right now, more than 77 million people are preparing for a massive winter storm set to hit the east coast today. in north carolina, power companies started cutting tree limbs near power lines. crews have been treating roads with salt across virginia and maryland. and states of emergency have already been declared in washington d-c and

federal offices in d-c, as well as the nation's second largest subway system will shutdown this afternoon. along with snow, the storm system is expected to bring dangerous winds and ice. ian, this winter storm is already becoming a travel nightmare... airlines have cancelled thousands of flights.... and now many are being forced to wait things out. 10 news reporter emerald morrow is live at tampa international airport... emerald, we obviously don't have any snow... but this is still going to have a big impact here. absolutely... there are already more than 50 flights that have been cancelled in and out of tampa international. so if you have plans to leave town for the weekend, it is a must that you check your flight's status before heading to the airport. - you'll want to do that whether or not you're going out to the east coast - especially if you have a connecting flight - because that connecting flight

you'll want to check your flight's status. you can find it on our website, w-t-s-p dot com. click on the traffic tab, then click airport delays on the left side. there you will find the status for each flight from t-i-a and st. pete clearwater international airport. one woman is in the hospital after a man's gun went off at a washington movie theater. about a dozen people were in the theater when witnesses say the man stumbled around, shooting one person. police say the man admitted later his gun accidentally went off. people who saw they were stunned because the man walked out like nothing happened and left the woman behind. investigating. was not evacuated. nelson will be in tampa today to see identify the remains found at the dozier school for boys. this comes one day after brought the final

smaller pieces into their mouths and noses. two senators-- including florida's own bill nelson-- are leading a big push for a federal study on the rubber pieces used on fields and playgrounds, after the soccer coach from the university of washington found 153 reported cancer cases involving athletes who spent significant periods of time playing on crumb rubber turf. the senators say millions of kids and young athletes play on crumb rubber synthetic surfaces every day, i just checked and i also found the law offices of morgan & morgan are representing several clients here in florida who were diagnosed with cancer and blame artificial turf. originally these tire pieces were thought to be safer because when kids fell onto

led to fewer injuries mulch. the biggest concern? soccer goalies since they are constantly lunging onto the rubber pieces, which cuts or fly into their mouths. we'll be sure to keep an eye on this and will follow up to see if the president launches a federal investigation. 10news wtsp a lakeland family fire breaks out in their kitchen. fire crews were called to the home on deleon way just after 8 p-m. two teenagers and five dogs were inside at the time. the teens were able to safely get out on their own, but firefighters had to rescue the pets. firefighters say it started from something left on the stove. they say this should be a reminder since the home did not have working smoke detectors. a snowboarders wild ride started out as a good time, then takes a dangerous turn. why a ski resort wants to press charges and say the video has the proof. and an icy rescue in tennessee. how a teenager made it out of her sinking car.
