♪ ♪ good morning to washington. the annual congressional baseball game usually goes off without a whole lot of fanfare. >> last night's edition was definitely different all because the it followed the attack on the republican practice field. unity was a theme of the evening. lawmakers you see praying together before the democrats won the game 11-2. the trophy that goes to the winning team. the democratic manager. to the republican counterpart. it will be kept in the office of the injured congressman, steve scalise. a long history played in 1909. and with the victory, lead the all time series with 40 wins. republicans have 39. there was one tie back in 1983 when the game was called after both teams scored 17 runs.

to get congressional approval to soften or lift existing sanctions. the goal is to punish russia for election interference. its annexation of crimea and support for syria's government. the bill now heads to the house. >> russian president vladamir putin dismissing the senate action on sanctions as another attempt to contain his country. putin reiterated denial of russian election meddling and likened former fbi director james comey to nsa leaker edward snowden. and sarcastically offered comey political asylum in russia where snowden is living in exile. >> back to d.c. where there are arrest warrants for 12 turkish security agents accused of attacking peaceful protesters during the turkish president's visit to the city last month. officials say protests happen every day in d.c. but won't tolerate these sorts of attacks. some of the scenes from last month. the state department is backing up the city.
