>> very definitely. hopefully we can dry out these roads before he comes through. we did get the rain. we have maintained temperatures well above freezing. roads are wet across the entire region outside of the poconos. more on that in a second. we have a couple lingering sprinkles. this is obviously not all that bad this morning just take it slow with the roads still on the damp side s the wide view shows you a lack of cloud cover. this is actually radar having a hard time picking up the low lying cloud cover that's still in place. do you have some low clouds and fog. it does look like later in the afternoon we may get a little bit sunshine back in placement as for the poconos that that winter weather advisory is still up until 6 o'clock this morning. freezing drizzle is possible. might not look like there's much precipitation falling but you can still slide on the roads. 41 in philadelphia, 46 degrees in cape may. still in the upper 30's in trenton, run in wilmington and there's that freezing mark up in the poconos. be careful up there for a little while longer.

also a we go through the day 41 degrees by 7 o'clock, 43 by 10 o'clock. notice how it's cool and still fairly cloudy during the most of the morning but during the afternoon we expect some sunny breaks and we should be able to get a high of 50 degrees at 3 o'clock. little better than yesterday. karen we have that cold shot coming though. it gets chillier tomorrow and then especially so on friday and saturday. details coming up. what do you got going on? >> all kinds of problems. roads are just a bit wet out there but we have many accidents coming n this is one on the schuylkill expressway at south street. this is westbound as you head towards the vine. it's a single vehicle accident. last time i showed you this, no police were on the scene. now we could see police aren't it looks like they're trying to tow away the vehicle. it spun out was facing the wrong way at one point blocking the right lane. they're currently blocking all lanes on the schuylkill expressway. this is westbound at south street. i think they're going to reopen it momentarily. here we can see it right now traffic starting to move again. they just pulled that car off to the side. doesn't take much to get the schuylkill slowing and you see that that westbound on the schuylkill at south headed

towards the vine. david talked about some of the low clouds. you get that idea looking at this shot. westbound slow. eastbound is reopening right now after that construction. and an accident that's new in bala cynwyd rockhill road at conshohocken state road. another in lunn ding road township just popped up on gap newport pike. we're seeing these accidents pop up with these wet roads. mattly. >> a robber snatched a woman's handbag at a south philadelphia shopping center in broad daylight then dragged her across the lot. annie mccormick is live at third street and oregon avenue with the details. annie. >> reporter: matt, this happened in the middle of the day at oregon market and detectives are releasing the video not only to try to get this suspect but also because they want to remind people who are out shopping especially during the holiday shopping season that they have to be aware. well, take a look at this surveillance video released by south detectives t watch closely as a woman puts groceries in her trunk after shopping at the oregon market

which is a local market here in the 300 block of oregon avenue. now, police think that the thief stalked her as he circled the parking lot then watched as she put her purse in the passenger side seat while she's putting groceries in the trunk of her vehicle, that's when the thief strikes going into the passenger sized her car grabbing her purse. she gives chase. he jumps into his vehicle and the victim tries to stop him. you can see her holding onto his vehicle. she is dragged several feet before she falls offer. now, this all happened three weeks ago on november 27th but they're just releasing the video yesterday. police describe the suspect's vehicle as distinctive because of the air vents on the front door and the also the tail pipe. they say it is a late model to itota highlander. when so many people are putting packages into their cars they want to make sure they're aware around them. police also suggest you do not

run after somebody that steals your purse. again that woman is okay but police are strongly suggesting you do not do that. if you have any information you're torched contact 686-tips. reporting live in south philadelphia, annie mccormick channel6 "action news." tam back to you. >> annie thank you. it is 5:05. we're learning more about the rookie new jersey state troop here died in the line of duty. trooper frankie williams was that responding to reports of an erratic driver in millville when a car groved the grassy median and slammed into his vehicle killing them both. williams had that worked at the lowes egg harbor township. bill warren jr. was williams' childhood friend. >> he was the one that stepped up and looked out for us, he took care of us took us under his wing. >> investigators say the driver who plowed into williams was 61-year-old psychiatrist lloyd rudd leaf elmer. williams leaves behind new wife. funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

>> green party nominee jill stein's petition for reclown get a hearing before a pennsylvania judge on friday. lawyers for stein for the commonwealth of pennsylvania and for donald trump will have 45 minutes to make their case. stein held a rally outside trump tower on monday and called pennsylvania's election system a national disgrace. she insisted the state's voting system is vulnerable, hackable and antiquated technology. new jersey governor chris christie's job approval is now tied for the second worst in the state's recent history. only 18 percent of registered voters surveyed in a fairleigh dickinson poll approve of the republican's performance. jim florio fell to 18 percent in 1990 after he signed tax increases. a separate quinnipiac university poll found in 48 percent believe christie personally ordered the traffic jams on the george washington bridge. >> ♪ >> the nation is marking the 75th anniversary of the

need for christmas. >> that's nice. >> hey david. >> got a little bit of rain out there but it's not like it was last afternoon and last night, okay. storm tracker6 live double scan showing that you most of the area is now dry at least when it comes to active showers. if we gonial little bit tighter on this stuff what's left over is very light, very scattered where you don't see the green there might still be low lying cloud cover giving you some fog and maybe some drizzle on the windshield but this is a situation that is better than last night and it is going to be drying out over the next several hours. taking a look outside, we have sky6 and there is the commodore barry bridge looking kind of gray above the given for now. sprinkles and showers getting out of here pretty particular quickly and we'll hope for sunny breaks later today. 41 degrees in philadelphia on the chilly side as you step outside. 41 in wilmington. upper 30's in allentown reading lancaster and trenton and 43 in millville, mid 40's down the shore. not very breezy out there. future tracker6 showing that you by 8:30 or 9 o'clock most of these sprinkles and showers are getting out of here.

later in the afternoon perhaps the return of some sunshine. model seems to suggest that but we'll see. it might be a bit of a struggle. lehigh valley mostly cloudy and chimply with sunny breaks later on and the same story at the shore. cloudy early maybe some sunny breaks later in the day a bit breezy with about a seven to 14 miles an hour breeze. not enough to knock your hat off or anything but a little bit chilly. 53 degrees is the high. in philadelphia a high of 50 with mostly cloudy skies chilly conditions and there are those winds run do you know out of the northwest between seven and 14 today. overnight mostly cloudy skies, cold, 36 degrees the overnight low. even some of the cooler suburbs probably close to that 36. and winds out of the west dying down a bit overnight. and then tomorrow cooler air starts to move in and we'll only get up to about 45 degrees for a high with clouds and some sunny breaks. an isolated shower or even a flurry is possible especially later in the day and at night as that that front comes in and the winds will start to build in later in the afternoon and at night and

then look out as we go later into the week friday and saturday you'll have blustery conditions with wind chills making it feel like it's in the 20's. the cold air is a coming. your exclusive accuweather 7-day, today's high 50 mostly cloudy. tomorrow clouds, some sun, a high of just 45 with a late sprinkle or flurry and then blustery and cold conditions on friday with a high of 42. but it will feel like it's in the 20's with those strong gusty winds. and every now and then despite a lot of sunshine if you do get a puff of clouds it could actually give you a little flurry bouncing down out of those clouds and then still brisk and cold on saturday. saturday's high just 38 degrees and wind chills again in the 20's. clouds and sun on sunday, 42 degrees for the eagles. looks like it will be dry with some rain possible at night. and then monday cloudy and rainy and the same story on tuesday. monday before dawn by the way the northern and western suburbs could actually see a bit of a wintry mix before a changeover to rain. >> okay. thank you david. it's now 5:10 and still ahead and all new on "action news" a speech by a white

she's got the latest on that. >> yeah, this is the schuylkill expressway so we've been watching this accident with the schuylkill here at south street. it is wet as you can see. we've got a number of emergency workers so last time i showed you this they were pushing the car off to the side but we've got fire trucks and an ambulance now on the scene with this accident. it looked to be a single vehicle accident where somebody spun out and was facing the wrong way. kind of easy to do on wet roads. you have to be careful not to go too quickly. one lane get buying on the schuylkill westbound at south street with all the extra emergency workers fire trucks and ambulance police that have arrived on the scene. we showed you this even before any emergency workers got there and now you can see it's a bit of a mess here on the schuylkill westbound at south street. other accidents in the area, we're got one rockhill road at conshohocken state road. route 23. police are on the scene with this. in media delaware county we have a transformer fire on lincoln street near jackson street so we have crews on the scene with that one as well. you might want to avoid that area. in mercer county an accident

on the turnpike northbound approaching exit 7a here in new jersey so watch. it's also blocking the entrance ramp to the woodrow wilson service plaza so be careful if you need gas you can't get on the entrance ramp. storm tracker6 live double scan showing just a few raindrops left over. we had a half inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain. roads are wet. we have ponding and puddling and people hydroplaning. route 70 showers coming down, route 322,. few showers there as well. but it will stay cloudy and rather dry the rest of the day with a high of 50. matt and tam. >> okay, thank you, karen. new this morning, it's been a night of protests on the campus of texas a & m university. >> united will never be divided. >> hundreds of people gathered outside of the student center last night in college station to show their outrage over richard spencer's speaking engagement. spencer leads a white nationalist organization. most of the protests were

peaceful but campus police say two nonstudents were arrested. >> it's his right to say what he wants but it's also our right to my reject that type of message. >> a and m officials say they did not schedule spencer's speech, the university rejected spencer's views but say the public school they could not outright ban the event as a private school could have done. a former students invited spencer to speak and reserved campus space which is available to the public. >> testimony will continue today in the murder trial of the man accused of killing former new orleans saints players will smith. racquel smith his widow took the stand yesterday and confronted the man charged with the murder cardale hayes. she showed jurors gun shot wounds to her legs suffered just before her husband was killed. hayes defense lawyers claim the smiths were the aggressors in the confrontation following a traffic accident back in april. louisiana man who fatally

shot ex nfl player joe mcnight has been charged with manslaughter ronald gasser and mcknight got into an argument after cut the other off and gasser pulled his gun and fired three shots. mcknight was not armed. the charges come following scathing criticism whom questioned why gasser was questioned but not arrested at first. >> a jolly time led to al holiday moment that a little boy says he'd like to forget. the north carolina child claims he was fat shamed by santa and that it will always hurt. the conversation with father christmas left the nine-year-old in tears. low point came after hours of laughter on saturday on main street anthony asked for an i pod touch an drone for christmas and he says that's when he was body shamed. >> i've never seen anything like it. and when i got done, he said stay off the hamburgers and french fries and that just real disrespected me and i felt awful.

the vehicle. i've got one truck off to the side at this point but police on the scene. this is the schuylkill westbound at south street. traffic getting by but jammed from that having been blocked with an accident, at one points blocking all lanes. jammed from university to south street dave. >> on the big border we have a couple lingering sprinkles and showers pushing towards the:some of it north of philadelphia, some of it south in south jersey. even where you don't see the green there's the possibility of low lying clouds this morning giving you a little drizzle on the windshield. if you're in the poconos for another half hour or so be careful because there could be some freezing drizzle on the roads. bus stop forecast lots of clouds, sprinkles possible, 40 by 6 o'clock, 41 by 8 o'clock so dress them up warm. and as we go through the day if you wait little later in the day and you got to run some errands you're not in too bad shape. 43 degrees by 10 o'clock, 45 by noon. by 3 o'clock we get a high of 50 degrees and we hope later this afternoon that we start to break out a little bit of sunshine. you're back to 43 by 6 o'clock. at the big board at the

airport this morning hoping for all green aircraft. no major delays. that's what we got. up in boston there's some lingering rain. matt and tam. >> thank you david. in health check a new report highlights the dangers of driving with a lack of sleep. aaa officials say drivers who normally sleep five to six hours a night are twice as likely to crash as drivers who get the recommended seven hours a day. the drivers who slept for five hours or less were found to be four times as likely to crash. a crash risk that's comparable to driving drunk. drowsy driving is a factor in one in five fatal crashes on american roadways every year. >> in this morning's "gma" first look ikea announceing a new hands-on option for its salaried and hourly employees at the company for over a year. >> at ikea we believe that everything you need should be within reach. >> the scandinavian sire store offering up to four months of paid parental leave. the goal is to ensure coworkers have the opportunity bond with their children and connect as a new family.

the cleveland tennessee police department posted the video on its facebook page showing officer sean bulo dancing and ringing a bermont the department is in a friendly competition with a neighboring sheriff's department to see who can get the most money in that red kettle. finally the mannequin challenge that has been sweeping the internet led to the arrest of two people in alabama. now this -- check this out. this is the challenge that launched an investigation. madison county sheriff's deputy says someone tipped them off to this video of what was a staged shootout. after an investigation, a search warrant was issued for the home where the video was shot and police seized marijuana handguns andy an assault rifle and magazines for the rifle. tam. >> thank you, matt. still ahead on "action news" would you pay a thousand dollars for christmas tree? details on a vendor in new york city that indicators to customers that pay four figures for christmas tree boo before it's been decorated.

toll continues to climb. >> a purse snatching victim risks her own safety to try and get her handbag back during a brazen daylight robbery. >> new this morning, a woman in the lehigh valley town known as the christmas city steals the heart of one of its holiday displays. >> david and karen join us. david is it still raining out there? >> little bit but not as bad as last night. take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan, we have app couple lingering sprinkles and showers style trying to push through the region. it's possible there's a little drizzle on the windshield from the low lying clouds and we can't rule out a little bit of fog here and there this morning. things will get better. i know it looks like there's no cloud cover locally. that's because the clouds are so low to the ground infrared satellite has a hard time filling them in but it is cloudy out there. we're expecting some breaks in the clouds later today though and once we get rid of that morning sprinkle maybe a little after the rush hour and then get through kind of a cloudy morning we should wind up with some sunny breaks later. up in the pocon
