make landfall in the u.s. in a decade. >> reporter: good afternoon. forecasters say that right now the big concern is what could happen after this hurricane makes landfall. they say that the flooding could be catastrophic and this is a storm we could be talking about for at least another week. with hurricane harvey slowing gaining strength, kicking up winds, and already dumping heavy rain overnight millions in the path are bracing for the worst. >> this is the line to get gas absolute insanity over this hurricane. >> lines for gas is hours long. >> there is no more water, no more bread. >> residents stocking up and stores quickly selling out of the essentials. >> thank you for calling home depot, we are out of generators we are out of water and we are
out of sand. >> and they are air lifting infants from the neonatal unit out of the hospital as a precaution. >> i feel like people are not taking this storm seriously and not heeding the warning. >> voluntary and mandatory evacuations are in effect. these images from nasa show the size of the hurricane. it could stay inland for up to three days dumping up to three feet of rain in areas causing devastating floods and storm surges up to 12 feet. here is another concern, the entire country could be effected by this hurricane because one-third of the country's oil refineries are directly in the path of this storm. and until harvey passes some of them will be shut down and that

along the coastline as you press inland they are included in the warning as well. here is stormtracker 6 live double scan you see the center of circulation here. the center of hurricane harvey and all the rain effecting areas as far east as louisiana and moving into houston and as far south as browns mill texas. it continues to move to the north and west the rest of today and into tonight. north and west of corpus christi, we look at the path of hurricane harvey a category two storm right now, and this will more than likely strengthen to a category three storm overnight tonight before making landfall and the problem with this storm is that it sits and spins and meanders not just over the weekend but into the middle of next week. we are talking about torrential rain on the way for coastal sections of texas. what we can expect is 15 to 25 inches of rain and isolated sections 35 inches of rain. some folks are looking at a
year's worth of rain in just a few days and this could be the first major hurricane to hit the united states in 12 years, the last one was 2005 with hurricane wilma. and our weather is gorgeous here at home and details in the accuweather forecast coming up. can you get weather updates throughout the weekend including real time views from real tracker 6 live. a free down. and philadelphia police are trying to figure out what led to a shooting in german town section overnight a shoot that spark aid police chase and then a crash. two men are now hospitalized and one in critical condition, katherine scott has the latest on the case. >> reporter: this morning you could still see signs of the wild series of events overnight and vehicles being towed and neighbors assessing the damage all stemming from a double shooting in german town. >> i got off the bus and heard
shots and cops everywhere. >> shortly before 1:00 a.m. officers on patrol heard multiple gunshots coming from the east rittenhouse in german town. large shell casings littered the ground and they spotted an accura speeding from the scene and follow ed it and it crashed into a house. and and the passenger and driver started running and they were able to catch the 27-year-old driver, he had narcotics and two handguns in the car and under arrest. >> we have one of the shooters, or the shooter in custody. because that is the 27-year-old male who was seen fleeing from the scene. >> back on the scene at rittenhouse, officers were told that two men were shot and taken toinestein be separate vehicles. and a 32-year-old man shot in the leg who was stable.
it turns out the private auto the pickup truck that drove the 32-year-old was taken without the owner's permission it was parked where the shooting took place, you see the bullet holes and the neighbor had the engine running and was loading up the coal. they jumped in and drove the victim to the hospital. a different vehicle took the victim the rest are of the way at chew. >> we explained to him that the people that took the vehicle used it to transport a shooting victim to einstein hospital. >> the motive remains under investigation. channel 6 "action news" . in north philadelphia a woman is hospitalized in critical condition after police say she was shot during a home invasion robbery. it happened on the 3,000 block of north 23rd street at west indiana avenue at 1:30 this morning. two masked armed men entered the
home and demanded drugs. there were four people inside including the shooting victim in a third floor bedroom. one armed suspect chased her out of the home and shot her in the back. another woman who was inside of the home at the time tells "action news" that she thought this was a nightmare. >> we knew right away that she was shot and she started to scream help me, help me. >> officer as rived and spotted two men just blocks away that fitted the descriptions of the suspects. and philadelphia police say they arrested a man that hit and killed a man with the car and atemmed to destroy the evidence. he was involved in eye deadly hit and run on july 22nd on the schuylkill expressway in fairmount park. they say he fled the scene and conspired with the owner of the vehicle he was driving to set it on fire. and then the owner file aid
stolen vehicle report and he faces charges including involuntary manslaughter. president trump is threatening a government shut down if congress does not fund construction of the border wall. this comes as he continues to target top republican lawmakers with criticism. gloria rivera explains. >> reporter: president trump is putting pressure on congress. pay for the wall or face a shut down. this after promises that mexico will pay for the wall. >> the president is committed to making sure this gets done. >> he said in the campaign over and over again. >> once again the president is committed to making sure this happens and we'll push forward. >> getting the votes to increase spending and increasing the debt

coast so that westerly wind drys out the atmosphere for the rest of the afternoon. high temperature of 79 with the northwesterly wind. as we head into the weekend enjoy it it looks good both days and tomorrow 78 degrees and lots of sunshine and pleasant by the afternoon. stays bright on sunday with a high of 78 and the humidity stays low. and we are keeping a close eye on hurricane harvey. this is a category two storm winds sustained at 10 miles per hour. moving to the northwest at 10 miles per hour. this is expected to make landfall north of corpus christi across coastal locations as we look at the picture, hurricane harvey making landfall overnight tonight into tomorrow morning as a category three storm. the rain with this over the next five days looks to be torrential. corpus christi 15 inches of rain and close to two feet in houston
