meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning, it's 5:00 a.m. on this tuesday november 14th. we're following breaking news. >> a heavy police presence converges at a restaurant in mercer county, new jersey, where there are reports of a shooting. we will have a live report. >> plus, new this morning, a man is shot and killed in front of his home in the city's germantown section. some of the bullets go flying into a nearby home with people inside. >> hundreds gather to call for rap star and philadelphia native meek mill to be released from jail while his lawyer is taking legal action to try to get the judge in the case removed. >> but first up let's talk about your cold start to this tuesday. dave murphy has that karen rogers is taking a look at your commute. good morning. >> good morning. it's hard to get out of bed when it's so cold. >> yes. >> it's not just me, right. >> then you get in your car, you start it up and you put your windshield wiper on and it's like -- we'll get sunshine early. clouds marching from the west

and generally speaking we're going with sun mixing with clouds as we go through the day. it is cold to start out. we're at 32 degrees, the freezing mark in allentown, 38 reading, 34 trenton, just 36 degrees in both wilmington and philadelphia. 36 in millville and 39 in cape may. so, coats this morning. not a lot of wind out there. and chilly conditions obviously. 37 degrees by 7 o'clock. by noon, we get a little bit better. 47 degrees with sun and clouds. and by 3 o'clock, 51. that will be your high today before we zip back to 46 by 5 o'clock and by 7 o'clock, 42. if you're dressing the kids for the bus stop this morning you want to make sure you show 'em or dress 'em against the chill. you don't chill the kids, you dress them. 36 degrees -- karen was all over that. 36 degrees on the bus stop in philadelphia. some suburbs could go down to about 31 degrees. the only other issue we have out there is a possible situation with patchy fog but right now i'm not seeing a lot of this. the visibilities officially look good. a little bit of fog in through here, maybe lehigh valley, montgomery, chester, delaware

county but it doesn't look -- like a real big problem this morning. karen we've got a warmup relatively speaking over the next couple days. details coming from accuweather. >> chill those kids up like the weatherman told you to. let's look outside on the schuylkill expressway past montgomery drive. last time i showed you this we had a accident involving a tractor-trailer right there. we're watching live as the car left the scene and now the tractor-trailer is gone and traffic is moving fine. that's your eastbound traffic heading towards center city moving nicely right now. vine street expressway all lanes opened, all ramps opened. doesn't get better than that. no overnight construction. last night or the rest of the week. that's your westbound traffic heading towards the schuylkill. but a live look here at the schuylkill under 30th street. we had construction blocking the right lane in each direction as we look live right now we could see the crews have left. they put in some nice bright lights there which i've enjoyed. i don't know about you. westbound traffic here headed towards the vine street expressway and it's a little slow at the moment. westbound off-ramp to 30th street is blocked and that will be opened any minute but

you can see they're starting to let traffic by right now and that construction clearing out pretty nicely. here's a live look at 295 in bellmawr, camden county. overnight construction is cleared here. no delays. i wouldn't be surprised to see a few more accidents today, though. whenever you have a little ice on the windshield you could have a few slick spots on the road as well so be careful, matt. >> will do. thank you, karen. breaking right now investigators are on the scene of a shooting at a restaurant near a mall in lawrenceville, mercer county. police have closed off the restaurant and the parking lot as they search for evidence. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live at the scene of the applebee's near the quakerbridge mall. jeanette. >> reporter: well, matt, several hours after this shooting we're still seeing quite a bit of activity. take a live look here behind me. the mall or the applebee's, rather, is completely taped off. they've started to make the perimeter larger and larger throughout the several hours. most of the activity you'll see on the other side of the applebee's. now, right now, we are at quakerbridge mall. we're still waiting on additional details to be confirmed but we do know that police responded to reports of

a shooting around midnight here in the 3300 block of brunswick pike in lawrenceville. since then, the area has been taped off and officials have asked us to move farther and farther back. patrons who were inside at the time of the shooting were kept scene to be interviewed by police and one by one they were escorted to their cars once their interviews wrapped up. now, at this point we understand police are actively looking for a black suburban chevy that fled northbound on route one. one thing we're trying to confirm is where this shooting happened, whether it was inside or outside of the applebee's. we did see on that video there that the detectives were inside of the applebee's collecting some evidence, so we're waiting on that information but in the meantime, the investigation here continues. it seems like the activity here might be dying down. we have seen some people kind of one by one come and get their cars which were inside of the perimeter, so we'll let you know as soon as we get some new information out here. reporting live in lawrenceville, mercer county, jeanette reyes, channel6 "action news."

matt. >> thank you, jeanette. also breaking this morning a man died after being shot several times across the street from his home in the germantown section of the city. the gunfire erupted on the unit block of east garfield street at 2:00 a.m. police say the 41-year-old victim wall was outside of his car with the driver's side window shot out. investigators also say bullets went into a nearby home but no one inside was injured. no word on suspects or a motive. >> upper darby police are on a desperate hunt trying to stop whoever has been burglarizing homes in the drexel park section. so far detectives have tracked four burglaries within the last three weeks. and they do believe that they're all connected. none of the victims however were home when the burglars broke in. >> it seems to be escalating in a time frame but having the experience that i have, these individuals are desperate and they're going to go in regardless of whether somebody's in there. somebody's going to get hurt. >> police believe the burglars may be looking for items to sell for quick cash to feed an

opioid addiction. a man from mays landing has died trying to stop a domestic dispute in hamilton township. police have charged calvin wiggins with aggravated manslaughter. investigators say wiggins punched john charleston as they stood on the side of route 40. charlton hit his head on the ground and never regained consciousness dying over the weekend. >> a lawyer for meek mill plans to file paperwork requesting a new judge to preside over the case. hundreds of meek mill supporters gathered outside the criminal justice center calling for his release. a judge sentenced mill to two to four years in prison last week for probation violations stemming from a 2009 gun and drug conviction. celebrities including kevin hart dr. j malcolm jenkins and colin kaepernick have all rallied to his defense saying this is an example of the justice system unfairly targeting a successful black man. the federal jury deliberating the new jersey

senator bob menendez corruption case says it is deadlocked. the judge then sent them home last night to clear their heads in order for them to return this morning to try and reach a verdict. a juror was dismissed last week because of a vacation and predicted afterwards that the jury would be a hung jury. prosecutors say menendez accepted bribes from a florida eye doctor in exchange for political favors. >> it is 5:07 and today singing star and new jersey native dion warrick will receive the marion anderson award. she's being honored for her talent and humanitarian efforts. the five time grammy winner's career in music spans over 50 years. the award is named after the famous philadelphia opera singer marion anderson. >> may i say. >> yes. >> that's what friends are for. >> that's right. >> but do you know the way to san jose. >> but -- there's nobody over here . >> [laughter] >> congratulations dion. >> way to go. >> storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows you that

we are dry and as we take a look outside we do have some stars out early. there are some clouds sweeping in from the west and in general we're looking at a mix of sun and clouds today but i do think we'll start out on the bright side. it's also chilly. 32 degrees in allentown, freezing mark there. not much better in trenton at 34. 38 reading. 36 in philadelphia and wilmington and 39 in cape may. satellite shows you how the clouds have broken up a little bit from philadelphia to the coast. there's room for sunshine early but then these clouds out to the west will tend to filter in and overall we're going with a mix of clouds and some sun. some sun up in the lehigh valley today, cool, with a high of 49 degrees but all things considered better than yesterday. some sun at the shore, cool, with a high around 50 degrees there and in philadelphia where we were stuck in the mid 40's with all those clouds yesterday, we're going get some sun breaking through today and a better high of 51 degrees. also the winds aren't going to be all that strong so a jacket or a sweatshirt and you should be pretty good to go this

afternoon. overnight tonight we'll clear out. winds remaining very light but it is going to get cold again. 36 degrees in philadelphia and down to about 30 in the suburbs, very similar to as to what you're experiencing this morning. you can expect the same sort of thing tomorrow morning and then tomorrow afternoon with a little frontal boundary popping through and high pressure in place, we're expecting partly sunny skies. 53 degrees. a little bit better on the thermometer and it looks like this cold front is going to come in and trigger a shower but probably not until late at night. future tracker6 at 11 o'clock tomorrow night shows nothing but clouds. then we get overnight into thursday morning, and that's a weak front coming through so just a few showers around. most of this centered to the north although anybody could get a little sprinkle. it looks like this is pretty much done by the end of the morning rush hour or a little beyond. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, today's high is 51, some sun mixing with clouds, cool, but pretty nice. tomorrow partly sunny and nice, 53. with that shower overnight and into early thursday morning. and then breezy and milder on thursday with a high of 58 degrees. now as that front pulls away from us we'll see cooler air

injected into the region on friday. sunny but a high of 50. saturday another system kicks the clouds back in, a high of 57 and at some point we'll see a period of rain during the day. it will probably arrive during the afternoon. temple plays football at noon. there's a slight chance it holds off until the end of the game. i can't vouch for it that. timing still a bit iffy there. sunday, sunny and breezy for the philadelphia marathon. in the morning you'll be looking at dawn temperatures in the upper 30's, low 40's but we will in the afternoon after the race is done get to a pleasant enough high of 50 degrees. then monday brisk and chilly and that now looks to be the day where we are bottoming out. 45 degrees the high there. >> okay, thanks, david. time right now is 5:10. and former eagles coach chip kelly could be returning to college football. >> new this morning, outrage is growing online after video appears to show a groomer abusing a dog. details about where this happened. >> government regulators have just approved a new high tech pill. it is designed to help doctors know if their patients are

>> things can crop up at any moment. that person keeping their eyes on the road is karen rogers. >> and if it didn't happen, i wouldn't have a job. >> we would find something for you to do. >> schuylkill expressway moving fine. the fog really isn't a big deal. we're just keeping an eye on that. i think the colder air is a bigger deal because i expect there to be a few areas where it's a little bit slick. you'll want to be extra careful just to be prepared for that. this is the schuylkill expressway in king of prussia near 202. eastbound traffic headed towards gulph mills. it's early. construction has cleared. lanes are opened. no delays. we're full of good news on the schuylkill. upper moreland here we have construction that's closing county line road near limekiln pike. you can stick to bristol road as your alternate. we expect this to wrap up by 6 o'clock so within the hour we'll see a change in that one. let's head over to gloucester

county here on route 55 southbound near 322. they've got some milling work going on. so, not only do they have construction blocking a lane but maybe a little bumpy out there as well. expect some slowing on 55 southbound in that area. one thing i wanted to show you on the waze app i found someone talking about a minor accident in haverford on dermond road near bermont road. be careful of that as you're heading out. let's look at these temperatures. below freezing this morning in bethlehem. 29. 35 in quakertown and pottstown. just 35 in malvern, 36 in center city. even with the air temperature a little above freezing, you could still have ice on your windshield like i did in south jersey this morning. it's 32 in vineland, 31 in glassboro, 36 in dover, delaware. yesterday kind of miserable, stuck in the 40's. today at a little better, 51. and we're dry. matt and tam. >> i'll take it. thank you, karen. well, new this morning, video is being shared on social media showing what appears to be a dog groomer choking and slamming a dog on a table and just a warning

some may find this video disturbing. the video was posted by brianna brady a former employee at the groomers in venice, florida. the video shows the store's owner grabbing the dog by the neck and violently shaking it on friday. and brady days the sawing did nothing to provoke that kind of behavior. the dog thankfully wall not seriously injured. the sarasota county sheriff's office is investigating another case against the door's owner. >> chip kelly could be heading back to college football. yahoo sports says he's being vetted for the florida gators job. now, the former eagles coach has been working at espn as a studio analyst for both the nfl and the college football games. the eagles fired kelly during the 2015 season. the 49ers fired him back in january following a two and 14 campaign. the flyers are on the road again. they face minnesota tonight in the back half of a home-and-home. the sixers outlasted the clippers in los angeles last night to snap a two game skid.

it people, sort of you. see the light there, yeah. >> i see it. >> okay, anyway, police are not on hand at this point. this is the boulevard south of broad street, southbound traffic as you head towards fox street. a disabled vehicle hiding behind the trees and off to the side right there. in ewing township mercer county on i-95 construction is cleared but 175 is still closed near upper ferry road. you'll have to stick to 29, dave. >> all right, on the big board karen, we're cold this morning. 32 degrees in allentown, 34 in reading. still holding 36 in philadelphia and wilmington and 36 in millville. as we go through the day, it's going to be a chilly one on the el stop and the bus stop. 36 degrees by 7 o'clock. still 38 degrees by 8:00 a.m. we are looking for a high this afternoon of 51 degrees. that's pretty in tune with the model and then as we head into the evening rush, you're back into the mid 40's at 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. heading out of town to the airport perhaps, looks like all green aircraft, no major delays and right now we've got no sign of any fog or any other weather related issues in any of our big travel destinations, tam.
