctors are trying to save her. annie. >> reporter: matt, that's right, she's only six years old and she was just playing in front of her home when she was hit by that stray gunfire. according to police they say that she is here at saint christopher's hospital in critical condition. they say that that bullet hit her underneath her left armpit. take a look at this video. this is video, "action news" was there as the young victim

was transferred to saint christopher's hospital for children from einstein hospital where medics initially took her and that's where doctors were able to stabilize her. well a barrage of gunfire broke out around 7:00 p.m. in the 6300 block of north wood stock in west oak lane. the six-year-old was playing outside of her home when she was hit under her arm. investigators believe at least 21 bullets were fired from two weapons at a nearby intersection. "action news" spoke with police and also a neighbor who ran to help the little girl who he saw laying in a pool of blood. >> we found 21 spent shell casings and they are of two separate caliber which means at least two weapons were used. >> we walked down here and sought little girl on the ground bleeding and i offered the person my rag so they could apply pressure stop the

bleeding and that's when the officers pulled up. >> reporter: and neighbors also saying there were other children on the block at the time of the shooting. again, she is in critical condition at this hour. also, as for a description it's only a vague one. they can only say they're looking for a shooter wearing a white t-shirt. reporting live in hunting park annie mccormick channel6 "action news." matt back to you. >> thank you very much annie. new this morning a man was shot twice not far from where that little girl was hit by the stray bullet. he was walking down the 2000 block p of chelten avenue in west oak lane this morning and while wounded the managed to run nearby to get help from police. the victim is hospitalized in stable condition. no arrests yet. and police say this shooting does not appear to be linked to the shooting that of little girl. >> donald trump has put himself in the middle of yet another controversy over something he said. this time it's over remarks that he made that some see as encouraging gun violence against hillary clinton.

abc's maggie rulli has more on the comments that trump made and who is upset about it and who is backing up trump. >> reporter: what began as donald trump attacking rival hillary clinton about the second amendment. >> hillary wants to abolish essentially abolish the second amendment. by the way, if he she gets to pick -- >> reporter: quickly turned. >> if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. although the second amendment people, maybe there is, i don't know. >> reporter: clinton's campaign immediately pounced tweeting a person seeking to be president of the united states should not suggest violence in any way. tim kaine says it's comments like these that make trump unfit for the oval office. >> sort of a complete tempermental misfit with the character that's required to do the job. >> reporter: trump's campaign is not walking anything back. the candidate telling fox news that he wasn't talking about violence but was trying to

rally support. >> what it is is there's a tremendous power behind the second amendment. it's a political power and there are few things so powerful i'm have to say in terms of politics. >> reporter: the nra is defending his comments and like trump also warns of a clinton supreme court nominee. donald trump is right. if hillary clinton gets to pick her anti-second amendment supreme court judges there's nothing we can do. clinton says she supports some new restrictions on gun ownership but does not want to overturn the seconds amendment. it's a another trump controversy. new polls show clinton up in several key swing states with a slight lead in ohio and a significant lead in pennsylvania. maggie rulli abc news, washington. >> and "gma" will be next up after us at 7:00 a.m. they'll have much more on this new firestorm on the campaign trail. >> perjury trial of pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane resumes this

morning. prosecutors say kane directed staffers to leak confidential documents as revenge on former chief deputy attorney general frank fina. during her 2012 campaign kane criticized the attorney general's office in the child sexual abuse case by san did you say he key. when kane became ag fina moved to the philadelphia district attorney's office. she believes he was behind newspaper report that faulted her for not champing anyone in a political bribery scheme. prosecutors say kane later leaked confidential documents about a fina led case. that prompted the charges she now faces. >> new this morning, septa workers were quick to act when they saw a fellow employee pass out. the incident happened at the septa trolley stop atwood lawn and bartram avenues yesterday morning. collingdale police officers and paramedics arrived the find three septa workers performing cpr on john thompson. >> the right place at the right time happened to know what was going on. i didn't do anything myself.

it was definitely one great big group effort. >> the collingdale police chief says the septa workers likely saved thompson's life. the thompson family says he suffered a heart attack and he's currently in critical but stable condition. >> channel6 viewers are fondly remembering captain noah who was a staple of our weekend morning program. w. carter merbreier passed away yesterday at the age of 90. his show he from 1967 to 1994 was a destination for stars including, did you know this, elvis presley. >> it's captain noah and his magical arc. all aboard! >> ♪ >> the show was recorded at the 6abc studios and was such a hit that it went syndicated in 20 markets. captain noah's adoring wife patricia died in 2011. katherine scott will have a report on captain noah's legacy in the next half hour.

>> al wildfire in california has grown and still threader tense thousands of homes. wind pushed the flames which are being called the pilot fire towards the desert. the inferno has scorched almost 13 square miles. that's about 8,000 acres. mandatory evacuations remain in place. a little bit of hope. lower temperatures dipped into the low 60's. >> around here lots going on in the accuweather forecast. >> yes and i bring some good news. i'm taking you on a tropical vacation without the vacation. it's going to feel like you're in the tropics. let's look right now at storm tracker6 live double scan and we're dry at this moment. but we could see a shower or thunderstorm popping up at any point today so watching for. that let's go on outside right now checking out that ben franklin bridge. we have lots of clouds up above. no precipitation just yet but we have a weak disturbance

moving through and kind of a soupy atmosphere. at any point we'll see that change. the temperature is already 77 degrees. the dewpoint oppressive even at this hour, 72. the pressure is holding steady. the winds are out of the south-southwest pretty light pumping up the warm and humid air mass. the ocean temperature 80 degrees. nice and warm. let's take a look at satellite6 and action radar. we see how the clouds have moved in overnight. we're starting off with mostly cloudy skies. we're going see some sunshine mixing with the clouds later and you could almost see the rip of heat. we've got a weak disturbance moving through bringing some showers and thunderstorms that are clustered right now to our north and west. but you can see in this unstable atmosphere anything could pop at any point today and that's what we're watching so i want to he show you future tracker6. this is model picking up at 10 o'clock in the morning a couple scattered showers or a thunderstorm here or there. a few more around lunchtime. it's really hard to pinpoint with this disturbance just kind of rolling through in this humid atmosphere exactly when this is going to happen so you want to be prepared for this at any point.

i think you get that idea looking at this model at 3:30 in the afternoon some showers or thunderstorms, not in every spot but over the next five days each day we're going to see a chance for this happening but really more so today as that disturbance coming through. so, let's take a look at what you can expect. it's hot, it's humid. now yesterday's high was 89. today 90 so temperature profile is similar but the difference is the humidity. it's going to feel much hotter today. also that chance for a spotty storm at any point at a with that disturbance coming through and the winds have switched to the southwest around this bermuda high so the heat index between 95 and 105. not today. the next five days. we're in a steam bath here. we've got weak disturbances moving through. seeing one coming through and the early part of this day but each day we're going get that chance for a storm threat and the dewpoints over 70 degrees. it's just going to feel oppressive in addition to the high temperature. so let's take a look at this exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. it's hot and it's humid today, 90 degrees for your high temperature. with a thunderstorm at any

just to remind you. thank you karen. a maryland hospital is temporarily shutting down its neonatal intensive care unit. 3n icu babies tested positive for a deadly bacteria. officials are trying to determine if the bacteria is to blame for deaths. nine babies have been transferred out of the hospital. a federal appeals court ruled new jersey cannot enforce a 2014 law allowing sports betting. the court founder law violated professional and amateur sports pro he text act which forbids state authorized sports gambling. governor christie and supporters in the legislature have been trying to legalize sports gambling to help the state's struggling casinos and sports racing industries. >> don henle headlined musikfest in bethlehem.

>> good morning to you. it is wednesday morning. hump day. we're looking live here in delco at macdade boulevard near the blue route 476. overnight paving work was going on here in the westbound lanes but as you can see the crews are here no longer so you're good to go along macdade boulevard. also good to go now on the westbound side of the vine street expressway headed towards the schuylkill expressway eastbound does remain blocked but should be opened within the next 10 minutes so that's some good news on the westbound side. eastbound side we're still waiting on. and not such good news in montgomery township this morning. there's a crash along heart wood drive at knollwood drive in the neighborhood. newark delaware new construction began yesterday shutting down welsh track word. there's an accident also in that area this morning. bottom line stick with chestnut hill road or old

[gunfire] >> new this morning police in louisville kentucky release body camera footage avenue deadly shooting of a black man by white officers. darnell wicker was killed on monday when police responded to a domestic disturbance. his girlfriend says the first responding officer reacted calmly but she says two more officers rushed past with guns drawn order wicker to trop the knife and immediately opened fire. two officers are on administrative leave. the third remains on regular duty because authorities determine he did not fire his weapon. >> new on "action news" a pan tea thief is on the loose in indianapolis. surveillance video shows the man swiping hundreds of women's under garments from a shopping paul. the man scoops out the women's underwear display at the gap and grabs pant panties by the handful.
