a large group of the dooley family )s loved ones gathered behind me around 5:00 with flowers and balloons -- then they began to walk back to the deep creek neighborhood to the dooley s home -- and then the grandmothers home where five of the six family members were found shot to death early thursday morning. we are told that this was mostly organized by brooke dooley s friends -- but it appeared that people of all ages were out here tonight -- including the dooley )s relatives. we heard from todd dooley )s brother michael tonight for the first time. now as their loved ones are coming together to remember them -- chesapeake police are

while their loved ones are coming together in their honor -- chesapeake police are still trying to figure out why their lives were taken -- and when. what police do know about the dooley family )s deaths -- the last time anyone had contact with doris -- todd -- lori -- landon -- or brooke -- was monday evening. then about 48 hours later -- police say friends were growing concerned. that )s what led to the welfare check at the dooley s home on wildwood road -- according to police -- and the gruesome details began to unfold. police say it was there -- inside the home -- where police found landon dooley dead. he was shot in the head. a police spokeswoman says officers on the scene knew the dooley family well -- so they went to doris dooley )s home on george washington highway to check on the rest of the family. at that home -- police made contact with the oldest dooley son -- cameron -- the only family member that police say they ever made contact with. police say he was

-- so they sent in a swat team -- equipped with a negotiator -- in the hopes of convincing him to come outside. this went on for hours -- without any progress. at one point -- police say a negotiator talking to cameron heard a gun shot -- and then -- just silence. police could not say what time they heard the gunshot -- but around 2-30 a-m -- the swat team decided to go in -- and made the horrifying discovery. todd, lori, and brooke -- all shot to death in the head -- according to the medical examiner. doris was dead as inside the home as well -- but her cause of death has not been released. cameron was also dead -- the medical examiner said he shot himself in the chest. police say they are investigating the possibility that the family was killed on monday night. info about services live in chesapeake, kelly rule, newschannel 3.

a man is in custody after he barricaded himself in a hampton home for nearly two hours. police say they were first called for a domestic complaint around two this afternoon on leta court -- when they got there they spoke with a woman and a juvenile who had been in the home. that s when they saw a man with a gun go back inside the house. hampton s swat team was called -- but police say the incident ended peacefully. in norfolk -- police have arrested a man who they say was involved in a shooting that left a woman seriously injured. it all happened this morning around nine on westcliff drive. police say they found the woman outside a house, on the ground -- she had been shot several times. medics rushed her to the hospital. police then arrested a man inside the house. investigators are still trying to figure out what exactly led up to the shooting and if there is a relationship between the man and woman. a family in chesapeake is without a home tonight after a fire this morning. firefighters were called to a house on spar street in

they say when they first arrived heavy smoke and fire was coming through the roof. no one was hurt, but the fire did spread to a neighbor )s shed. no word on how it all started. new details tonight -- we now know the name of the man who was shot and killed trying to rob a hampton business last night. it all happened at the gift card atm business in hampton around six last night -- that )s near the langley square shopping center. police say they pronounced 18- year-old timothy johnson dead at the scene. a few blocks away -- they also found a second person who was shot. police say johnson and the other suspect were trying to rob the business when a store employee -- who was legally armed -- shot them. the employee is not facing any charges. we also know the name of a man pulled from the lafayette river in norfolk yesterday -- police say 25- year-old david isaac was pronounced dead just after 4 p-m yesterday after a concerned citizen reported seeing a body in the water near 26th street and villa circle.

foul play. in newport news -- several cars were involved in a crash on denbigh and trailblazer boulevard -- this happened just before noon. police sent newschannel three this picture of the crash. dispatchers say some people were transported to the hospital with injuries -- no word on how many people or cars were in involved. portsmouth police were on the scene of a crash this morning as well -- it happened on des moines avenue -- near randolph street just before 11. emergency dispatchers say two vehicles were involved and there were injuries. no word yet on the victim )s conditions. newschannel three is helping you beat the backups -- the midtown tunnel - which runs from norfolk to portsmouth - is closed all weekend long. crews closed the tunnel last night. it )s part of a project to remove the elizabeth river trail pedestrian bridge -- which is part of a larger project to build a new midtown tunnel. crews will put a new pedestrian bridge in place before the tunnel project is complete. the midtown tunnel is scheduled to

switching gears to weather now -- it was a beautiful sunny day january -- but how long will this stick around? meteorologist dominic brown is in the live vipir forecast center. feeling more like spring than winter....as we move through the rest of your weekend, enjoy it! it will feel more like spring than winter all courtesy of an area of high pressure building in from the south. with southerly winds in place and a good deal of sunshine on sunday, we )re expecting high temperatures in the upper 60s. a few more clouds will build in late in the day, but overall, no rain is in the forecast. the warm up will continue into the start of the work week. in fact, by monday, many areas will be in the lower 70s. a weak cold front slides in monday night into tuesday, giving way to highs in the upper 50s tuesday.

the two remaining fugitives from a california jail break are back in custody. they were found in the san francisco area nearly 400 hundred miles from the orange county jail where they were being held. brian webb reports pkg sheriffs officials say escapees jonathan tieu two and hossein nayeri

are back behind bars after a daring prison break. they were on the run for nearly nine days . sot sheriff hutchins / orange county sheriff the entire state can breathe a sigh of relief because we have the other two individuals back in custody where they should be. the men were found in a stolen van parked at a san francisco food market after being noticed by a neighbor. nayeri fled on foot but was quickly caught. tieu was found hiding in the van along with ammunition. no weapon was found. sot sheriff hutchins / orange county sheriff the focus shifts to continuing to look at where the system failed us, where policies and procedures were not followed )officials believe tieu, nayeri and a third inmate, bac duong dong cut through a steel grate and crawled through pluming tunnels to get out of the jail. duong split from the other two and turned himself into authorities friday morning. prison english teacher 44 year ravaghi new-shaf-erin rah- vagh-hee was arrested in connection with the escape. county sheriffs office we

relationship that developed but how far it went and whether it was physical or not were still trying to confirm that. the men are being interviewed and will soon be taken back to orange county and placed in a high risk area of the same jail where they escaped. brian webb for cbs news. right now in colorado -- police are on the scene of multiple shootings and a stabbing at a motorcycle show in denver. one person was killed and multiple victims were injured at the colorado motorcycle expo today. police say shots were fired and then a stabbing occurred at the denver coliseum. investigators did not say yet exactly how many people were injured or how that person died. but denver health tweeted that nine victims were hospitalized. one hospital was put on lockdown as a precaution. no one has been arrested yet. facebook and instagram are telling private gun sellers to take their business elsewhere. the social networks are updating their policies to ban private gun sales on both

welcome back to news channel 3 im makenzie walter. lets start this saturday with a little high school hoops the landstown eagles were up in richmond for the vantage hoops showcase at lc bird today taking on the meadowbrook monarchs. bryson stukes - remember this guy from the football field - hes pretty good on the hardwood too. he leads the eagles to a 77-58 win over the monarchs

ranked uva cavaliers avoided yet another acc road loss in dramatic fashion with a 72-71 win at wake forest. today...another road challenge...facin g 16th ranked louisville...who has won four straight - 13 straight at home. the cavs led 29-14 heading into the half - and they just kept it going from there - going up by more than 20 at one point. anthony gill and malcolm brogdon would lead the cavs with 13 each as they win their fourth in a row 63-47 over louisville. and tonight - the infamous battle of the bay - norfolk state and hampton battling it out in the hampton convocation center that one underway right now. the women played first in the double header - with the pirates winning 73-62. now its the mens turn and theyre fighting for more than bragging rights tonight - theyre also duking it out for first place in the meac. old dominions trey freeman is having a pretty great week... he scored 28 points against florida atlantic thursday night --- putting him over a huge milestone

at odu and then on monday -- freeman was named the conference u-s-a player of the week. so in all -- i )d say he s having a pretty good week. the monarchs are in miami tonight taking on florida international. former hampton high crabber tyrod taylor will be playing in the pro bowl tomorrow night. the quarterback was named as an alternate in december - and when the carolina panthers made the super bowl -- some one had to replace cam newton -- so tyrod got the call. in his first season as an nfl starter tyrod went eight and six -- and set a new record for rushing yards by a bills quarterback. taylor is the first bills quarterback to be named to the pro bowl since 2002. you can see him take the field tomorrow night! dominic - how
