>> ♪ >> "action news." delaware valley's leading news program with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning, it's 6:00 a.m. on this tuesday november 14th. we're following breaking news. >> a heavy police presence converges at a restaurant in mercer county new jersey where someone was shot. we'll have a live report. >> also new this morning, a man is shot and killed in front of his home in the city's germantown section. some of the bullets actually went flying into a nearby home with people inside. >> hundreds gathered to call for rap star and philadelphia native meek mill to be released from jail while his lawyer is taking legal action trying to get the judge in the case removed. >> but first up let's find out about this icy morning, cold i should say. dave murphy has more on that. karen rogers is helping you get to work and school. >> it is cold out there. in some spots you'll do a

little scraping on the windshield. >> i had to do that in delaware county. as we take a look we've got clouds sweeping in from the north and west. does look like we'll get a little bit of sunshine before the clouds overtake us. overall it's clouds mixing with sun today. a cold start though and certainly cold enough to get that frost on the windshield. 34 degrees in allentown, 35 in trenton. still holding 36 degrees in philadelphia. we're up to 37 in wilmington, 36 in millville and 38 in cape may. as we roll through the day, it's a better day than yesterday. we'll get some sun out at times. then it's going to be milder. 47 degrees by noon and by 3 o'clock, a high of 51 degrees. 46 by 5 o'clock, though, and by 7 o'clock back down to 42 degrees. if you're dressing the kids for the bus stop this morning, it does look like it's going to be a chilly one and winter coats probably not a bad idea. if your kids are the sorts who actually will agree to wear that. my kids never . >> [laughter] 36 degrees in philadelphia on the bus stop. then in some outlying rural areas 31 is not out of the question. a little bit below freezing as they're waiting for the bus

and we've been watching visibilities. down a little bit now in allentown and reading. there's the chance of some light patchy fog, not seeing a lot of that. if you do, though, you'll want to slow it down because that fog has water in it and sometimes it can freeze up on some freezing road surfaces. karen rogers, what you got in traffic early? >> we've got a few problems. some of them just popping up. this one just coming in right now. look at this accident scene. i'm not seeing any police on the scene. it just happened on the vine westbound approaching the schuylkill. so, an accident that just happened a minute ago and although off to the side, causing some slowing here. we also have the traffic lights not working in a couple of spots and that's creating problems right now. so, the schuylkill eastbound, the ramp from the schuylkill eastbound to the vine and 30th street those lights are on flash. that's creating a backup on the schuylkill and that's filling up to a backup on the vine so that westbound vine has been really jammed at times heading towards the schuylkill because of the delays on the schuylkill with those traffic lights not working as you exit off to get to 30th street. also another spot on the ramp from the schuylkill eastbound

to spring garden street, the traffic lights are on flash here as well. so another spot where we're seeing the traffic lights not working and you know that very quickly backs up the schuylkill and some of the other roads leading to it. so it's really creating problems out there. let's go live right now to the bridesburg section and look at something else. you see the traffic lights here kind of on flash, right? this is bridge street at tacony. be careful as you're traveling, traffic lights malfunctioning here. police are on scene. as i step aside i can see police helping to deal with that one so it's a mess out there with lots of lights not working, matt. >> thanks karen. breaking right now someone was shot at or near a restaurant in lawrenceville, mercer county. police quickly closed off the restaurant and the parking lot as they searched for the gunman. "action news" reporter jeanette reyes is live at the scene of the applebee's near the quakerbridge mall. jeanette. >> reporter: well, matt we just checked in with investigators here and they tell me they're going to be here for quite a long time. they pulled out their 360-degree camera, the crime scene camera was outside it's

now moved inside of the applebee's. you can see those flashing lights. that's where most of the activity is taking place here basically at the front. a lot of what we're seeing lately is basically what's been going on over the last few minutes. we do know police responded to reports of a shooting around midnight along the 3300 block of brunswick pike in lawrenceville. since then the area has been taped off and officials have asked us to move farther back. that was about an hour or so ago. patrons who were inside at the time of the shooting were kept on scene to be interviewed by police and one by one they were escorted to their cars. we did see detectives actually inside of the applebee's for quite some time and as i mentioned, they're currently inside again right now with that 360-degree camera taking in as much evidence as they can. we also know that they are actively searching for a black suburban chevy that fled northbound on route one shortly after the shooting happened. but again, we're trying to

confirm whether or not the shooting happened inside of the applebee's. we'll let you know as soon as we get those details but in the meantime the crime scene is really centered around the applebee's not causing much disturbance outside especially on the pike. reporting live jeanette reyes channel6 "action news." >> thank you jeanette. also breaking this morning a man died after being shot several times across the street from his home in the germantown section of the city. the gunfire erupted on the unit block of east garfield street at 2:00 a.m. police say the 41-year-old victim was outside of his car with the driver's side window shot out. investigators also say bullets went into a nearby home but no one inside was injured. no word on suspects or a motive. >> [inaudible] driver opened fire on another vehicle in a case of road rage in bucks county. two vehicles were exiting i-95 onto route 413 in bristol township yesterday evening. police say a man in a buick suv was screaming at a driver in a hyundai and then fired

two shots at the vehicle. fortunately the bullets didn't hit anyone and a full report on what happened in the shooting is coming up in our next half hour. upper darby police are on a hunt trying to stop whoever has been burglarizing homes in the drexel park section. so far detectives have tracked four burglaries within the last three weeks. they believe that they're all connected. none of the victims, at least at this point, have been home when it burglars have broken in. >> it seems to be escalating in a time frame but having the experience that i have, these individuals are desperate and they're going to go in there and god forbid somebody's in there. >> police believe the burglars may be looking for items to sell for quick cash to feed an opioid addiction. >> a lawyer for rapper meek mill plans on filing paperwork today to request a new judge to preside over his case. hundreds of mill supporters gathered in center city last night calling for his release.

the judge sentenced mill to two to four years in prison last week for probation violations stemming from a 2009 gun and drug conviction. celebrities including kevin hart dr. j malcolm jenkins and colin kaepernick have all rallied to his defense saying this is an example of the justice system unfairly targeting a successful blah black man. >> let's go to maribel aber talking about an interesting partnership between two retailers you don't usually put together, maribel. >> reporter: no, you don't, good morning, tam. lord and taylor and wal-mart teaming up. wal-mart executive said the company noticed customers searching for higher end items on its web site. the deal with lord and taylor will let wal-mart offer a premium shopping experience for fashion. the lord and taylor site is expected to go live next spring. quiet trading session as investors waited for signs of progress on the tax reform.

report in producer prices is due out later today. right now looks like futures are pointing to a mixed open. that's the latest in biz. back over to you. >> thank you maribel. the work week is getting a little warmer. >> a little better. chilly this morning. most ofmost of us are in the 30. we're dry this morning. as we take a look outside we're expecting some early sunshine coming in out of the east. there are some clouds welling up to the west of us and the two of those sky cover issues will sort of converge as we go through the morning but some early sunshine and then after that it's sort of a clouds and sun mix today. temperatures on the cold side as i mentioned. we are at 34 degrees up in allentown, 38 degrees in reading, 35 in trenton, 36 in philadelphia as you step out the door. 37 in wilmington and 36 in millville. notice how the winds are dropping down out of the north but they're not that strong. only about an eight or 9 miles per hour breeze in philadelphia. that's not too bad. as we take a look at the clouds, there they are getting thicker out to the west but you can see that we are fairly clear over to the east, so

early sunshine is a possibility before these clouds start to sweep in. then after that, i think it's a clouds and sun mix overall. lehigh valley we'll go with some sun, cool today, 49 degrees is the high. little better than yesterday, though. 50 degrees at the shore. some sun and cool there. and some sun mixing with clouds in philadelphia with a high of 51 degrees this afternoon. we only managed the mid 40's yesterday in the immediate region so this will represent a bit of an improvement. there's that north wind but again, not that strong, only about five to 10 miles per hour today. clearing and cold tonight, even less wind but dropping to 36 in philadelphia and some suburbs down to 30, which means tomorrow morning it's going the feel a lot like this morning as you get up. we'll get some sunshine banging in there but it will be cold with light winds and then tomorrow, partly sunny skies overall. high pressure starting to drift away from us a little bit and a front coming in from the west. warm front passes us and that will add a couple degrees to our high. we'll get up to 53 degrees tomorrow. and then at night, that front gets a little bit closer and future tracker6 shows us that

eventually there will be some rain. now, 11:30 wednesday night when cecily tynan is wrapping up her forecast tomorrow night it looks like we'll just be cloudy but then in the overnight hours and in toward when we're on the air at 4:30 thursday morning, yes, there could be a couple sprinkles and showers around. the steadiest stuff probably to the north and that fades on through and gets past us by the end of the morning rush hour in all likelihood. your exclusive accuweather 7-day day forecast, today some sun mixing with clouds, 51 degrees. better than yesterday. tomorrow partly sunny and nice, a high of 53. and if we get rain, it will be light and it will be overnight while you're sleeping, maybe some of you get up in time to see a little bit of that early in the morning on thursday. and then thursday, breezy and milder, a high of 58 degrees, some sun coming back. for friday, frontal boundary is beyond us and cooler air will settle in for a day with a high of just 50. for the coming weekend another system comes at us. warm front, cold front combination gives us cloudy skies and eventually we'll see some rain with a high of 57. right now the arrival time on the rain is a little up in the

independence blue cross. >> welcome back. >> time to come back and go over to karen who is watching a traffic situation. good morning. >> good morning, that's right. let's take a look at what's happening out here on the roads. 'cause we've got problems and jams. this is the vine street expressway. look how jammed the vine is. and you also see the flashing lights. we've got an accident on the vine as well. an accident on the vine street expressway although on the shoulder. we see penndot on the scene. this is westbound as you head towards the schuylkill expressway and the reason that this is so backed up right now on the vine westbound is because the lights are on flash on the schuylkill expressway at 30th street so it's creating a backup on the schuylkill a backup on the vine and within the backup you have an accident. one thing cascades into a number of traffic problems and

that's what we're seeing right now. the vine is backed up westbound, the schuylkill is backed up because the traffic lights are on flash. it's not the only spot they're on flash. on the ramp from the schuylkill eastbound to spring garden street traffic lights on flash there. two problems. as well as bridesburg on bridge street at tacony street. traffic lights not working here either. you have three separate spots, two on the schuylkill, one in bridesburg, traffic lights aren't working and it's creating backups there. let's check 95 at girard. problems here as well. disabled truck that just cleared. traffic is moving a little better here. slowing southbound from bridge street to girard. northbound is where we had that disabled truck that was off to the side but it has since cleared so moving better on i-95. but police told me about this accident in franconia township involving a trash truck and another vehicle. one person was injured and taken to the hospital. so, a terrible accident scene here but it's in the process of clearing out. telford pike continues to be blocked here harleysville road but you can stick to cowpath road as your alternate. crews are packing up and leaving the scene, though.

in williamstown gloucester county we had an accident on the black horse pike at main street and we could see a slick spot or two. temperatures hovering around the freezing mark. but even when the air temperature is above freezing you get a little slick spot on the roads or your car and that's why there's a little ice on your windshield this morning. 31 bethlehem, 35 pottstown, 36 in center city. it's a cold start to the day. you're sitting at the freezing mark in vineland and glassboro, a little bit above that in cinnaminson, barely above that in hammonton and browns browns mills and it's 33 in smyrna, tam. >> thank you, karen. new this morning video is being shared on social media showing what appears to be a dog groomer choking and slamming a dog on a table and a warning some may find this video disturbing. the video was posted by brianna brady a former groomer. the video shows the store owner grabbing the dog by the neck and violently shaking it on friday. brady says the dog did nothing to provoke this behavior. the dog was not seriously

injured. the sarasota sheriff's office is investigating another case against the store's owner. >> the makers of barbie offering their first doll to wear a hijab inspired by trailblazing olympic fencer eve mohammed. she became the first american olympian to compete wearing a hijab last year. the doll is part of the shero program which recognizes female pioneers and innovators. the new doll will be available starting next year. mohammed tweeted this has made her childhood dream come true. >> in today's tech bytes frustrated iphone users. >> a bug in their phone's new operating software is changing lower case i's to a's an question mark. apple says the problem can be fixed by adding a text replacement. the company says it will fix the problem in future updates. >> snapchat outtaj triggered a millennial melt down with users not being able to connect to the app for at least four hours. >> the unexplained outage triggered a flood of complaints on twitter.

chilly. 37 degrees by 7 o'clock. about 39 by 8 o'clock. the evening commute will be in the mid 40's for most of that but in between not bad. 51 degrees and i am expecting a mix of clouds with some sun today. if we are headed to the airport, no major delays is what we've been seeing with all green aircraft and no sign of any rain right now in any of our big travel destinations tam. >> thank you, david. going on to health check new medical guidelines are lowering the threshold for high blood pressure and it means more than half of american adults have the condition. the new standard is 130 over 80 and that change adds 30 million americans to the ranks of people with unhealthy levels. the doctors say only 2 percent of these newly added people will need medication. the rest will be urged to try healthier lifestyles at first. >> flyers on the road again facing minnesota tonight in the back half of a home-and-home. the sixers outlasted the clippers in los angeles last night to stop a two game skid.

fire on another vehicle, then speeds away. >> happening today, celebrating roy halladay. family, fans and former teammates gather in florida to remember the phillies ace. >> good morning everyone, 6:30 on this tuesday november 14th. david and karen, we're creeping towards that freezing mark, getting kind of close this morning. >> yeah, it's cold in some spots and you may need to scrape your windshield off a little bit as well. >> yeah, a bunch of us had had to do that this morning. get you to the weather center and we have cloud cover starting to sweep in from the west but we'll start out with sunshine the way things are looking and then it will be a clouds and sun mix as we go through the day. big story this morning is that temperature profile. shivering up in allentown at just 34 degrees, 35 trenton, 36 in philadelphia, 37 in wilmington and 36 in millville. everybody needs the coats this morning. there's not much wind out there. as we go into the afternoon, it's better than yesterday. we'll get a bit of sunshine breaking out with the clouds and it will be milder, 47 degrees by noon. by 3 o'clock, 51. that's going to be your high. by 7 o'clock down to 42.

if you're dressing the kids on the bus stop this morning obviously it is going to be a cold start. 36 degrees in philadelphia and some outlying rural airs could go down to 31 degrees. one other issue and that's visibility. not seeing a lot of fog out there but there is the possibility every now and then you see this little gray here up in lehigh county over towards berks county. we had some in montgomery county earlier. looks like that's gone. that's a concern if you see fog because we have temperatures down around the freezing mark and karen as you know there's water droplets in fog and it can freeze up on subfreezing surfaces. right now doesn't look like a big problem. >> we want to watch out for a slick spot or two and this accident causing problems. you see it right at the top of your screen. this is the vine westbound. look how jammed you are on the vine. this accident is off to the side partially blocking the right lane. police are on scene. we see the flashing lights. the westbound vine is jammed from broad street to the schuylkill. ahead of that we have traffic lights that aren't working on that ramp to 30th street.

you've got a backup and an accident within that as well. traffic lights not working in another spot. this is the schuylkill eastbound to entering guard street. traffic lights are on flash there as well as bridesburg at bridge street at tacony. three separate problems with traffic lights not working and you get backups. let's take you outside live on 95. look how slower southbound here heading towards center city. jammed already from cottman to girard. and you see a good shot of the roads. they're mostly dry with no problems. just want to watch anything that with a little bit leftover puddle from yesterday might be slick this morning. telford pike reopened after a serious accident that was involving a trash truck and another vehicle. there was an injury on the scene so that has just reopened and hancock street, a new accident here at pen brook avenue, tam. >> thank you, karen. and breaking right now, police in mercer county, new jersey, are searching for a gunman who shot a person inside an applebee's near a mall. lawrenceville. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, tam. we're going on nearly seven hours since this happened and the scene here is very much active. take a live look here behind me. that's the 360 camera that they're using to snap photos of the scene which really seems to be the entire parking lot as well as inside of the applebee's. so, they're still gathering evidence here. the whole area is taped off and has been for quite some time. we are at quakerbridge mall, we're still waiting on some additional details to be confirmed but we do know that police responded to reports of a shooting around midnight here along the 3300 block of brunswick pike in lawrenceville. since then, the area has been taped off and officials did ask us a couple of times to move farther back as they expanded the perimeter. patrons who were inside at the time of this shooting were kept on scene to be interviewed by police and one by one they were eventually escorted to their cars. we did see some of them who weren't able to get in their cars come back and retrieve them inside of the perimeter. atatat this point we understand

police are actively searching for a black suburban chevy that fled northbound on route one. other than that, police have not given much information but again, we do that understand they're in the middle of this investigation. we do expect some information within the next several hours. as soon as we get that, we'll make sure to pals pass it right along. reporting in mercerville, jeanette reyes channel6 "action news." >> two bullets pierced a vehicle during a road rage shooting in bucks county and if they went any higher, police say the people inside could have been seriously hurt. "action news" reporter katherine scott is live in the satellite center with more on the confrontation and that search for the shooter. katherine. >> reporter: matt, police say the victims were visibly shaken. the suspect pulled up next to the victims' building and yelled at them to roll down their window. they did and that's when the suspect pointed his gun at them. >> scared 'cause i'm on the road here all all the time. >> reporter: drivers in bristol stunned. a case of road rage shortly

bus and a motorcycle. i talked to police out there. there were injuries on the scene, someone from the motorcycle had to be -- is injured on the scene so unsure though whether or not there are any kids on the police. the police i talked said they didn't know yet. we're watching this in sharon hill delaware county chester pike at brainard boulevard. watch for that accident. we're hearing that person on the motorcycle was injured on that scene. let's take you over here to the vine street expressway, you can see that we're really jammed. we had an accident on the vine westbound within this backup here as you approach the schuylkill. the accident just cleared but westbound vine is still really slowing at this point from broad street to the schuylkill and that's because the traffic lights are malfunctioning at the end of that ramp to 30th street. creating problems. within those problems we had an accident and a backup. live on 42 approaching college drive. we have an accident here hearing there are injuries here as well. it's on the shoulder. it's a little hard to see but you can kind of see the flashing lights and the police over off onto the shoulder

detectives say after she left that first time, she drove back into the parking lot where she struck the worker and then hit the side of the building. >> alabama senate candidate roy moore says the newest accusation of sexual misconduct against him is absolutely false. a fifth woman beverly young nelson came forward with claims yesterday. she says she was 16 and waitressing at a local diner where moore was a regular in the 1970's. she says one day moore offered to drive her home but instead, took her to a deserted spot. >> i was alarmed and i immediately asked him what he was doing. and instead of answering my questions, mr. moore reached over and began groping me. >> i never did what she said i did. i don't even know the woman. i don't know anything about her. i don't even know where the restaurant is or was. >> nelson also showed her high school yearbook that moore had signed saying, ," to a sweeter more beautiful girl, i could not say merry christmas, love, roy moore, d.a."
