franklinville, new jersey man in gloucester county. he was conducting train exercises approaching the newcastle airport. that is when it went down in this ditch behind this hill. a shed and some cars were damaged. somehow the pilot managed to avoid the adjacent buildinged. cell phone video caught the quick black smyth one mile southeast of the newcastle airport. >> a privately owned helicopter crashed here on quigley boulevard in newcastle. we confirm that one person was on board and one fatality. >> the chopper was this model a euro e 135 operated by metro transportation that ran for university of pennsylvania medical. and it was conducting a training

flight from atlantic city airport to newcastle airport. first responders rushed to the scene and john hughes took this video after he watched the chopper crash. >> it sounds like it was out of gas, like the propellers were not moving and it was struggling and i looked up and seen it going straight down. >> jay williams heard the crash and saw the after imagine. >> we heard the crash and felt the crash across the street. the investigation began immediately with authorities marking debris including this tank on the grown and getting footage with a drone. >> it's up to them whether they want to continue to conduct the investigation tonight or hold off until the daytime hours and start off fresh tomorrow morning. >> the ntsb, is expected to

arrive on the scene here at 7:00 tonight and we do expect another briefing around that time. again, we know the pilot was a franklinville, new jersey man 37 years old and his name is withheld pending notification of next of kin. >> thank you. in other news a dangerous leak in south jersey is contained after it caused nearly 2,000 people to evacuate. just before 10:00 this morning people near center square road in logan township began reporting a chemical smell to officials. they found that the valve on a nearby rail car failed and the car was leaking a flammable substance similar to propane and it has since been secured. and 1900 people were evacuated and two people were hurt and both expected to be okay. officials say it's unclear when the evacuation order will be lifted to. turning to accuweather a

video please call police. well tonight we are getting the first look at the man that sparked an armed standoff at a delaware county cvs. this man quazi hudson is facing charges after charging the drug store with a gun and barricading himself inside. jeanette reyes has the details tonight from media. >> reporter: one by one this morning customers showed up to the cvs along it's 200 block of baltimore avenue only to find it was closed. a sign said so but no specific reason was given. >> i saw the cars here and was wondering if you were open and now i see they are closed. customers were later shocked to hear their neighborhood cvs was the scene of a two hour standoff less than 24 hours ago. this is not an average night in media. >> media police received a call at 10:00 p.m. about a robbery in progress and he was identified as 46-year-old quazi hudson

dressed in all black with a black mask and walk into the store demanding cash from one of the employees, no customers were there at the time. >> crazy i didn't think anything would happen in media and forced the employee into the rear of the store and in the terrifying moments one employee had the presence of mind to call police. officers arrived before the suspect had a chance to leave the scene, he first exited from the rear and after seeing police rushed back inside and tried to leave through the front doors only to see police were there too. hudson surrendered to police after a two hour standoff and his weapon was found inside and nobody was injured. >> the the world we live in and it's disconcerting that it has become that way but the reality we wake up with every morning. >> cvs says in part we we are grateful for the fast response of law enforcement and nobody was harmed. we are offering counseling services to any store employees

government officials in greece say an explosion that wounded a former prime minister and two officials was an attack. the explosion occurred in his car in central athens the 69-year-old and others hurt are all stable. he served as the prime minister for six months in 2011 and 2012. and a deputy governor of the european central bank.

the investigation into the manchester arena tack that killed 22 people extended from up into libya. and authorities in multiple countries are working to determine if salman abedi acted alone or with a sophisticated terror cell and his mother said he made a call to his brother and father before the attack asked them to forgive him. the number of deathed related to alzheimer's disease jumped 15% of the past few years and the numbers are expected to continue growing. ali gorman joins us with more details. >> this is something we saw coming down the pike. researchers say that as the baby boomer generation ages we see more people diagnosed with alzheimer's and dying from the disease. the number of deaths jumped 54% from 1999 to 2014 and more

patient are dying at home. and it affects more than 5 million americans and doctors say the number is growing and we need to boost the numbers of services available to help families. sports with aleleviate the symptoms of adh but they could run the risk of higher injuries. and a study found that students with adhd tend to go for team sports and not individual ones and they over overwhelmingly prefer contact sports. >> it puts them at higher risk for injury especially in the contact sports. >> experts say it's a good idea that coached are told about adhd early on to help athleted play safely. if you use a fitness track

toward count how many calories you burn researchers at stanford caution the number could be way off and could sabotage your diets and tested several of the trackers the least accurate was off by 93% and the most accurate the fit bit surge was off by 27%. most likely it overcalculated the number of calories burned and that could lead you to eat extra calories and wonder why the weight is not coming off. they found the heart rate monitors on the trackers were pretty accurate but if you use the trackers to count calories they could be overestimating. >> i wouldn't want any charm -- thanks ali. still to come the revitalization effort in trenton is bringing change to the state capital and the good cause behind all of these red noses at one montgomery county school.

wall street continued to push into record territory because of a spike in tech

stock. both the s&p 500 and nasdaq hit highs. for the first time residents in trenton will be able to order a frappuccino or latte from starbucks without leaving the city. the first location will open on south warren street the city says it's an effort to invest in underserved neighborhoods to create jobs and sell products from local vendors. there were a lot of red noses in montgomery county day. red nose day was held in abington and the city council sold the noses to raise money for the red nose fund to help fight childhood poverty around the world and put smiles on the faces and faculty and staff got involved address well. philadelphia mayor, jim kenney joined volunteers to

time now for the accuweather forecast. >> meteorologist, cecily tynan looking ahead to the memorial day weekend. >> how are we shaping up? >> it won't be completely nice. not a washout and temperatures are comfortable, stormtracker 6 live double scan showing i am tracking this line of showers and thunderstorms and it's working into philadelphia right now. it's just moved into philadelphia and no lightning strikes here. this is where there are heavy downpours and you see how the line is moving up to the north quickly at 30 miles per hour. and crossing the new jersey turn took and further down to the south we are getting thunderstormed. this cluster right now that is moving across the delaware right now it's moving out of smyrna. this has not only a lot of lightning it also has reports of wind gusts of up to 45 miles per

hour and hail. this is the leading edge of some active weather tonight. temperature-wise, 66 in philadelphia and 62 in allentown and 61 in trenton but south of philadelphia, breaking into some sunshine, millville up to 75 and atlantic city airport 73 and dover 73 and areas with more sun with a higher temperatures have a better possibility of some severe weather. so satellite and radar showing you can see this swirl. there is a triple point low forming over northern virginia and this is what moves through tonight and this is what brings us scattered showers and thunderstorms. if you head out tonight you want to bring the rain gear at 8:00 and some storms and philadelphia areas to the south it looks like they lift across the lehigh valley and mercer county at 11:00 tonight and tomorrow we see clouds in the morning and sunshine by the afternoon. that coastal flood advisory continues tonight for minor flooding and high tide will be

hello again here is what is happening on "action news" thursday night. the block on president trump's travel ban 2.0 is upheld by an appeals court. why the judges made their decision coming up. a fraternity at a local university will remain shuttered for the next several years following a string of incidents and a jersey shore town that sustained damage during superstorm sandy is getting a re hab. and a woman and two men were sitting in a minivan when someone in another car drove by and opened fire, all three people were in the van were hit and were rushed to the hospital and the woman did not survive.

this point. temperature-wise in the 60s in philadelphia. we are in the 50s as we head to the poconos and 70s in southern areas where we did have the sunshine this afternoon. satellite 6 along with action radar low pressure the primary low, in southeastern ohio. there is a new low developing near washington and that is what is firing up the downpours and thunderstorms and they become more numerous into the evening hours. millville to wildwood and salem. a cluster of storms are pulling through and that lifts back into the philadelphia trenton and lakehurst 10:00, 10:30 tonight as it pushes north and wind and small hail this evening but gone by the time we get to the 11:00 hour and midnight and that sets us up for the unofficial start to the weekend. sun and clouds on friday and a breeze north-northwest 20 to 25 miles per hour. and that keeps us fairly dry.

possible of some veryvy weather throughout the evening. meteorologist, cecily tynan, is tracking the storm with stormtracker 6 live double scan radar. what is happening out there? >> reporter: this is just the appetizer to the main event. double scan live radar showing widespread weather to the north and west over d.c. and a renegade line of storms moving over us and this is causing problems for the evening commute over i-95 and 676 the schuylkill expressway 15 lightning strikes in the past 15 min, it's moving west northwest heavy downpours. and thunder and lightning and really the intense downpours the main problem. could have ponding of water on roads and in philadelphia the rain falling at the rate of 4 inches per hour. this is the kind of rain if you are driving through it you pull over and wait it out. it's hard to see when it's raining that
