took firefighters over an hour to beat back the fire. it's friday night and the big story on "action news" tonight is a two-alarm blaze that devastated the delaware county community and the cause of the fire is a mystery. dann cuellar is there and you have the latest. >> that's right, jim. investigators are expected to return here tomorrow as they work to determine the cause of the fire. it heavily damaged an iconic home known to many in the heights. a family is left without a home. >> chopper 6hd is over the fire on the 200 block of south penn. thick smoke and flames engulf the home. >> it was terrible. >> neighbors say the fire was so intense they feared it would spread to their homes. >> my reaction was to grab my fire and run out of the house.
>> shane ferguson lives with his mother and grandmother. >> we were going to the hospital to visit my grandmother which we didn't make it to. our neighbors calls to tell us the house was in flames. >> one firefighter was treated for he's exhaustion. neighbors say it was once owned by a whole known candy maker. >> we used to hang out with her granddaughter. we used to ask for candy. >> that was a haunted house when we grew up. we went every halloween. >> the house is now unfit for habitation. >> two players on the way to a game saw the fire and brought out his two dogs and cat.
they are without a home for the season. >> it's not much holidays with my grandmother in the hospital. that's where we spend most of our time anymore. >> the house is boarded up as the cause is determined, the red cross is assisting the family with housing. live in clifton heights, channel6 "action news." jim? >> thank you, dan. firefighters cleared out tons of furniture to tackle a fire inside this home in brew more tonight. chopper 6 over hastings boulevard. it took crews more than 30 minutes to get the fire under control. investigators don't know how it started. >> two peek were on the way to work this afternoon when their cars collided. it happened on harrisburg school road and mountain view drive. one of the cars flipped on to
the roof. the investigators are not commenting on the state of the injured people. a man is in custody after a shooting in nicetown philadelphia this afternoon. police were called to north grant street just after 4:00. the 42-year-old victim was shot once in the back of the head. investigators are searching for the gunman. >> septa authorities are trying to identify the body of a man traveling on top of a train into jefferson station this morning. the victim believed to be between 16-20 was likely electrocuted by high tension wires above the roof of the train. it's not clear if the man committed suicide, or was trying to steal copper or was treses trespassing. >> investigators are trying to determine what caused this fire in sea island at 5:30 this
morning. three structures were damaged, a single family home and two duplexes. the search is on tonight for this man. police say he stole a donation jar from a south philadelphia store. it happened november 1st at porter street beverage on the 700 block of west porter. surveillance video cap youture e man paying for an item, grabbing the jar and walking out. >> it feels like memorial. cecily, strange happenings are going on. what is the latest from accuweather? >> we have been on a rollercoaster. wednesday, 57-degrees. yesterday, for thanksgiving, it was cold out there. the high 42. today, 51-degrees, a couple of
