>> first up, meteorologist karen rogers in for david and matt pelman with traffic. good morning. >> good morning. unusual here at 5 o'clock in the morning and we're seeing temperatures at 40 degrees in martins creek, line in quakertown and pottstown. it's already 51 degrees in coatesville, 52 in kennett square, 55 in chester and we just went up to 56 right now in center city. had an update there n south jersey let's check these numbers. 57 in hammonton, 55 vineland, 56 in dover delaware. usually our average high for this date is 42 so you see how these temperatures are way above average. storm tracker6 live double scan showing maybe a couple sprinkles trying to pop up. for the most part we're dry. but this is what's on the way. some showers coming in our direction associated with a front that's going to bring a big change to our weather tomorrow. the first half of your day is going to be wet at times with showers moving through at 7:00 a.m., 56 degrees. still a few showers at 10:00 a.m. but we're up to 61. then we're dry at 1 o'clock. we start to see a little
sunshine breaking through the clouds, 59. you see how temperatures hit an early high before lunchtime of about 62 degrees and then slowly fall flew the afternoon. at 4 o'clock it's 55 with sunshine and clouds. a nice afternoon to be outside. at 7 o'clock, 46 degrees. big changes coming in the next few days. details in just a few minutes matt. >> changes on the traffic front this morning, karen. i think people will be headed back to work so it's going to be busier than yesterday morning but still not as busy as a normal morning. i think a lot of people still have the entire week off. construction crews were not busy last night. most of them weren't working so the vine street expressway stayed opened and it's opened and clear this morning ready for you just a little bit damp in a few spots. crews also did not work yesterday on the water main break in queen village along columbus boulevard southbound, so there's still a big hole in the ground and still just one southbound lane opened. i'm wondering thinking they might be out there later today and we might have a complete closure later on but right now one southbound lane is opened.
this is 95 northbound side approaching woodhaven road. vehicles broken down here on the northbound right shoulder but traffic is getting by without too much of a problem. had a crash in upper dublin along dreshertown road early this morning. that has cleared out. everything reopened there but there's a new single vehicle wreck in tug has township on the ramp from 73 to 100 northbound. hearing there are some injuries and restrictions there as well as emergency crews are on the scene and a car ran into a parked car in chester so expect restrictions along second street between wilson and mill. also hearing there are injuries involved in that accident so a couple serious accidents on these damp roads already this morning. on the mass transit front back to normal schedules today for the most part with one exception, the septa buses and trolleys are on modified weekday schedule all this week so things are a little abnormal all this holiday week. otherwise back to normal weekday schedules and a live look in south jersey. this is the new jersey turnpike just north of the
delaware memorial bridge. we had big southbound delays here last evening headed into delaware. this morning traffic is moving fine here on the turnpike with no complaints so far on this tuesday. matt. >> thank you, matt. new on "action news" bursts of malls disturbances. "action news" reporter annie mccormick filed this report. >> reporter: late last night philadelphia police responded to philadelphia mills shopping mall with a report of large crowds. there were no arrests or specific incidents reported but across the country police had a busy day at other shopping centers as crowds middle for post holiday sales and returns. in elizabeth new jersey this was the scene at the mills at jersey gardens after several people were injured trying to evacuate when a fight broke out in the food court. shoppers mistook a chair falling to the ground for gunfire and ran. chaos ensued. two pregnant women suffered minor injuries, a 12-year-old broke his leg and an eight-year-old child suffered
a cut finger. in ohio, officers used pepper spray to diffuse a fight. authorities arrested a juvenile for trying hit an officer. ohio police believe the melee was loosely organized on social media. in aurora illinois just outside of chicago videos posted on twitter show mall security trying get a group under control there. >> everyone is pulling out their phones i see the police rushing in. i see kids hitting each other, kids trampling each other so it was just madness. >> reporter: alexis malone was working inside the illinois shopping center and says multiple fights broke out inside around 7:00 last night. temporarily closing the mall. >> that was annie mccormick reporting. now to south philadelphia where police and a family are asking the public for help identifying the cold blooded killer who murdered an 81-year-old woman on christmas eve. police say the shooter came into marie buck's corner store at sixth and titan on saturday dressed in a dark hoodie and clothing and without saying a
word opened fire shooting the senior citizen a dozen times. buck had been running the store for 43 years. she was a fixture of the neighborhood who always helped people who were in need or just down on their luck. no one can figure out why someone would kill her. >> she was an unbelievably warm loving person and the worst people didn't deserve to die like that. any other alone the best. >> this is a surprise. it's unbelievability you can't -- sometimes you think you want to wake up and it just be a nightmare, you've been dreaming. 81 years old. who could possibly have done that? who could have possibly hated her that much to do that. >> buck's family says she didn't have surveillance cameras because she didn't think she'd ever need them. she was set to finally retire next month. allentown police are trying to sort out a deadly double stabbing. authorities identified the victim who died as 27-year-old lord alfred guerrero. he was found at the intersection of sixth street
and sumner court early yesterday morning. the other man richard mccause slapped being treated at lehigh valley hospital. police say the two were involved in a disturbance involving several people. it may have been a road rage incident. >> frantic search under way for a missing woman and granddaughter from south jersey. 71-year-old barbara briley and la myer briley were traveling to north carolina over the weekend. family members have not heard from them since they stopped to get gas near richmond virginia on christmas eve. the two were traveling in a silver toyota rav4 with the new jersey tag c8 0els, there it is. calls placed to briley have gone straight to voicemail. police in hamilton township atlantic county are assisting in the investigation. a drexel university professor has stirred up a firestorm over a tweet. it read, all i want for christmas is white genocide.
georgeriello-maher is calling it satirical. >> now to the white house transition an back and forth brewing between president obama and incoming president donald trump. the pair traded competing claims about who would have won if this year's election had been between them. in a podcast hosted by his former adviser david axlerod president obama says he's confident he would have won on his visions for america but trump disputes that. on twitter he says no way pointing to jobs healthcare and the ongoing conflict with isis. the discussion and the interview was pure political conjecture of course because as you know the 22nd amendment to the constitution limits a president to two terms. >> happening today, the temple owls face wake forest in the

southwest and the ocean temperature is 43. satellite6 and action radar showing the clouds have moved in and we could see app couple of sprinkles here or there but here's the bulk of the showers. they haven't hit us just yet but you can see they're on the way. so the first half of the day showery at times here and there. we can take a wider look here. look at the cold front. so here's the cold front. we've got warm air ahead of it, colder air behind it, showers on the way and this cold front is going to make a change in our temperatures coming up tomorrow. so, by 8:00 a.m. today, we're looking at some showers here or there through the region. maybe coming down a little heavily in one or two spots. for the most part it's light. at 11 o'clock the showers are wrapping up already. and you could see the drier air moving in from the west so we're going to have a nice afternoon to enjoy those temperatures. here's a look at the temperatures along the east coast. you could see ahead of the front how mild we are. 70 already in new orleans, 56 in atlanta. but it's minus four in bismarck, 26 in omaha. the colder air behind the front so today it's warm. tomorrow it's cooler. you get the idea? let's show you this 12 hive hour forecast
hour by hour. starting off lots of clouds, some showers here or there through the early part of the day. 56 degrees at 7:00 a.m. at 10:00 a.m. we're up to 61. and then at lunchtime we're dry but you see the temperatures slowly start to fall. it's still nice, 59 degrees. a bit more sun mixing with the clouds at 4:00 a nice comfortable 55 degrees. at 7 o'clock tonight, it's 46 and it gets cold in the overnight hours. here's future tracker6. we want to jump ahead to thursday because i want to show you something that's coming up in the movement we're talking rain thursday afternoon. this is a look at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. we could see snow in the poconos mixed precipitation in parts past lehigh valley. rain everywhere us but that's something else that we're tracking because in will be a full blown snowstorm new england. for us it's mostly just rain. here's your seven-day forecast. a little bit of everything on this forecast. it's a wet start today but a warm afternoon, 62 degrees for your high although you hit that high early. tomorrow much cooler, 43 degrees but still around average.

morrisville bucks county along route one the super highway at pennsylvania avenue. a few cars there headed northbound toward the trenton-morrisville bridge and mercer county but overall traffic volume is still pretty light in bucks county n montgomery county valley forge road was not closed overnight by the northeast extension but it will close again tonight starting at 9 o'clock and they'll do that then the next three nights. we do have a couple accidents we're watching this morning. one out near douglas township on the ramp from route 73, that's philadelphia avenue to go northbound on route 100 there by patriot buick gmc. we're hearing a slain blocked and emergency crews are on the scene. so watch out for that. there's also one in chester county delaware county where a car ran into a parked car along 291. that's seconds street near wilson street. so emergency crews are on the scene there. and construction crews start some new work today here in delco. elsewhere, warn ford of a --
wallingford avenue going to close. possum hollow road alternates. new water main in upper chichester. blue bell avenue going to close today. chichester avenue or namaans creek road would be alternates around that. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app. it takes to us my neck of the woods my neighborhood this morning east falls midvale avenue close to fox street getting reports of an object on the road because of the holiday yesterday today is trash day in our neighborhood so i'm thinking maybe it's some trash laying there in the roadway. matt and nydia. >> maybe an empty box. thanks matt. developing overnight rescue workers found a flight recorder from the russian military plane that crashed in the black see over the weekend. all 92 people on board are believed dead. the plane crashed two minutes after taking off from the southern russian city of so much cle. he was it was headed to syria. russian officials say pilot error or possible al technical problem is likely to blame for the crash while aviation experts have spoken out saying
foul play should not be ruled out yet. and this is new. christmas nearly turned deadly for a young girl and her father in arkansas. someone shot seven-year-old tia marie ivory and her dad demaryius. he was shot in the arm his daughter was slot in the leg. both are expected to be okay. a witness said they saw a white jaguar leaving the scene after the shooting. investigators are searching for two people of interest in the case. ly. >> also new on "action news" a four-year-old miami boy alerted his mom to a fire with the help of a phrase from a popular children's movie. nathan einhorn was with his two-year-old brother brody in the kitchen when the pizza box on top of the stove went up in flames. mom was feet away when she heard mason yelling fire in the hole a phrase from the movie alvin and the chipmunks. >> i saw smoke and the fire and then i saw the big fire.
>> michelle was able to quickly put out the fire and mason was rewarded for his quick thinking way trip to the fire department. >> it was a marquee matchup in sacramento last night. sixers joel embiid had the tough task of guarding demarcus cousin. sixers overcame an 11-point deficit but gave up a 13 and o run early in the fourth. they lose 102-100 a squeaker. the sixers face the jazz in salt lake city tomorrow night. >> oh, so close. 5:19 right now. an incredible story of survival from a mom who walked 26 miles to find help after her family got stranded in a snowy grand canyon. >> that's coming up later. reasons why you should be wary of holiday weight gain. it can linger well into the following year. >> ♪

>> all right karen thank you. in health check, be careful not overindulge too much this holiday season. researchers say that weight gained over christmas can remain for months. a recent study from across three countries found in the 10 days after christmas there was up to a 0.6 percent increase in weight gain. in the united states, adults gained just under a pound and a half between christmas and new year's. >> in this this morning's "gma" first look karen klein her husband eric and their 10-year-old son isaac set out on a family trip to the grand canyon. their gps serving as their guide. >> we were kind of thinking well, this doesn't seem right but this is the way it's telling us to go. >> they were in the midst of a storm and their car got stuck. so she slogged back to the main road where she'd hoped to flag someone down or find cell phone signal. finally after walking 30 miles for 30 hours way pulled groin muscle, she notice add cabin near the entrance to the park.

>> in the morning buzz, oops, fake news did it again. britney spears is alive despite a hoax reporting her death of sony music's twitter account had been hacked and posted two tweets claiming spears had died. the tweets have been deleted. spears rep was quick to say it's mark twain's situation. she's still al life. sony music says its social media account had been comprised and that it apologizes for britney spears and her fans for any confusion. no word yet on who might have been behind that attack. also mother motorists in northern wisconsin had an encounter with a nosy basement state troop ertz discovered the bear was standing on its hind legs and pieing into passing cars. officials believe the bear is that affecting that way because people have been feeding it. very dangerous thing to do especially with bears but even with deer too. they captured the bear and will allow it to hibernate for
