>> reporter: it's about time they have their turn. >> reporter: adam and cecily go. it doesn't kick in until 1:00 p.m., and it stays with us until 9:00 p.m. we'll have a light event starting out in the northern suburbs starting out as freezing rain and sleet and light snow up through here. it builds down by the time kids get out of the school. we're expecting freezing rain and sleet mix in the center of the region. in the early evening hours and late afternoon this could start out as freezing rain down by the shore. we expect it to change to rain and it gets off the coast. it will be a gradual progression from north to south in the afternoon and evening. there you can see it to the west it's on its way. locally we might get sunshine and cloud cover thickens up quickly. temperatures are setting the table. 15 degrees in trenton. 16 in allentown.
17 in reading, 16 in wilmington, 19 in philadelphia and millville, 23 in cape may. a little bit of a breeze out there, too, once again the windchills are making it feel like the single digits across the region. not a steady consistent wind, but when it blows you'll feel it. when the presimm -- precipitation comes in it will be cold enough on roads and sidewalks to ice up a little bit. the winds running 8 to 16. that will keep the windchills in the low 20s even at the best of times. icy dicey stuff coming in for the evening commute. much milder stuffer in the seven day. >> reporter: be careful in the evening, this morning we have no weather-related issues dry on i-95, secondary roads are ice, you could slip or slide, be careful. we have a water main break another new one, west 54th at
arch street in west philadelphia. in west philadelphia we have fire crews on the scene with the terrible fire holly street at brown. they shut down the street with a lot of the emergency workers on the scene. stick to 42nd street as the alternate. vine street expressway, no problems, no closures, no construction, westbound traffic is heading toward the schuylkill expressway moving nicely, area bridges in good shape, as well. we have speed restrictions last week, but looking good on the ben. >> we're following breaking news, one person killed in a house fire in west philadelphia. our jeanette reyes has gotten to the scene and she has the latest on the fire, the 800 block of north holly street. let's go over to her. >> reporter: good morning, tam, we confirmed that a person died
in the fire that broke out a couple of hours ago, the scene is active. take a look behind me, this is the home where the fire broke out at 3:30 a.m. firefighters arrived in 3 minutes, the took 20 minutes to knock the fire down. here's the problem, there are no neighbors on the right side of the home or across the street or the other side of the home. so calls to firefighters really got there too late. in other words, the fire was well advanced by the time firefighters arrived here. they were behind and that person, we don't know whether it is a male or female, was dead by the time firefighters arrived on scene, take a listen. >> reporter: late notification is at an issue. we got here as rapidly as we could. the battalion did a valiant job of getting inside. but we suffered a tragedy. >> reporter: the firefighters having to battle with brutal
conditions it's cold and icy, icy ladders and fire hydrants and getting to the home can be difficult. at this point, the cause of the fire is still not known. again, one person is dead in a fire that broke out around 3:30 a.m. reporting live in west philadelphia, jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." matt. >> burst pipes have been causing problems across the area during the extended deep freeze in the cobbs creek section of philadelphia. a broken water main flooded the 5800 block of hazel avenue. the water froze into a sheet of ice blocking cars in place. >> it's ice across the there, i can't possibly myself move the car. >> icing it's dangerous, it's not good at all. >> water gushed out the door of the up ton theater on broad street in north philadelphia. i should say uptown theater and poured into a septa train station below. workers turned off the water and
fixed the break before it could freeze over. >> we have a wintry mix on the way, that could make a mess this afternoon, communities down the shore are not done dealing with the storm from last week. atlantic city schools are closed today. ventnor and margate are on a two hour delay. go to 6abc.com and check back in later this afternoon there might be information coming in about early dismissals because of the impending wintry mix. juniata park academy is closed frozen pipes are closing the school. report to capita park school instead. crews were called to the brandywine river in wilmington, they had to pull three civilians from the water in their attempts to save the dog efforts failed.
firefighters crawled on the ice and reunited the dog with the owner. the lieutenant from the wilmington firefighter explained why this was a difficult situation. >> just the hazards of being cold and wet and not knowing where they are at and unknown person approaching them. >> three person refused treatment and the dog is okay, as well. >> a teenager is recovering from a graze wound suffered in the city of chester. police were called to the 1100 block of white street. the 14-year-old suffered an injury to his right foot. he felt the bullet hit him as someone was driving by. the teen was taken to the hospital and released. no arrestses were made. a fire is under investigation in salem county, new jersey on perken town road in pedricktown.
no injuries reported. john morganelli is running for congress. he will seek the democratic nomination for the house seat seat in the 15th congressional district. charlie dent announced he will not be seeking re-election. super cold wintry mix coming in this afternoon, david what can you tell us. >> reporter: this afternoon will be icy anyway, especially on sidewalks and streets that have not been treated or haven't maintained that treatment for the last precipitation eventful weekend as we looking at storm tracker 6 live we're dry this morning. taking a look outside there's sky6 live hd. there's the airport, it's wintry and cold this morning, although it's dry for the morning commute. temperatures 19 degrees, the winds not all that strong at 8 miles per hour that's enough to give you a windchill of 9. once again as has been the case recently you have to bundle up a little bit as you head outside.
future tracker 6 shows you if you do see sunshine early it will give way to increasing clouds in the morning. by noon we'll be on the look out for the far northern western areas for the on set of light snow mixing with sleet and freezing rain in the northern and western suburbs. 3:00 p.m. this is pushing closer to i-95 and pushing past it into parts of south jersey. the model wants to suppress this to the west, it will be up in trenton by 3:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m., you can see how we have a line of mixed precipitation mainly sleet and freezing rain in philadelphia. a little bit of snow possible up north. even in south jersey by 6:00 p.m. we may not have warmed enough to prevent freezing rain. eventually we warm up, this changes to rain later in the evening hours, after 10:00 p.m., 11:00 p.m., it gets off the coast. what are we expecting out of this? up in the lehigh valley, northern and western suburbs,
light snow mixing with sleet and freezing rain, total accumulation not much only a coating to an inch, because we're talking about ice min that could dicey. philadelphia i-95, sleet and freezing rain. freezing rain is the worst kind of precipitation. you try to apply your brakes or put your foo surface, you will find it's freezing up. be careful this afternoon and evening as it comes through i-95. in south jersey you'll get ice, but it will change over to rain. temperatures will hover close to the freezing mark. if we get the 33-degree high it won't change things on the surface, because the surface temperatures have been so cold recently,, we expect this to adhere to surfaces that have not been treated. 29 in allentown. 29 in reading, 32 in wilmington, and trenton.
we could get up to 33 in philadelphia and 34 in cape may. that would be in the evening hours not so much during the day and early evening as the stuff is coming through. temperatures out to the west, 19 degrees in philadelphia. cincinnati, 34. in chicago which is more northerly, it's milder, 33. 62 in new orleans. this milder air is making its way toward us later in the week. the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast, 33 degrees is the high. we have the afternoon and evening wintry mix of light snow up north, but mainly sleet and freezing rain around the region for a time. you want to be careful especially on the areas that have not been treated or held on to the previous salting and brining we had from last week's snow. partly sunny and milder 41. sliding to 39 on wednesday. still, better days here, particularly in the afternoon. warm front comes through on thrust, we'll have periods of rain and drizzle. it will be milder high of 48.

see that on the ramps, as well. take it easy. vine street expressway both directions between 22nd street wednesday night to thursday night, 9 to 5:00 they will have construction. there's the wintry mix we're tracking that will plague you during the evening commute. morning commute is dry, but in the northern and western part of the city, you will see light snowfall. breaking it down, lehigh valley, northwest, light coating to an inch. philadelphia, i-95, freeze rain. i think freezing rain is the most dangerous because it looks wet. it will start off as freezing rain in south jersey, but change over to rain. >> president trump is making two stops in the south, he will
