you can see the presidential debate, live, right here on today's tmj-4, starting at eight o'clock. there's word this afternoon that trump's running mate, mike pence, has ?canceled? his visit to waukesha tomorrow. no reason was given. trump is still scheduled to hold a rally at the waukesha county expo center on wednesday. "more local news":the milwaukee common council now has mayor barrett's 20-17 budget proposal. it calls for services like maintaning milwaukee's police force... and removing lead throughout the city. pete zervakis now... on what's next: mayor tom barrett's 2017 budget proposal calls for a tax increase of about 26 dollars on a hundred-thousand- dollar home. city fees would go up about 10 dollars. we have an obligation to provide essential city services the mayor's proposal also calls for more spending on milwaukee's police department... but not enough
money. i know there are people - including me - who would love to see more officers deployed the right way of course but we have to have the funds to do thatalderman cavalier johnson - a member of the public safety committee - backs the plan. with some of the issues our community faces - you can't police your way out of it - it's got to be more than just police he says one way to improve public safety: is removing lead paint - and water lines - around the city. it's taking on lead laterals studies has a direct effect on behaviors and sometimes violent behaviors later in life as well the 2017 budget proposal puts 11 million towards removing lead pipes that are broken... or serving 385 daycare facilities around the city. mayor barrett also called on the council to change city ordinances... and mandate homeowners swap out the lead service lines that are private property - as they city replaces the public lines
absentee landlords to do it unless there's a mandate up next are hearings before the finance and personnel committee... then an amendment process... before the full council votes on the budget. at city hall...pz... tmj4 the mayor can veto amendments to the budget before he signs it. also announced this morning: train manufacturer talgo is returning to milwaukee's century city. talgo pulled out of century city shortly after governor walker fulfilled his campaign om promise to drop the proposed high speed rail line between milwaukee and madison. talgo will be refurbishing train cars as part of a contract with los angeles metro storm team 4 now... and a blustery, fall day out there... let's see how things are shaping up for tonight.meteorologist jesse ritka joins us with the
