milwaukee county sheriff david clarke implemented a curfew, following two back to back nights of destruction in the sherman park neighborhood. tensions still remain high in that area of the city, but this morning, a drastic improvement to what we saw over the weekend. here's a better look at the area of milwaukee we're talking about.the sherman park neighborhood is located near the northwest side of the city. the blocks of burleigh, chambers and sherman saw the most criminal activity on saturday and sunday. as we said earlier, sherman park is opening again this morning following its closer by sheriff clarke.that's where we find our pete zervakis... you can see this orange fencing around sherman park. at 6 o'clock this morning - it will come down. deputies put it up last night to close the park.

evening. just 6 people arrested compared to more than 30 over the weekend... and no reports of fires or looting. we've spent the last three days here in sherman park. and as the park re-opens... neighbors in this area say they will work to come together... to heal... and to show the state - and the country - that the unrest is not representative of their community. i don't know what to say about these kids but they need to get themselves together and stop this - this doesn't solve any problems it ly decided to make this our home - we're staying, we're going to be here, we'll get through this those were two long-time homeowners ... who say sherman park is a tight-knit and safe neighborhood. they told us most people who live here take pride in keeping up their homes. live in sherman

happening right now...a much different feeling in sherman park this morning -- and you can take a look at the milwaukee police departments twitter account for confirmation.let's look at this one up here first... take a look at all this food -- this is being dropped off at m-p-d from community members -- police tweeting out a big thank you. also overnight -- chief flynn and mayor barrett reporting just six arrests -- and no major property damage. a nice way to start this morning -- just yesterday milwaukee policee out pictures of damaged squads and talking about an officer who was injured.susan? the death of sylville smith by police was the breaking point that started the unrest in sherman park.smith was the third person killed by an mpd officer this year. austin howard died last month. he was the suspect in a stabbing. police say howard was shot after he returned to the scene and charged at them with a knife. in may, burt johnson died in a shoot out with police responding to a report of a robbery.the african-

killed smith is not being identified because of safety concerns.he was wearing a body camera.no word on when the footage will be released. it's been a challenging couple of days for milwaukee police. chief ed flynn says 31 people have been arrested for disorderly conduct.eight officers were injured... mainly from bricks and rocks thrown by protesters.ten squad cars were damaged and the police armored vehicle was hit by gunfire. to try and come to grips with the events from over the weekend.hundreds gathered outside that burned down b-p gas station, including some from surrounding communities.i see this as one metropolitan area, and if we're suffering down here, we're all suffering and it doesn't need to be that way. others are working to cleanup the aftermath from two violent nights.that included two neighbors who worked to take rocks out of their lawns in

beyond wisconsin...the funeral for a woman accidentall shot and killed during a police demonstation will be held later today.73-year-old mary knowlton was participating in a seminar where civilians learn more about how police officers do their jobs when an officer shot and killed her during a shoot-don't-shoot demonstration.authorities say the gun was not supposed to be loaded. police in new york city are

suspect in the double murder of two imams.35-year-old oscar morel is facing two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.police say they found a revolver and clothes similar to that being worn by the gunman in the surveillance video that shows the shooting in morel's home. former n-f-l player aaron hernandez is expected in court today.the judge hopes to set a trial date for the case accusing hernandez of the 20-12 in south end.hernandez has pleaded not guilty.hernandez is already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder of odin lloyd in 20-13. happening right now...more problems for volkswagon -- the u-s justice department finds evidence of criminal misconduct -- that's what the wall street journal reporting this morning. this all stems from the diesel- emissions fiasco that's been plaguing the german automaker. there are no specific charges yet -- prosecutors are still working on that.volkswagon is

this morning. we've spent the last several days in this area speaking to homeowners... who just happened to be caught in the middle of the unrest because of where they live.as the community now works to heal... those people say they want to make sure the state of wisconsin - and the country as a whole - doesn't get a bad perception of sherman park as a safe, diverse, and tight-knit community.... filled with charming homes and local businesses. they've emphatically told us over the la few days that the unrest centered around the area of sherman and burleigh is not representative of this community. live in sherman park...pz... tmj4. a-t-f agents are looking at

the total number of homicides this year in milwaukee is 82... that's not as many as this time last year, but far ahead of every other yearn a decade. happening right now...a national conversation about milwaukee.it's something many of us have long known -- but now national media outlets are reporting on the segregation issues in milwaukee.it is the most segregated city in america. u-s census data. this of course all coming to light because of the violence in the sherman park neighborhood -- over the weekend 6 businesses were burned, more than 30 people were arrested and 8 police officers were injured. milwaukee more segregated than deeply divided places like chicago, cleveland and detroit. alerman khalif rainey said the clashes there are not right -- but adding no one can deny there are racial problems in milwaukee. rainey says that's a byproduct of inequities, injustice,

in an earthquake in peru.the magnitude five-point-three quake shook the mountains of southern peru late sunday, collapsing adobe houses, destroying irrigation canals and blocking highways.some of the dozens of injured had to be airlifted out.the u-s citizen who died has yet to be identified. an airstrike hit a hospital supported by doctors without borders in northern yemen.the international aid group said at least eleven people were killed and 19 wounded. the hospital was partially destroyed. it's near a rebel stronghold in northern yemen.a saudi-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes against the rebels since march of last year. happening right now...the dust is settling on the las vegas strip after the riveria hotel is imploded just this morning. a quick blast -- and there's nothing left.this is a tweet
