bracing. sunday night, that street literally became a river. crews had to use a small boat to rescue a man from his car. flooding has become so common that some homeowners have spent thousands to keep the water out. >> when the water starts to overflow it comes into the sump pump here and gets pumped out. >> we put a back preventer in inside. >> the pipes in the area are too old and too small to handle the huge flow of water but they are looking into short-term solutions. 4:31. time for a look at the forecast. flooding in the area. sprinkles this morning, too. >> sprinkles and full out showers in other areas. of course, that area around bloomingdale could get more heavy rain today. you've got kids going back to school in northern virginia. you've got traffic and now the weather, too. throughout the area, some rain is falling that i think is going to continue right into that 7:00, 8:00 hour. 76, the temperature. high dew point temperature right

in prison. the coast guard is search for a missing boater in married. two people fell from a sailboat in the chesapeake bay, 12 miles north of annapolis. the crew was able to rescue the woman but they lost sight of the man. coast guard says he's 27 years old and a member of the boat crew. a prince george's family recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning. when everyone in the house woke up yesterday with headaches and naus is a the parns realized those are symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning and they called 911. two adults and three children were taken to baltimore for possible treatment in a hyper barrick chamber. they are expected to be okay. the scramble to save hundreds of homes this morning as the recovery from isaac continues along the gulf coast. plus, hollywood is mourning the loss of a big presence on the big screen. you may need to little extra time getting to work today thanks tort rain we're seeing right now.

the game is over. >> the nationals will have a withining season for the first time since moving to washington. they beat the cubs 2-1 yesterday. it was their 82nd win of the season. the nats have the best record in the baseball. they still lead the braves 6 1/2 games in the national league east.

light showers stuck around our area. i think after the 5:00 hour. for the afternoon, mostly cloudy. occasional rain which will be heavy at times. could be even getting a thunderstorm or two in here during the late evening. temperatures topping out to about 85 degrees today. in fact, the next two days our temperatures will be in the mid and upper 80s. 60% chance of rain for today. a 70% chance for tomorrow because tomorrow that weather front comes in. a strong weather front. we'll even have showers lingering on thursday where we'll get a little bit more sunshine and top out around 90 to 91 degrees. right now friday looks like a dry day for us. unfortunately, the weekend, wet, coming up in a couple of minutes. right now, traffic. >> right now i'm watching the roads for you if you're traveling in northwest. keep in mind beach drive that road is closed because of a downed tree. joyce road.

this morning more than 100,000 people remain without power nearly a week after hurricane isaac hit the gulf coast. crews restore electricity in louisiana, mississippi, and arkansas, we've learned an

eighth person died in the storm. authorities found the 90-year-old man dead in his home near new orleans. the home didn't have power. that man may have died from the heat. president obama you see here toured the damage near new orleans. he promised federal aid for survivors. the damage from isaac could total more than $2 billion. this morning one mississippi community is keeping a close eye on a troubled dam holding back flood waters from isaac. officials have been pumping water from the swollen lake. they feel water may breach the earthened dam there. they may evacuate 50,000 people downstream from the dam. the governor says it's time to replace it. >> we're going to save this dam, we got to keep it from busted. but what we've got to do is redo this dam. it broke in 1984. it broke in 1945. we've got to replace this dam and get it to where we won't be out here again next year or the year after. >> officials plan to release more water to drop the water

"no easy day" is a firsthand account of first navy s.e.a.l. who took part in those operations. the book is already dominating headlines because it contradicts the original account of the raid by the pentagon. in a new e-book claims bad blood between them and his members encouraged him to write the memoir. in the day ahead family and friends will pay their final respects to a navy s.e.a.l. killed in afghanistan. a you viewing will be held today at the funeral home in his hometown of edgewater. many people lined the streets as his body was taken to the funeral home. they will have a burial at arlington national cemetery. he leaves behind a wife and parents. this morning wood is mourning the delts of marketer

michael clarke duncan. he's best known for his oscar nominated role in "the green mile." he died yesterday morning in los angeles. he suffered a heart attack in july. other than "the green mile" duncan's resume has a string of blockbusters like "armageddon," "talladega knignights." michael clarke duncan was just 54 years old. we are to we log a developing story in southern california. firefighters there trying to put out a wildfire at the angeles national forest. northeast of los angeles. about 300 firefighters have been battling the flames on the ground there while half a dozen helicopters have been dropping water. the fire has burned more than 4,000 acres and is only about 5% contained. that fire broke out on sunday near a camp ground forcing thousands of people to evacuate during the busy labor day weekend. 4:47. prince george's county police are asking for your help to find a robbery suspect. look at this surveillance photo.

police say this man robbed a suntrust bank along riverdale road on friday. police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest. thousands of voters in northern virginia will head to the polls today to decide who will represent them in the house of delegates. the special election is for virginia's 45th district which comprises parts of alexandria. fairfax county and arlington county. democrat rob krupicka is running against tim mcghee and libertarian justin malkin. rising water bills could be on the way for residents in prince george's and montgomery counties. according to the "washington examer" the washington suburban sanitary commission needs $3 billion for construction projects over the next six years. the money will be used to update the aging system which is more than 5,000 miles of water main that is at least 50 years old. wssc is considering charging customers for how much water they use to cover those costs.
