in one area, homes of 40,000 people just 82 homes are left standing. latest estimates there for death toll at 900 people. and math the you isn't moving away from the carolina coast tonight. our weather is improving as well with the rain, finally coming to an end. meteorologist melissa magee here with the check of the accu weather forecast, melissa. >> we will continue to watch what is left of matthew. here's very latest as we look at satellite six with action radar. matthew is 200 miles to the east of cape hatteras, north carolina but all of that moisture, that tropical moisture did move up in the mid-atlantic region during overnight hours and getting pushed into this cold front across our region and getting burned out to sea. got news is most locations are improving as we get in the second half of our weekend but not without bringing some rain our way. wildwood you pick up 2.5 inches of rain, more than two in atlantic city, more than half of the inch of rain reported in dover. wilmington 1.26 inches.

shooting. victim was a young man investigators say was shot right in front of his family. at this hour search is on for person responsible. "action news" reporter bob brooks has more. >> reporter: this is crime scene of a murder. the stretcher brought out for a young man had his life cut too short. police say a 20 year-old was ambushed just after 2:00 a.m. this morning. according to neighbors sadly there is no surprise with the news today. >> it is bad around here, man, as far as the killing and stuff with guns, real bad. >> reporter: that is terry covington and said crime on third street is proof things are getting worse, this morning, he was heading to church with his grandchildren. covington says he does everything that he can to keep the kids away from something like this. >> it is rough living here. it ain't easy. there is no jobs or kid to do around here. >> reporter: according to chester police the details of the crime are horrible. suspect barged in the 20 year-old's home and shot and killed him in front of his

mother. in word of a motive yet. neighbors tell us that the young man was a bright spot on their street. victim used to give haircuts inside of his home, to people who could not afford them. now detectives here at the police station say they need help with this one. they are after a man who shot and killed a 20 year-old in front of his mother. if you nose anything about this give them a call. reporting from chester, bob brooks, channel six, "action news". a family has been left homeless following a house fire overnight in blackwood, new jersey. the fire broke out just after 3:00 a.m. here in the 1,000 block of oak wood avenue. fire fighters quickly extinguished the fire, and family was able to escape without the any injuries. one fire fighter was taken to the hospital, for heat exhaustion, but is in good condition. no word as to what sparked the blaze. the largest national coming out day event took place this morning in center city. twenty-sixth annual out fest celebrated the cities lb gt community and history. it featured a block party with

holocaust survivors were remembered today during an annual service, in egg harbor township, new jersey. family members of the holocaust survivors gathered

in the rain for the annual service at shallom cemetery. services held every year on the sunday before yom kippur, the event was sponsored by sarah and sam chauffeur holocaust resource center at richard stockton college of new jersey. the irish memorial of philadelphia at penns landing was a site of the commemoration ceremony this morning to honor those who died, suffered or fled irish famine back in mid 19th century. famine commemoration is held each year both here in philadelphia and ireland. after a few brief remarks the group gathered around the memorial for a moment of silence. they celebrated german heritage in montgomery county today. hundreds of people line the streets in rockledge for the annual steuben parade. the boy scouts and several band treated the crowd to live music as they marched through the streets. parade featured this years corn flower queen and her court. streets of philadelphia's olde city neighborhood were filled with local artists a and good food today. olde city fest took place along north third street, and

arch, more than 100 local businesses, set up booths to showcase everything from jewelry to artwork to plotted plants and pottery. there was plenty of food to enjoy from the local restaurants.

advisory for areas in south jersey and down in delaware that stays up until 11:00 p.m. wind gusting as high as 45 miles an hour. right now sustain wind from 14 n philadelphia to as high as 22 miles an hour, and we do have strong gusts to contend with at this hour. here's satellite six with action radar we have matthew that is well off to our south and east, moving due east for rest of today. some of that tropical moisture will work its way in the mid-atlantic region and got caught up with the cold front that came through our area and it is pushing off to the east. the wind behind that however are out of the northwesterly direction and that is cooling us town nicely. call from accu weather for rest of the night mostly clear, windy and much cooler. dropping down to 40 in the suburbs. 46 degrees is the overnight the low in philadelphia. if we hit that this will be the coldest night we have seen since may 16th, so definitely feeling like fall across the area. sun up tomorrow chilly breeze on the way with high pressure staying in control. plenty of sunshine, high
