damage assessments are ongoing more than a week after hurricane matthew came to the state. governor mccrory said with many areas still underwater it will be a while before we know the true impact matthew had. so far damages was estimated to be $1.5 billion. the cumberland county plans to meet tomorrow to get updates on the recovery efforts following hurricane matthew. the county's environmental health division will begin testing drinking water to make sure it is safe for residents. also they announced there is only one emergency shelter open now at westover recreation center in fayetteville. the north carolina national guard continues to pump water out of princeville. six pumps have redirected 40,000,000 gallons of water into the tar river. yesterday officials moved the

>> welcome back. the three men rent for north carolina's highest office face off tonight. >> wral is hosting the debate featuring the three candidates for governor. wral's mikaya thurmond joins us now with a preview. >> we are less than one month out from the election and that means there is a lot at stake. this is the last time the candidates will face each other in the debate stage. governor pat mccrory, roy cooper, and each other as 7 pm. governor mccrory is seeking a second term and cooper and lon cecil are his challengers. a poll shows cooper holding a narrow lead over governor mccrory. cooper has a 48% lead over the incumbent. wral news will host the debate and david crabtree with laura leslie serving as moderators.

it will also air at 11 pm on fox 50. a man is facing a murder charge in a case from last fall. u.s. marshals arrested tyrone hall in august. he is now charged with murder. deputies say he shot and killed joshua gutierrez in his home in hope mills last november. is second person was taken to the hospital and treated. a former currently in prison is requesting a new trial. by the reagan was convicted in 2004. danielle reagan survived. his mistress linda lee pulled the trigger. he also said she had an inappropriate relationship with the former police chief. he also claims the crime scene was not tested for fingerprints or dna with faulty testing by the state crime lab.

a hearing. a raleigh daycare is an investigation. the director of apple tree daycare says a worker was caught on surveillance abusing a 1-year-old child. according to the director the mother of the child said the daycare did not do enough. the teacher was allowed back in the classafter the video was discovered and other parents were never notified. >> had i not seen the tape, i that women take my baby and she threw him into a bookcase. >> we received a statement from apple tree daycare addressing the fact parents were not notified and the teacher was allowed to return to a class. they set the employee involved was never left alone with the children. and notifying the parents is a difficult task.

lost in the flooding in wayne county. gilbert mcneil's home had several inches of water inside. the house was passed down from his mother who died several years ago. mcneil is determined to rebuild and kbhome in the family. >> take all of our money and get together is what we are going to do. >> the home also flooded in 1999. mcneil says the flooding >> so many people are rebuilding or just beginning to figure out how to get their lives back together. >> the good thing right now is we are not badly more rain. >> it is going to feel well above normal. i would like to say summerlike but it will be late summer. here is our apex skycam.

morning commute. with 14 minutes through garner and a lover from 440 out to wade avenue. things are looking okay from wade until 540. we also have an accident on the left lane blocked on us-1 northbound with big delays beginning around the nc-540 interchange. some good news on the east side accident around 4:40 starting to clear with heavy delays coming back. we are looking at dry conditions around here with plenty of sunshine and a look at our rdu skycam. the trend continues through thursday taking a look at what is going on across our area and temperatures warm up nicely.
