welcome to newschannel three at 5 - i m les smith. and i m barbara ciara. a norfolk police dog - a member of the force - killed in the line of duty. 4-year-old kriiger was shot by an armed suspect who barricaded himself in a house overnight. newschannel 3s nadeen yanes is live on land street - where the stand off ended. thats right guys - police say it started as fight between a husband and wife at this house - and ended in an officer involved shooting - a shooting that left one of their own - dead. today newschannel three - norfolk s chief of police spoke exclusively about this loss. 40:46 this is as about as bad as it gets for a k9 officer to watch their partner go down in the line of duty like this its 4-year-old

now the norfolk police department is mourning this k9 officers death. chief michael goldsmith - spoke only to newschannel 3 about the loss. 41:01 it was tight situation out there any way and to see the dog go down its a tough thing to deal with that tight situation being a tense 7 hour long stand off between police and 58 year old keith richardson. police say it started after - a fight with his wife. she called 911 saying richardson held her at gunpoint and was trying to kill her. police say when they got there - he barricaded himself in the house. eventually richardson came out of the house with a gun - according to police - and thats when they released krijger on him to take him down. police say richardson shot and killed the dog. thats when police say they shot back - hitting but not killing richardson. gene strickland says everything ended in his driveway. 00:57 we saw all of it that was in my driveway hes richardsons neighbor and friend and says polices version of the

some of us hit the 70a mark yesterday, so of course we may see a few snowflakes tomorrow night! a strong canadian cold front will approach the region on tuesday. ahead of that front expect a gusty southwest wind that will push temperatures well into the 50s. this cold front won t have much moisture to work with. however, as it passes tuesday evening we may see a few raindrops or even a few snowflakes fall. behind the front on wednesday it will be sharply colder, with high temperatures only in the mid- to-upper 30s, despite plenty of sunshine. but after that, we will enjoy a warming trend through the rest of the work week and into the weekend. we will climb into the upper 40s on thursday, the 50s on friday and to near 60a on saturday.

officials say the call came in just after 8-30 this morning. police responded to a home on deep creek boulevard and found a baby boy unresponsive. the child s body was taken to medical examiner to determine cause of death. right now we have a crew gathering more details. look for any updates right here on newschannel three. now to a story that s making international headlines. tonight a chesapeake woman is grieving the loss of her sister -- who was found dead in her italian apartment. newschannel 3 s margaret kavanagh is live tonight in the control room. margaret you spoke with the victim )s loved ones. needless to say they re heartbroken. ashley olsen s sister lives in chesapeake. the american artist was found dead over the weekend and italian police are working to find her killer. ashley would take trips to hampton roads to visit her sister, according to family friends. 35 year old ashley olsen was found dead in her apartment in

strangulation, according to italian media reports. 21:09 )oh that is a shock. an absolute shock. jerry curley only met his next door neighbor s sister a handful of times but was stunned to her she was found dead. ashley )s sister lives in chesapeake. the 35 year old would take trips to hampton roads to visit her sister, according to family friends. 21:30 )she was happy, smiley. happy go lucky ashleys friends in florida can t believe what has happened to her. transportation the new safety technology could soon be in all new cars sold in the u-s. kris van cleave joins us from the north american international auto show in detroit. nats: beep beepequipping the country s cars and trucks with so called v-2-v communication will essentially allow vehicles to see each other and warn of a potential danger well before a driver sees it... transportation secretary anthony foxx: 13:15:44 sot our goal is to see this technology put in place as soon as possible. gfx2-in the newly proposed rule will call for standard v-2-v technology to phased in over a period of years, but still must clear administrative hurdles and a public comment period. gfx3-in v-2-v uses technology similar to wifi allowing cars in close proximity to share information like speed and direction several times a second-allowing the car to warn a driver before changing lanes or about a harzard ahead...already some cars come with blind spot detection and automatic breaking to prevent some collisions. gfx3-out vo- dot material v-2-v enabled
