here is what's happening. the search is on for the driver who struck a woman and took off. a message of hope spotted from the air. how this giant s.o.s. saved two sailors. a bucks county student headed to college for a brave new beginning. first, breaking news where a man is dead and another injured in a double shooting. it happened about 9:30 on the 1700 block. investigators say a 25-year-old man was shot in the chest and rushed to temple university hospital where he was pronounced dead. a 45-year-old man was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital. no word on his condition and no arrests have been made. investigators are searching for the cause of a house fire that ended with the death of a woman. the victim's brother is a firefighter across the river in wilmington. he and the victim's son spoke with trish hartman at the scene.

[ inaudible ] >> reporter: 26-year-old ramir hoirld was embraced by friends and family outside the burned home in se lem. his mother identified as tasha roots died in the blaze. ramir was staying with a family member when the fire started. his mom was an independent woman who taught them to work hard. >> my mom up there. >> reporter: her older brother is a 30-year firefighter with the city of wilmington. >> the worst fear, pull up and it's a family member. so, i know what the fire will do. >> reporter: investigators with the new jersey state fire marshall's office went through the home looking for a cause. relatives gather remembering a woman who always put her two sons first. >> whatever it takes to get the

job done for family, she was there. >> reporter: her son will stay with family members. her younger son started his freshman year of college in north carolina last weekend. he is back in town to be with the family. trish hartman, channel 6 "action news." in chester county, two people escaped injury when a fire broke out in their home in east brandy wine township. inside the home, a blaze went two alarms before firefighters were able to gain the upper hand. the people who lived there were able to escape, but the home was destroyed. police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian early this morning. the victim was crossing black course pipe near fox place about 1:30 this morning when it happened. investigators say two vehicles may have been involved. police are working to identify the victim and i'm getting a good description of the vehicles

involved. a man in camden was shot to death in front of a group of children. police are asking for you to help. here is rick williams with a crime fighters report. ♪ >> reporter: detectives say the events of friday, april 15 are some of the most brazen they have ever seen. >> particularly heinous act. >> reporter: the 34-year-old was standing at the corner of 8th and sheldon. >> it took place in the broad daylight. dozens of witnesses and many, many young children. >> reporter: detectives say it was a miracle no one else was injured. >> easily could have been several more teem, victims. >> reporter: they are administering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

skills to the test. they took part in a variety of field trials. they knave gaited obstacle courses. >> it was a very, very special day as a community honored its police officers for hard work and dedication. it was held at the jubilee evangelistic community church. >> a chance to enjoy a giant slide, bounce house and pony rides. in light of recent violence, they wanted to have everyone have a day to enjoy and have some fun. after 62 years of marriage, an elderly couple is forced to live apart. their family is fighting to get them back together. for the last eight months, they have been living in separate nursing homes in canada because there aren't enough government subsidized beds. the couple's granddaughter posted this picture of the couple wiping away tears.

the humidity certainly isn't bad in spots. we are picking up moisture at the coast. you have dew point numbers slightly higher inland locations. right now, if philadelphia, after a high today of 93, we are at 75. the dew point at 64. a touch more humid. earlier today, dew points in the upper 50s. right now, 64. we have seen worse for the summer season. the pressure 32.22 is on the rise. the ocean temperature at 74. north and west, 73. fleetwood, 71. chester 70. up north, newhall, 76. 68 degrees for the beach. the coast and city, 75 not bad at the boardwalk. here is satellite 6 along with action radar. you can see it is dry across the region. a ridge of high pressure to the

caring. it was a busy day for the first year students at the university of delaware as they moved into their dorms. action cam on the scene in newark as they unloaded cars and rental trucks and carries their belongings into the halls. moms, dads, friends and fellow classmates helped to make the move smooth. more than 100 kids from philadelphia got free backpacks and school supplies from big name boxers. bernard hopkin and jerome conquest helped to hand out supplies at joe hand boxing gym. there were plenty of smiles as the elementary kids were given this head start before classes begin. an nba star is helping kids and adults in delaware county protection their vision. they teamed up with vsp vision care. today, in evan's hometown of chester, people were able to get
