good morning, i'm phillip mena. >> i'm gigi stone woods in for frances. this morning the president of the united states is looking to reshape the country's immigration system offering a deal to the democrats on the nation's 800,000 dreamers in exchange for funding to fulfill a crucial campaign promise. building the border wall. >> with mr. trump sending congress a number of legislative priorities that seek to alter and revamp the way immigration works in the united states, and while the white house sees the items as a wish list of sorts, to democrats those priorities seem more like a set of demands and liberals are already sounding off. let's go over to nbc's tracie potts for more on the story. tracy, what is the president asking for? >> reporter: he's asking first of all that his border wall be fully funded and built in exchange for legally keeping these dreamers here. the aclu overnight saying that is a nonstarter. take a look at some of the other demands that the white house is making to make this daca fix happen. increasing border

expanding immigrants who can be dee porlted without going before a judge. they want to remove protections for unaccompanied minor immigrants. so, children who come across the border without their parents. and there's more. allowing local and state police to investigate immigration more broadly. they want to limit visas to spouses and family members of immigrants. specifically minor children. that's an issue that's been tied up in the courts. and, of course, the big one, they want to fund that southern border wall. already reaction this morning from top democrats here, including nancy pelosi and chuck schumer, the top democrats on the senate and house side saying that the administration can't be serious that they are about compromising with helping the dreamers if they begin with the list that is an anathema to the dreamers. going on to say that the president is not making a good faith effort here to do so. so, this really sets up a big fight between the president and co

to protect those dreamers if at all. >> all right. to be continued, tracee, thank you. >> in politics, professional sports, once more this weekend after vice-president and former indiana governor mike spence attended a colts-49ers game this weekend only to turn around after players took a knee during the national anthem. and while some are calling the move a stunt, the vp himself said he didn't want to dignify the demonstration. nbc's morgan radford has more. >> reporter: vice-president mike pence greeted fans in indianapolis. the colts facing off against the 49ers. when the anthem played, more than a dozen players took a knee. ♪ ♪ >> reporter: pence stood with his hand over his heart and left as soon as the star-spangled banner ended. >> makes no sense to me. it is ridiculous what he did. it just doesn't make sense. he doesn't have any reason to do that. >> reporter: t

history, mourners gathered in las vegas holding a candle light vigil in honor of the dozens of people killed. the city dimmed its iconic lights for 11 minutes honoring both victims and heroes from the tragic event. 11 signifies the number of minutes shooter stephen paddock was firing on the crowd. now nbc's steve patterson has more on how some survivors are struggling in the massacre's aftermath. >> you know, gigi, there are so many families emotionally impacted by what happened now one week ago, but emotion is not all they are dealing with. funerals and medical costs are on top moving forward. we spoke to those families and people on the ground here trying to make a difference. for the families forever changed by those 11 minutes, it's the worst night of their lives. 58 lives taken and for many of the hundreds injured, another nightmare is just getting started. nicole's mother diane was trampled that night trying to escape. she lost feeling in her left leg. >> it's just really hard to see

like be so upset over it and so sad. >> reporter: now intensive physical therapy so she can get back home to california. but with no health insurance, she says the cost will be astronomical. >> it's going to be a lot of money. >> reporter: to help raise money diane's family set up a gofundme page. it is one of hundreds of crowd funding sites established in the wake of the shooting asking for donations. the most popular called the las vegas victim fund has raised more than $10 million. las vegas county commission chair steve set it up just hours after the shooting. we asked with so many affected how the money will be distributed. there are so many families affected. you set up this gofundme page. how do people get that money? >> what we'd like to do hopefully is get everybody at the end, put a single fund together and then distribute the money out of that in the most fair and equitable basis. >> it's really hard to not be able to take her home with

leading the news this morning, local officials are reacting to the latest protest in charlottesville. led by white nationalist richard spencer, a group of 40 to 50 people gathered in front of a tarp covered robert e. lee statue saturday night. they carried tiki torches and said you will not replace us. police said it lasted 10 minutes and no disorders occurred. the next morning the charlottesville city council criticized the event and will have a kristen szeization creat. part of the plan could include giving police more intelligence gathering powers to monitor white nationalist groups. >> dove is apologizing after posting racially insensitive ad on
