today former virginia governor find out whether or not he has to report to prison this week. and we )re learning more about a police standoff that left a police dog dead and put a man in the hospital. good afternoon. i m kristen crowley. and i m blaine stewart. we )re following a developing story out of norfolk-- where a police dog...a member of the force... was shot dead-- and the man who did it - was shot by norfolk police. newschannel threes stefania okolie has been following the story all morning and joins us live with the latest- police have been at that mans home here on land street for find out how many hours? dozens of hours. please surrender ) jean strickland says while his nieghbor had his home surrounded by police -he was trying to convince him to surrender to the police. this was happening as police were doing some negotiating of their with the man - who they say was armed. strickland explains why the man says he could not surrender 12:56:37:26- and what did he say to you, ... he knew it wasnt going to end well and he said in his position as a gun salesman .. his life is over now strickland tells us the man sold guns and did weapons training for a living. it all started around 6 sunday evening as a domestic situation between the man and his wife. when police got to the home, the woman was out, but they say the man was not. police say after 7 hours of trying to negotiate - the man came out—but not without his gun. he was told to drop his weapon multiple times but refused to according to police-- he instead, the shot the k-nine police dog and thats when police say they fired at him.

let s send things over now to meteorologist myles henderson to find out just how cold it s going to be. live vipir forecast sunny but colder... temperatures will start just above the freezing point for most areas this morning. expect plenty of sunshine today with highs in the mid 40s. it will still be windy this morning but not as strong as yesterday and winds should gradually relax through the day. temperatures will slip into the upper 20s by tuesday morning but highs will climb into the low 50s. a quick moving cold front will swing through tuesday night. there will not be a lot of moisture with this front but it may be just enough to trigger a few isolated rain or even snow showers tuesday night as temperatures fall.

police are investigating a shooting that put one person in the hospital. it happened yesterday afternoon around three on debry street. police say they found 15 shell casings in front of two homes. during the investigation-- police got a call about a 22-year- old who arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. the victim said he was heard gunshots-- and then he one hit him. right now police do not have a time. this shooting-- take action and call elizabeth city police. former virginia governor bob or not he has to report to this week. the u-s supreme court is expected to announce if they will hear his appeal on his federal corruption conviction. back in 20-14, a jury

wife maureen accepted more than 170- thousand dollars in gifts and loans. if the high court decides not to hear his case-- mcdonnell would begin serving his two year prison sentence immediately. jesse matthew junior-- the man accused of capital murder in the death of u-v-a student hannah graham -- is due in an albemarle courtroom. the hearing will include testimony from 14 members of law enforcement. they were supposed to testify back in november, but the hearing was postponed until today. matthew is set to go on graham on july fifth. convicted, he could face the death penalty. three people are recovering today after being shot last hampton. it happened around 7-30 at that )s on when officers got to the scene -- they found 2 men and a woman with gunshot wounds. all three were taken to the hospital -- but are expected to be okay. right now police say they do not have a suspect. be sure to stay with newschannel three and on w- t-k-r dot-com for updates.

the man accused of killing someone during a bar fight in chesapeake will spend more than a decade in prison. this is video where police say 37 year old ronnie cisko got into a fight with chuck setchel. it happened in december of 20-14 at zino )s restaurant on old george washington highway. setchels fiance told newschannel 3 that the fight had escalated during a football game. the two men were cheering for different teams and had reportedly been making jabs at each other before turning physical. police say setchel died from his injuries. cisko will serve ten years for manslaughter and four years for violating his probation. new at noon- one new york man gave away the shirt off his back. see the heartwarming moment caught on camera. radios are taking over-- well maybe

taking action for your health today at noon campbell soup will become the first major company to start g-m-o labeling. the worlds largest soup maker says it supports a mandatory labeling standard for products with genetically modified ingredients. they )re also withdrawing support from efforts move into transparency. many industry groups have sought to make the labeling voluntary. about three- quarters of campbell )s products contain g-m-o-s. a new study says even though less teens are smoking, second hand smoking remains a big problem. teens surveyed say they were exposed in places such as cars, outside of school zones, home and in public. the u-s surgeon general says the report suggests there s

now this is a bizarre concept-- can your radio be used to take control over your car? federal investigators say yes, at least in one case. the national highway traffic safety administration says that fiat chrysler radios have a security flaw that allowed hackers to take control of a jeep last year. after the hacking became public, the n-h-t- s-a launched a five-month investigation. they found that the problem was only with the fiat chrysler models. the federal agency says a recall of one- point-four million cars last summer closed the security hole. a couple gets into a scary accident-- see the after picture

an italian news agency says she was strangled-- but officials say they )re still waiting for an autopsy to confirm how she died. singer david bowie has died following a battle with cancer. the news was posted on his official web site and social media pages. bowie "died peacefully" sunday "surrounded by his family and friends" after an 18-month battle. bowie s career spanned more than four decades. he first rose to fame in the 60 )s, and inspired the "glam rock" movement of the 70 s before reinventing himself several times bowie had just released his 25-th album "blackstar" on friday, his birthday. he was 69 years old. the notorious mexican drug lord joaquin guzman is facing extradition to the united states. the fugitive - better known as "el chapo" -- was recaptured on friday. they say he was hiding in this house -- but managed to run away before being stopped on

el chapo )s multi- billion dollar cartel has been a major supplier of illegal drugs to the u-s. he was first arrested in 1993 -- and has escaped from prison twice. the well-known "affluenza" teen )s mom, tonya couch, is expected back in court today in texas. a judge will consider reducing her bond amount, which has been set at one million dollars. if she makes bond, couch will face a series of restrictions, including wearing an ankle monitor. authorities accuse couch of helping her son ethan leave the country to avoid a probation hearing that may have led to jail time. he was on probation for killing four people in a drunken driving case some pictures are worth more than a thousand words. look at this-- this photo shows a young couple reconnecting after they were involved in a car crash in tennessee. erika stoval and her boyfriend hunter hanks were on their way home new years day when the accident happened.

concussions. officials say they are doing much better and plan on returning to school this week. it )s a bittersweet day for shoppers as macy )s stores begin their final clearance sales. the sales will run between eight to 12 weeks. macy s will close 36 stores across the u-s including three stores right here in hampton roads. they are at peninsula town center in hampton-- the chesapeake square mall and military circle in norfolk. the company says the move is designed to reduce expenses while still allowing macy s to pursue opportunities for growth. and the powerball jackpot just went up to one- point-four billion dollars. no one matched all six powerball numbers after saturdays drawing even though lottery officials say about 75-percent of all possible number combinations were used. the odds of winning the 1-point-3 billion dollar prize is 292-

a good samaritan riding the subway took the shirt right off his back for a man in need. take a look at this heatwarming video-- a man in need was shivering-- so this subway rider literally gave him the shirt off his back to keep the man warm. the good samaritan also brought over a knit cap to put on him. he even went as far to ask if he needed
