"unpresidented." yeah. [ laughter ] ironically, unpresidented is what half the country wishes would happen to trump. but -- that's not a word. [ cheers and applause ] not a word. >> steve: whoa, hey ho! >> jimmy: well, today, the electoral college officially cast its votes for president. and bill clinton actually teared up after voting for hillary, saying that he's never cast a vote he's been prouder of. then he said, "except for that wet t-shirt contest i judged in cancun. [ laughter and applause ] that was hard. that was a hard decision." >> steve: rock the vote. >> jimmy: and president obama just held the final news conference of his presidency and at the end, obama wished everyone a mele kalikimaka,

for merry christmas. mele kalikimaka is also what donald trump tweeted when he was just trying to spell merry christmas. "merry christmas whatever." [ light laughter ] what? it does. it was in it. it counts. this is kind of funny. i saw that the white house staff pranked president obama by having a snowman photo bomb him in the oval office. this is real. take a look at this. [ laughter ] that's a pretty good snowman. obama said the snowman kind of reminds him of trump. he's white, a little cold-hearted, and prone to meltdowns. [ cheers ] giant. get this. i heard that some of the stars of the movie complained because one of the other actors, who played a 7 foot tall droid, had to wear stilts and his crotch ended up in their faces all the time. then referees in the nba were like, "eh, you get used to it." [ laughter and applause ] let's get to some sports. jacksonville jaguars coach gus bradley was fired yesterday after the team lost nine games in a row. or as the cleveland browns put it, "so he's available? yes. [ laughter and applause ] come on, it's something." and check this out. nbc is launching an all-olympic channel next year. it will feature the summer games, the winter games, and two years of commercials in between. and finally, this is crazy. i read that the biggest dog in the world lives in the u.k. and on its hind legs stands at 7'6" tall. when asked if he likes being taken for a walk, his owner said, "i love it." there you go. we have a great show tonight. give it up for the roots, everybody! she turned 99, and her granddaughter, i think, tracked me down to see if i could wish her a happy birthday or come see her for her birthday. she lives in atlanta. so, i called her on her birthday. you know, i said, happy birthday. and she gave me my first library card when i was seven. >> jimmy: is that right? [ audience aws ] >> and she -- yeah. right. exactly. and she remembered me. and she said, "you'd get the little skinny books." i said, "oh, that was me." [ laughter ] with a lot of pictures. >> jimmy: got to start somewhere. >> so she lives in atlanta. and i said, you know what? i have to come to atlanta because i'm the national spokesperson for the boys and girls club so i had a thing i had to do in atlanta.

so, i went by to see her, and she makes all these scarves. like, a lot of them. >> jimmy: really? [ laughter ] >> yeah, she makes scarves for everybody. so she gave me a scarf, and we just -- me and like a hundred 90-year-olds just kicked it all afternoon. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i just thought that was a cool thing to do. >> yeah, it's cool. no, that's nice. isn't that sweet? ms. connie. >> jimmy: ms. connie, if you're watching, merry christmas and happy new year from denzel and i. [ cheers and applause ] >> so, you know, afterwards, i talked to all the people that work there. and what i said to them is that, you know, the smallest gesture, you never know who you affect. this woman helped introduce me to books, and 50 whatever years later -- bang. so, you never know. a kind word, a positive, uplifting word can go a a lifetime. >> jimmy: absolutely. that's all so great. "fences" was -- it's just -- every single actor in this movie is unbelievable. >> it is. i'm telling you, the best piece of material i've worked on in my career. now, short of "a soldier's play" which won the pulitzer prize too, became "a soldier's story" back in the '80s. this is the best thing i've ever worked on. >> jimmy: basically, you're just getting into -- it's a a good character study because every single person is interesting. >> and viola davis, i'm telling you, when you see it -- [ cheers and applause ]

oh, it's going to be rough on the men. >> jimmy: it really is. >> gonna be rough on the men. >> jimmy: i got goose bumps just thinking about her. there's a couple scenes in general. she just goes for it and i go, i don't know how you could even do that. did you shoot it in pittsburgh? >> we shot in pittsburgh. we went -- >> jimmy: what neighborhood? that's beautiful. >> it's the hill district, where august wilson grew up. august wilson is the playwright and wrote the screen play and he's one of the -- i call, five greatest playwrights in american history. he really is. you know. so we wanted to go -- i wanted it to be where it was. in the neighborhood. the neighborhood is a character and there were some characters in the neighborhood too. >> jimmy: oh, really. >> oh man. we had a guy, mr. greenly, lived right behind our house. so mr. greenly can't hear that well. so he goes, "how you doing, denzel, you want some coffee?" i said, no, sir. "huh?" no, sir. "huh?" i said, no, sir, no coffee. "all right, go on, make the movie. go on." [ laughter ] he'd say, like, i'm going to go inside.
