let's go over to abc's lauren lister in new smyrna beach. good morning, lauren. >> reporter: good morning, the center of hurricane matthew is 50 miles off the coast of florida packing winds up to 120 miles per hour and feeling the impact pick up with gusting winds and pelting rain and our power getting knocked out. no audio. rricane matthew barrelg toward florida, the brutal conditions intensifying as the eye of the storm hits coastal cities. overnight violent winds along the beaches, gusts clocking in

more than 4,000 flights have been canceled. >> that was lauren lister reporting in florida. coming up we'll have more on local crews heading into the storm zone. >> david murphy is watching matthew. karen rogers has the commute. >> reporter: matthew is still dangerous down in florida, we're not seeing any effects of the storm. you see some precipitation down near washington, d.c. and clouds out to the coates. we'll see sunshine, but no worse than partly sunny skies. chilly to start out, 56 degrees in. 49 in allentown. 64 in wilmington, 62 in cape may. another cool start. as we go through the day expect sunshine mixing with high clouds, cool by 7:00 a.m., mid 50s there. 60 by 10:00 a.m., 66 by noon. we'll spend the majority of the afternoon in the 70s with a high of 77 degrees. we'll hit that late in the day,

we have light volume at this early hour, it's not causing too much of a problem yet. construction on i-95, northbound between delaware serve vase area and christiana blocking the right lane, but traffic is getting by at this point. >> a group of philadelphia firefighters are on the way to florida, the large convoy will help with the devastation that will come from hurricane matthew. katherine scott is live in the tacony section where pennsylvania task force one left overnight. katherine what's their mission? well, tam, the mission is to hem in whatever way they can. they are not alone there are crews from our that have been dispatched to help in whatever they can. hurricane matthew is churning evacuation orders have been given for georgia, florida and the carolinas, crews from our area are heading down there to help. the american red cross is sending volunteers.

floridians have evacuated. >> reporter: the center of the storm is so close you're getting winds over 100 miles per hour. around here we don't have any big issues. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing we're dry. taking a look outside, sky6 live hd, center city, slight chance of patchy fog, we're not seeing that in center city. that's limited to the outlying suburbs. temperature, 56 degrees, it's cool, the winds are light at 5 miles per hour. not a big issue with wind. satellite and radar showing you how we are starting out clear as a bell. we'll have sunshine early and high clouds gathering. a little bit of rain band coming up from the hurricane misting wash from the north -- missing washington from the north and the west. 58 degrees by 8:00 a.m.

10:00 a.m., 60. noon, 66. 75 by 4:00 p.m. still holding on the low 70s by 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. high temperatures across the region, comfortable across the i-95 corridor. millville, 73. future tracker 6 showing how we will cloud up quickly. noon we'll have showers move in and we'll get into the afternoon and in and out of shower activity straight into the evening. looks like this will be over by the coast, though, as we go overnight into sunday morning, sunday may start out cloudy, but we're expecting the return of sunshine as we go through the day. hurricane matthew is down to a category three storm as matt mentioned a moment ago we have the center of the storm off the coast, close enough to do damage, even if it doesn't make landfall across florida there's the possibility it doesn't happen across the coast. core winds 120 miles per hour.

over 100 miles per hour coming a shore in spots. it goes to category 3 by jacksonville tonight, and category 2 near charleston, south carolina where we might see landfall. the storm will drop to a category 1 and tropical storm when it comes back into the bahamas tuesday evening. it won't be as strong, but still a rainmaker for round two. there's no indications that this storm comes up the east coast, it dials around the bahama or goes off to the east and dies out there. partly sunny, nice, today. 75 degrees. that's the forecasted high, so a nice one locally. tomorrow mostly cloudy skies, rain arriving, 70 is the high, it will stay dry in the morning for the parkinsons walk i'll be helping out with at the art

5:00 a.m., friday, october 7. of course we're tracking hurricane matthew. >> the storm has left death and destruction in the carribean and hugging the florida coastline as a major hurricane. the worst may not be over yet. >> meteorologist david murphy and karen rogers are standing by with more on local weather and traffic, but first up we'll get an update on matthew. >> although matthew has weakened slightly it is pummeling florida's eastern side. georgia and the carolinas are next in the hurricane's path. it is expected to make a u-turn. lauren lister is live in florida on the eastern side with the winds and rain lashing the florida cst
