katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, so far police have not made any arrests in the case they are looking for surveillance footage and conducting interviews. david oh remains in critical, but stable condition. he went into surgery overnight. before that police say he was talking and in good spirits. this happened on the 5800 block of thomas avenue in west philadelphia around 9:30 p.m., this is the same neighborhood where oh has lived since the 60s. he was getting out of his car getting some bags out of trunk near his home when a man approached him and started talking to him. at first, he didn't know what he was saying, it was inaudible, so he briefly engaged him in conversation, the man pulled out a knife and demanded he hand over his keys and stabbed him on the left side of his body and took off. investigators believe it was a crime of opportunity that likely the suspect didn't know the person he attacked was a city council member.

oh is a veteran with a wife and four children elected to city council in 2011 and re-elected in 2015. some of his colleagues and staff members have stopped by to see him and check on how he is doing. fire commissioner was here as well as joe williams and city council president darrell clark. >> david is a tough guy, he will be ready to talk about legislation on the phone tomorrow, he has a hearing coming up on one of his bills. he'll be okay. >> reporter: mayor kenny is in iceland right now, but he re-released a statement saying -- he said they are praying for the counsel mab's -- councilman's quick recovery. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> david oh was first elected

to council in 2011 and re-elected in 2015. he is the first asian-american elected to public office if philadelphia. he is the only u.s. military veteran currently serving on council. >> residents in the city's frankford section helped save a woman whose attacker tried to stuff her into a trash bag on the 4900 block of frankford avenue last night. the man began to beat the woman as she was unconscious, police say he preceded to empty a trash can of garbage and tried to put her in the bag. witnesses intervened, the man ran off. the women is in critical condition. a triple shooting left two people dead and third wounded in north philadelphia. it happened on the 1300 block of west rush street before 11:00 p.m. witnesses say two gunmen on bikes rode up to the victim and

opened fire. a man in his 20s and 17-year-old boy was killed. the a third man was shot in the arm. we'll have a live report in the next half-hour. a burlington county high school teacher is due in court accused of taking pictures and upskirting female students. he was a teacher at lenape high school. howell is charged with endangering the welfare of children and other offenses. testimony is underway in the child sexual assault child of lee kaplan accused of ambush ing several young amish sisters who were gifted to him. the girl's mother said she was gifted to kaplan who helped the family financially. people could have to use epipens for life saving regions have no reasons to be outraged this morning. maribel aber is live at the time

root 352 near old forge road, emergency crews on the scene. developing overnight, philadelphia city councilman david oh had to be rushed into surgery overnight after being stabbed during an attempted robbery outside his home. katherine scott is live outside the penn presbyterian center to update his condition. >> reporter: investigator believe it was a crime of opportunity, the suspect didn't know the person he was attacking was a city council member. he is in critical, but stable condition. he went into surgery overnight. he was talking and wanted people to know he was going to be okay. he was getting out of his car on the 5800 block of thomas avenue near his home. a man approached him around

9:30 p.m. a man started talk to him, but the councilman couldn't understand what the man was saying, so he asked him a few questions that's when the man pulled out a knife and demanded he hand over his keys. he stabbed him on the left side of his body and fled. oh is a veteran. he has a wife and four children. he was first elected to city council 2011 and re-elected four years later. word spread quickly, the fire comisher and city council president was -- fire commissioner and city council president was here. >> we asked him what he needed. he likes to talk to people and try to help them. he is safe at this point. >> we came over to talk to the staff make sure everything is okay. at any point anytime doesn't matter who it is, random

violence strikes again, so we'll keep saying our prayers and make sure the family is okay. >> reporter: mayor kenny is in iceland right now, but released a statement saying whenever violence happens on the streets it's a terrible tragedy. when it happens near the homes where we are supposed to feel safe it is all the more devastating. police are conducting interviews and looking for surveillance footage in the area. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank you for that. now to another developing story a barrage of bullets strikes three people on north philadelphia street two, including a teenager has died. jeanette reyes has the latest on the search for the gunman. good morning, jennette. >> reporter: good morning, tam, this is the second teen this week to be shot and killed. the solely teen of this shooting died a -- the sole teen of the

shooting was one of the two to die. the shooting broke out on the 1300 block of west rush street. the shooters approached their victims on bikes and fired two dozen times at close range. police arrived and found two men on the ground with gunshot wounds and surrounded by shell casings. one in his 20s, the other 17 years old. authorities operate found a third person. >> while investigating the scene, a third victim, a 20-year-old male showed up at temple hospital by private auto he was shot in the arm, he is in stable condition. >> reporter: now, police don't have a motive or suspect, but they have something to go off of, we understand they have interviewed witnesses and have surveillance cameras and videos to go off police cameras and

residential carpets. of course anyone with information is asked to contact police. jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. we have new details on a story we first broke on "action news" yesterday morning an 18-year-old was charged with the attempted murder of his 7-year-old sister. he put a bag over the face of his sister. their mother found her unconscious in the about the same time of their home in olney section. the girl is on life support. police arrested alfred yesterday when they found him in the back seat of the police car at the 35th police district. secret service is warning businesses about bogus bills. they can trick the counterfeit pens. real bills are farndle -- forged to look like 100-dollar bills.
