nevada. oj simpson has been freed on paroled after spending nine years in prison for his part in an armed robbery in las vegas. >> reporter: oj simpson is a free man. the former nfl appear movie star was granted parole after serving nine years of his 33 year sensor for a 2000 robbery conviction in las vegas. he took memorandum memorabilia d was his personal property. he walked out a free man. he is getting very excited. his attorney said during his final days in prison he was removed from generally population and into a more secure area for his safety. >> he was basically alone, not completely isolated but didn't have that collegial attitude.

>> reporter: simpson said he posed no threat. the board agreed. >> it's been a conflict free life. >> reporter: simpson was famously found innocent in the brutal slaying of his ex-wife nicole brown and ron goldman. he was found liable for their deaths in a civil case. while we respect the nevada parole board's decision to free simpson it's difficult for us to know he will be a free man again. two 14-year-old boys are in the hospital after being shot in wilmington. gunfire hit them in the legs at 30th and market around 11:45 p.m. they were taken to christiana hospital for treatment. police are trying to figure out who fired the shots and what led

to the violence. 150 people have been shot in wilmington. that's the highest number in several years. in a rare move, it is been said the gun violence has been epidemic. wilmington has a new police chief trying to reduce violence in the city. we turn to puerto rico and the push to recover from the devastating punch from hurricane maria. this is the drone showing some of the buildings that were demolished by the storm. entire communities and rationed waters, many remain desperate for necessities and power and fuel. president trump plans to visit puerto rico on tuesday, from his new jersey golf club he took to twitter to respond to the federal response and fire back at critics to say the response is too slow. the governor of puerto rico offered a hopeful update.

president trump said it's important that nfl stand always for the playing of our national anthem, respect our flag and country. that tweet comes a week after the president called for nfl owners to fire players who engaged in such protests. last sunday more than 100 players sat knelt or raided their fists in defines of the national anthem. eagles safety malcom jenkins stood with his fist in the air during the game. >> nobody is protesting the flag or our military or our country what we're doing is using the platform we have to draw attention to issues in our community, jenkins says he hopes the protest will bring awareness to the people of color. >> there's much more to come on "action news" including philadelphia celebration of german pride.

the situation is there is dire with food and water still scarce. president trump travels to puerto rico on tuesday, he pledged to spare no effort to help the island recover, but he had pointed remarks toward the mayor of san juan one day after she criticized the trump's administrations response to hurricane. >> reporter: there's no unit at least on twitter to help the victims in storm ravaged puerto rico. president trump tweeted such poor leadership ability by the mayor and others in puerto rico, who can not get her workers to help. they want everything done for them when they should be helping with recovery. cruz may have set off president

trump by accusing the administration of deficiency. the cleanup will take a long time. i've been involved with many disasters this is the worst i've seen. >> reporter: cruz has been out in the san juan flooded streets, locating survivors and handing out supplies. fema has delivered 1.3 million meals. puerto rico is looking to have those cut off reached by the national guard. the president not letting up, tweeting again saturday night, results will speak louder than complaints by san juan mayor. the president and first lady are expected in puerto rico on tuesday, when asked, mayor cruz said she had no problem meeting with the president when he arrives. linda lopez, abc news new york. secretary of state rex
