>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning, it's 4:30 a.m. wednesday october 5th. >> we're following breaking news here on "action news." flames engulf nome philadelphia's bustleton section killing two people. we are live at the scene of the blaze. >> the vice presidential candidates have faced off defending their running mates. we'll have a full report with highlights from their only debate. >> and hurricane matthew is churning through the caribbean. we have new information on the track of its form and its possible um packet on our area. >> let's go over to meteorologist, david murphy. he's watching that and karen rogers is watching your roads. good morning. >> let's start out with this morning and right now we have

some low lying cloud cover. there has been some talk of fog but i have been checking visibilities and were he don't have any indication of that yet. look for some potential low clouds in some neighborhoods. we should transition to partly sunny skies as the day goes on. as we take a look at temperatures still cool out there this morning, 58 degrees in philadelphia. 57 in allentown, 55 in trenton, 60 in wilmington and 60 degrees currently in cape may. winds on the light side. as we roll through the day we are expecting to kick those morning clouds out and eventually transition to partly sunny skies. it will be chilly in the morning, 57 by 7 o'clock, 60 degrees by 10 o'clock and by noon still just 66 but this afternoon we're going for a pleasant high of 71 degrees partly sunny and then still 70 by 6 o'clock. matthew is still churning and doing havoc. pretty soon in the bahamas and then pushing up towards the southeastern united states after that but karen the new model thirty one started coming in late yesterday are suggesting this storm might get bottled up to our south and have very little if any

impact on us. i'll have the latest track on matthew in a couple minutes. >> we were looking at the spaghetti plots and saying we should have spaghetti. as david mentioned the fog not that big avenue deal. no big visibility impact right now. this is 42 northbound right here at creek road moving okay. we see a truck off to the side right there with construction. the ramp from 42 northbound to 295 northbound he remains blocked for just a little bit longer. you usually clear about 5:00 a.m. maybe another half hour. live on 95 it's a dark ride in. southbound traffic moving okay with moving okay with light volume. it's particularly dark. be careful as you're riding in. we've got a roving work crew alsoly in the right lane that should be cleared pretty soon but with no overhead lights that could be run. vine street expressway remains blocked between the schuylkill and broad street with construction. also expected to clear by 5:00

a.m. tam. >> thank you karen. flames engulf home in philadelphia's bustleton section overnight. firefighters took on the plays but they were not able to revive two people found inside the home. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live on the 9000 block of bride dell road with more. good morning, katherineism good morning, tam, that's right, two people died in this fire. so far they have not been identified and you can see there's a lot of damage to this home. if you take a look right now you can see the windows have been knocked out. there's holes in the roof from where the flames tore through. authorities are still on the scene at this hour. these flames were fierce and they moved quickly. the fire started shortly before midnight on the 9800 block of bride dell road in bustleton. firefighters called this an aggressive interior fire fight. 40 fire personnel and 11 apparatus were on the scene. it took 35 minutes to bring the fire under control. the fire burned the gas meter off the wall and there was a

minor gas leak and emergency evacuation but it's all plugged up now. firefighters took out two people from the home, one was found in a foyer, the other in the living room but neither survived. >> unfortunately the bustleton section of philadelphia suffered a tragedy today and companies bound to victims on the inside on the first floor. they brought them out and started cpr immediately. but i'm sad to announce that we lost both of them. >> reporter: and back here live you can see the extensive damage. one firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor injury. when firefighters arrived they did not hear smoke alarms but whether there were any working smoke detectors remains part of this investigation as is the calls of this if i remember live in bustleton katherine scott channel6 "action news." matt. >> thank you katherine. an armed robber held up three gas stations in camden county in less than 40 minutes. surveillance photos show the robbers dark colored jeep suv.

the string of robberies happened yesterday afternoon in pennsauken, in haddon township. no one was hurt. if you have seen that jeep, i know it's kind of a dark picture but if you've seen it, call police. >> and developing this morning, hurricane matthew is now set its sights on the bahamas after making happened fall in eastern cuba and hematoma the powerful storm left behind widespread damage and flooding in southwest haiti. at least five people have been killed there. forecasters say matthew will move across the bahamas tomorrow and is expected to be very near florida's atlantic coast by tomorrow evening. the governor of florida has declared a state of emergency and there have been long lines at gas stations and grocery stores across the miami area as people try to get ready for the storm's possible impact. the jersey shore is a potential targeted for some destructive weather if hurricane matthew does indeed barrel up the east coast. for now the track remains uncertain. more than 500 vendors will be in ocean city this weekend for the fall block party. many businesses bank on this

have to deal with the impact of hurricane matthew. we have a little bit better news for you this morning. >> let's get that news with dave murphy. >> let's start with this morning's forecast and then we'll get to matthew. storm tracker6 live double scan showing you a dry morning. there are low clouds around. let's take a look outside and see how things look out there. you can see a little bit of cloud cover behind the commodore barry bridge and there has been some concern about fog this morning but so far we're not really seeing much of that. temperatures are cool, too. 58 degrees. so you step outside a lot of you are going to see clouds initially and cool conditions. winds out of the northeast at 10 miles per hour. a little bit stronger than the last couple of mornings. satellite showing you the low cloud cover broken in some cases so some of you start out with clouds, some of you might get some early sunshine but as we go through the day we are expecting this cloud cover to break up and we should wind up with a pretty pleasant partly sunny afternoon. your temperatures are going to be similar to yesterday. 56 degrees by 8 o'clock.

60 by 10 o'clock. and then by noon, 66 but by 3 o'clock we will bounce up to 71 degrees for a high. again with partly sunny skies. little bit of a slight breeze. pretty nice overall. by 5 o'clock down to 70 and 6 o'clock in the upper 60. that's your 12-hour forecast. high temperatures this afternoon a lot of low 70's in the i-95 corridor up to reading and allentown. 69 degrees in millville and down the shore today mid 60's. and next couple of days warm up a little bit. look pretty good. but on to matthew. it's still a category three hurricane. it has fallen down a little bit in ranking because of the interaction with the land and the mountains that we had in cuba and also haiti. now as it pushes to the north through the bahamas it does look like it's going to be back up to category four strength. bahamas still looking at a lot of problems. through thursday morning it should be pushing through the northern bahamas. it's still a category three near the georgia coast. it now looks like the shift is back to the east a little bit

so that we may not even see a total landfall from this storm. it may just skirt the coast as a category two. south carolina, north carolina under the scenario get really battered straight through saturday evening but the change for us is that the latest indications are that the storm stays down to the south of us and scoots out to the sea far away from us. now, the cone of uncertainty still includes app direct hit along the jersey and delaware coast lines but the trend just since last night and now into this morning is to bring this farther away from us. there would still be impacts at the shore with coastal flooding and heavy surf that sort of thing but we may not even get much rain. if we got rain on saturday it would probable be from a cold front coming from the west. here again are the new spaghetti plot models. a lot of these have the storm getting hung up down to the south or the very least bounced out to sea away from us. this is much better news. still three plus days away though. it could change again so we still have to keep our eyes on it. we also have -- i'm sorry about the hurricane paul heading. this is tropical storm nicole

that formed yesterday. it's going have a problem pushing toward the east because of matthew but eventually it may push back up toward bermuda by monday of next week so we will keep our eyes on nicole for you as well. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast today we are looking at partly sunny skies and a high of 71. then thursday mostly sunny and nice, 75. friday partly sunny and pretty good 73. for the weekend mostly cloudy on saturday 70. there could eventually be some rain from a front coming through and then sunday breezy and cool, hoping that matthew stays south at this point and 67 degrees. in that scenario sunday would be not a bad day. then columbus day 66 degrees and mostly sunny on tuesday, 67. remember, any time we're not on the air you can get the latest information on the weather at i would still caution never one one -- every one to continue to watch this forecast closely and matthew's track changes closely. three plus days things can change but right now it's trending better for us.

>> david thank you. a warminster bucks county plan forty one a caribbean vacation with an unwanted stowaway and that led to a trip to the hospital. a scorpion crawled into the 22-year-old man's become pack while he was on the caribbean island of saint thomas the scorpion stung the man then disappeared somewhere in his bedroom and that is where the exterminators found it. >> started pulling everything apart and when we flipped his sheets it fell on the ground by the officer's foot and we captured it. >> scorpions are not deadly the the sting feels about the same as that of a bee. the warminster man is expected to be okay. >> new this morning, a drive by shooting seriously injured two young children cleveland ohio. police say two men in a dark colored vehicle drove past a home late last night and opened fire. the children were inside the home. investigators say the three-year-old was shot in the face and a nine-year-old was shot in the back. thatter in serious and critical condition. police in that cleveland are still trying to track down the

suspects. also new the fbi is looking for this man wanted for committing corp rate espionage in houston texas. surveillance video shows the man walking through a fortune 500 company empty handed and leaving hours with two bags full of property. the theft happened in june and december of 2015. the company is in the oil and gas sector and asked the fbi not to identify it for security reasons. there is a $5,000 reward for information in this case that leads to an arrest. >> this drone here helped crews find a missing boy in wisconsin. three-year-old dyton legalbo disappeared a cornfield on saturday. police called a drone company called unmanned systems inc. to provide an eye in the sky and used it to direct the hurricane sandy of volunteers in the search through all that corn. 20 hours later searchers found the boy safe. >> there's no way we could afford a helicopter or an airplane for that matter but, yeah, these would be the next

>> ♪ >> welcome back. we're looking live at the platt bridge this morning. we've been watching for some fog and really not seeing any big problem with that at all. roads are looking pretty good. this is conshohocken. the blue route approaching the schuylkill we had a vehicle fire but it's already cleared. all lanes back opened so no problems as you head southbound towards philadelphia. looking pretty good. we have an early morning accident in franconia township on godshall road between indian creek road. look for crews on the scene with that one. the research from the northeast extension to the lehigh valley we've got some restrictions due to construction out there this morning and we've got two construction zones blocking the left lane and it's southbound between lehigh valley and quakertown so lots of crews out there this morning. they are blocking lanes but traffic is getting by. it's early yet so we've got light volume none big weather impacts as well. pennsylvania turnpike eastbound near downingtown more crews out here blocking the right lane and then west deptford full of construction out here. 295 between delsea drive and

42 and also northbound 295 between delaware street and 45 so lots of construction crews doing their job but no major problems this morning. tam. >> thank you karen. new big news and not good news for best bea. the government has slapped the company with a three-point all the million dollar fine. the consumer product safety commission says the company sold and distributed 600 recalled products over a five year period. a judge is allowing small businesses to sue major credit card companies for forcing them to use chip reiders. businesses say the machines are expensive and they don't fully protect the he companies against fraud. they also say the credit card companies penalize them if they don't upgrade to this. mastercard and other companies say they have a strong case supporterring the chip reiders and they're going to court. the major stock indices ended the day in the red. the dow falling 85 points futures pointing to a lower open. you can be as cool as michael j fox in back to the future. nike is auctioning off 89

pairs of its self lacing sneakers. the special edition nike mags are replicas of the ones you see in the movie. proceeds benefit the michael j fox foundation. >> "dancing with the stars" is usually about the celebrities but two pro dancers stole the show last night. >> philadelphia police released new information about a hit-and-run that injured a school crossing guard. detectives say this is a piece of a bumper from the car that hit the woman outside of carnell elementary in northeast philadelphia. they're looking for an older model gray ford fusion or focus similar to what you see there. the car may also have red paint on the front. the crossing guard said she yelled at the driver for almost hitting a child and that's when the person behind the wheel allegedly stopped cursed at her and then backed into her as she stood in the median.

>> also new a tenured girl from michigan saved her entire family when a car ride with her mom turned terrifying. police in south field say she was in the car with her two younger brothers when her mother who was at the wheel lost consciousness. the 10-year-old took control of the car steering it to the side of the road. >> my mom always tells me and then she had a seizure so i stopped the car and called my daddy and he told me to call 911. >> the mother was taken to the hospital thanks to to anila doctors expect the mom to be okay. >> it's 4:57. still ahead on "action news" berks county native taylor swift finds a massive advertising deal. >> we're live on the scene of a massive fire that left two people dead. i would support legislation in pennsylvania that would ban abortion and i would suggest we have penalties for doctors who perform them. would you put people in jail for performing abortions? at some point doctors performing abortions i think would be subject to that sort of penalty. dscc is responsible for the content of this advertising.
