learning more about the person who was elected in october for not paying rent. last august he served 30 days in jail. police say he got into a struggle on wednesday. they say he was armed with a knife. and another raleigh police officer has been. officer chandler is recoveng officer chandler and others involved are on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation. a mother is dead and her son is in the hospital after they were hit by a car walking to a bus stop. maria suarez was hit by a kia sedan off of i-40 and highway to 10 -- highway 210. the

not cite her for driving without a license because it happened on a public street. police need your help identifying a woman hit and killed in fayetteville. it happened yesterday afternoon. police say the victim is an asian woman and she was wearing jeans. if you she is, please call the fayetteville police. they are also investigating a sh the hospital. someone fired shots just before 8:00 last night. him and was hit by the gunfire and taken to the hospital. his name has not been released. so far no arrests. the death toll from the wildfires have risen to 11. newly 5000 customers are so without power in sevier county. 400 wildfires have burned

a man is behind bars accused of sitting two wildfires in our state. federal prosecutors and this man admitted setting a fire october 27 in the manahan a national were forced -- manahan lassen national forest. he is also accused of setting a second wildfire on jones creek road. he has a hearing set for monday. there's been more progress in western north more fires nearly 100% contained. through more fires in western north carolina are not yet contained. north carolina central university will hold a celebration of light tribute. the funeral is set for tomorrow and she was the first permanent chancellor at the school. it

it will be just fine with 33 degrees now and i could smart to start -- a cold start in many places. the dew points is 30 with 28 in henderson and 29 in south hill and 33 in chapel hill. 29 in sanford with 30 in southern pines. so here is a look at the satellite and radar. plenty of sun high pressure keeping us nice and a drive. the high pressure system rotates clockwise, so it will be on the cool side. we are tracking the next system getting wound up in texas. it is just developing right now but it will grab a hold of a lot of this moisture and start spreading in across the south. it starts to really bring some nice rain on sunday to parts of mississippi and alabama and

tuesday before we see much rain. it may not be that particular system but another system developing across the coast to help spread this for monday and tuesday. hearest futurecast looking nice and bright for us today and tomorrow as a matter of fact. there is 7 a.m. on saturday as the precipitation gets closer to us, we will see the clouds thickening up on sa rain in the northern mountains. the mouse that we will see will be fairly light. we will give it a 30% chance. and then we have this low developing offshore that will spread more moisture in during the day on monday and tuesday as well. as a matter of fact, for next week rain monday and tuesday and rain thursday. eventually we should start to

we have breaking news in raleigh. a shooting at a hotel near crabtree valley mall expect this happened at americas best value inn and emmy victor is gathering information. what can you tell us about this, emmy ? >> reporter: renee and lena, since we last spoke i can't tell you the ccbi have arrived. this is a hopping at americas best value inn. and with police gathering information and coming back outside. i have seen a number of guests who have checked in also trying to figure out exactly what happened in the same thing goes for the whole tim gordon inn with people trying to figure out what is going on. this area is contained and caution tape surrounds.

allegations. that protests alleges a few people have signed 150 absentee ballots. the unc board of governors will meet in chapel hill. they will speak about the establishment of laboratory schools and that is something lawmakers called for this summer. they are essentially charter schools to be run by 8 unc system campuses to provide a setting to explore new educational techniques and training new teachers. board members will also talk about the cost of tuition. the board is trying to keep them from exceeding the rate of inflation. hurricane matthew recovery committee hold its final meeting today in one of the hardest hit cities. the committee will hear from residence at lamar community college in kinston. it is from 10 a.m. until noon. last night the people at princeville learn more about

cloud up with the rain edging into our region on sunday and i will show you what will happen with the temperatures. here is today. temperatures are certain the cooler than in the last few days getting into the slightly cool air with temperatures pretty close to normal and that is true for much of the weekend. we have some precipitation coming up through sunday at of the gulf of mexico. temperatures will be on the mi tuesday and wednesday. then we have this band of cold air starting to drop out of canada into the east and we get into a little piece of that. not the coldest, but it looks like it'll be pretty cold friday through sunday. looking at some pretty cold temperatures by thursday but friday through sunday into next week. mike and amy will be talking

with normal in the upper 50s. but it should be a nice night heading out to the american tobacco campus tower lighting. lots of music and excitement kicking off at 6 pm. a nice day on saturday for winterfest in downtown raleigh with mid and upper 40s. 53 for the high temperature and sunday the clouds will thicken with the amount 30% chance late in the day. do not be surprise if there is a few sprinkles around sunday. a better chance of rain on tuesday and we should see a decent amount of rain leaking at up to 2 inches with an half an inch up near the virginia line. we certainly need it.

starting sunday. brian is here with a mess on the roads. big delays this morning with 7:48 and a crash blocking at least part of the southbound side of the freeway around alston avenue. you can see the traffic getting by very, very slowly. those delays heading downtown are growing looking at 15 minutes from mangum street it will be slow heading from swift avenue on the southbound side of the durham freeway. you might consider using 55 eastbound as a good alternate route also some heavy traffic on the northbound side of the freeway just because of congestion slowdowns between the cornwallis road area up toward downtown durham.

have a report of a crash into holly springs at logging drive also apex with heavy delays on the westbound side leaving holly springs this morning. on the north side of raleigh we have an accident on six forks road and it is pretty minor. and earlier accident on glenwood avenue noumea outdrive -- ne seeing some slowdowns around the weight avenue interchange -- wade avenue interchange. december is here and that probably means most of your weekends are filled with parties and get-togethers. >> we've some great ideas and we start with a classic.
