good morning everyone it is had 30:00 a.m., thursday, january 11. we're following several breaking stories in south jersey. >> police come under fire in a barricade situation neighbors are sheltering in place right now. >> firefighters in the garden state battle a blaze that rips through a diner. rescuers head out on a local pond trying to save a dog stuck in the ice. >> along those lines it's nice to start above freezing, david and karen. >> reporter: i was driving in today, i was not slipping and
sliding. >> reporter: feeling better, don't go on icy ponds today they will break. we have a break out west and generally speaking we have clouds on the way. as we look to the west we have shower activity that will hold off until later tonight and overnight. 39 degrees in philadelphia. feels more comfortable than it has in a while. 36 in allentown. 36 in reading, 38 in trenton. 37 in dover, it is not as bad as you step outside. it gets better and better mainly cloudy, rain holding off until later tonight. we climb to 49 by 2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. we could be up to 51. and slipping to 48. i think we'll see the numbers go up again and get a high around midnight of 52 degrees. tomorrow is milder but we have rain on the way. karen rogers when i come back
we'll look at the rain progressing through the region on friday and see how quickly we can kick it out the door on saturday. we have a problem here, an accident investigation which is blocking our major highway in cherry hill, new jersey, route 38 eastbound is blocked approaching mall drive if you're in the area stick to church road or chapel avenue to get around that problem. in cinnaminson we have a water main break 130 northbound at riverton road, the right lane is blocked but traffic is getting by. outside live on the schuylkill expressway south street westbound traffic heading toward the vine. you see the cones set up. construction blocks the right lane here, all traffic is forced off at 30th street. westbound traffic is jamming because of that. overnight construction westbound on the schuylkill expressway should be open up. the left lane eastbound is blocked, as well. it will be cleared by 5:00 a.m. vine street expressway,
westbound, we had construction blocking the right lane, as well. you see the area of yellow of crews have picked up and left the scene there, the vine is looking better, matt. >> breaking right now, an armed person is holed up in a home in camden county. shots were fired at an armored rescue vehicle. neighbors were told to shelter in place, jeanette reyes is live in gloucester township with the very latest. >> reporter: good morning, matt, the barricade situation going into the 8th hour there are no signs of it ending anytime soon. take a live look behind timber creek regional high school this is the staging area there are quite a few emergency vehicles in fact one of the most that i have seen for a situation like this. here's what we know so far, i tell started at 9:00 p.m. when shots were fired on hamshire
road. the suspect has been hostile toward them firing shots at officers and armored vehicles. at this point there are no reports of injuries. police do not know if there is someone inside the house along with the suspect or if the person is injured. residents were asked to evacuate, but at this point they are told to shelter in place. take a listen to what the police chief had to say. >> armored rescue vehicle from the gloucester township police department has been struck with officers taking fire. >> she heard the first gunshots around 9:00. heard another series of gunshots after a few minutes after that and didn't stop hearing it until after 12:00, there were a lot of gunshots she heard. >> reporter: there's no word on what prompted the situation, police are not releasing much information even whether or not they are negotiating with the
man at this point because it is a fluid situation. we'll keep you posted as soon as we get an update. jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." >> breaking out of in camden county. fire tore through the diner in berlin country town diner on south white horse pike east broad street around midnight. no injuries were reported. university of pennsylvania will hold a support session at noon today for those mourning the loss of a student found dead. the candle light vigil was held for blain bernstein. bernstein was home on winter break and went to the park to meet someone on the night of january 2. that night burnstein went missing. his death is being investigated as a homicide. >> blaze was a brilliant
