hot spots are i-4 at u.s. 301 and i-75 in hillsborough county. coming up in ten minutes we'll look at drive times and see if the bridges are slow into tampa yet. good wednesday morning. welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. >> i'm ian reitz. thank you for joining us. today the city of tampa will be giving out dozens of weather radios to managers in mobile home parks across the area. 10 news reporter emerald morrow is live at the mobile home community in dale mabry. why are officials focusing on this right now? >> reporter: one of the main reasons why officials want to give away the weather radios is because of the bad tornadoes we have been seeing across the state. here's a look at the damage we saw in south florida this week. don't forget about the damaging

all of this severe weather is why tampa fire and emergency management officials want to make sure each and every mobile home park has at least one weather radio to keep neighbors safe and on alert. >> it adds an additional layer we want to provide to the communities because of the fact they are in manufactured home. those houses, we know, just don't stand up to real severe weather conditions like the stucco-bound homes. >> reporter: fire officials got 70 weather radios so neighbors can know with as much warning as possible when they might be in danger. officials say weather radios are some of the best protection you can get. but is it better than our current alert system we have across the city? i'm working on getting an answer for you.

up at 6:30. live in tampa emerald morrow 10 news wtsp. heavy rains and storms that pound florida roads are costing you more money. potholes are costing drivers across the country $3 billion a year. that's because of cars damaged from running over holes in the road. aaa suggests you maintain proper tire pressure to help avoid serious damage to your car. days before the south carolina primary donald trump is not letting a direct attack from president obama bother him. this comes as democratic contenders jump for minority votes. trump took aim at the president in south carolina moments after the commander in chief said this. >> i continue to believe mr. trump will not be president. the reason is because i a lot of faith in the american people. >> you are lucky i didn't run last time romney ran because you would have been a one-term president.

across the state are on their way to tallahassee. they are protesting a handful of anti-immigration bills taking center stage in the capitol. 10 news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live where the group just left. >> reporter: they just left from this restaurant to head to tallahassee. they headed this way to turn from here and head to our state capitol. this has been a huge issue not only in florida but also on the campaign trail. that is what worries people i just talked to on the way to the florida state capitol. they just headed off on a bus to talk to leaders in florida. this is the group leaving on the bus less than an hour ago in tampa. several parents brought their children to protest a bill in

them and send their children into foster care. on the presidential race the canidates seem to change their finds a lot on immigration. the group i talked to this morning says it is so important to get their stories and faces out there to make sure any legislation is heavily considered before it is put into low. here's what i'm working on 6:30 today. pope francis is in mexico and he is talking about immigration. i'll explain his message and how it applies to us in florida coming up in 30 minutes. sarah hollenbeck 10 news wtsp. the hope will hold a mass along the u.s. mexico border. here are the border. this is the area where the mass will be taking place. half a football field's length from the united states. he'll be in jaurez across the border with el paso.

in el paso 30,000 people will fill the university of texas el paso football stadium. this is a community where thousands travel back and forth everybody day between the two countries. pope francis plans to make a stop at the fence along the border giving a blessing for migrants on the other side and giving a blessing to those who tried to get there. this is his last stop on his five-day tour in mexico. a new night against the zica virus. the world health organization has a plan to fight the virus but it will cost $60 million.

studies into birth defects from the virus. another round of hulk hogan versus gauker. he is suing a website for posting an alleged sex tape. a university of tennessee football player is facing charges in pinellas county. deputies say this man here, matt crowder was talking to someone online who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. throughout conversations the 23- year-old sent sexual photographs and asked the girl to engage in sexual acts with him. when he tried to meet with her in pinellas county deputies showed up and arrested him. as flint, michigan deals with the water crisis, a study shows people living in flint paid the highest water rates in the united states. people in flint paid $864 a year for water service. that's nearly double the national average.

fighting a judge's order break into an i-phone belonging to one of the san bernardino shooters as part of the fbi investigation. because prosecutors don't know the number combination to get in the phone apple will need to disable the security feature. normally if someone tries a certain amount of times the phone will lose all its data. the fbi says violent extremist groups like isis are trolling social media to groom and radicalize teenagers. the fbi now has released a new educational program that

this is a live look at sky 10 west of gandy bridge. drive time five minutes to cross. a live look at the howard frankland bridge. this is i-275 coming across the bridge at the kennedy boulevard exit. traffic is picking up a little bit. still quiet though. it is taking six minutes to cross. the sunshine skyway bridge is really quiet, as well. bobby? >> 6:14. the fog is spreading out in eastern hillsborough county. a mile and a point visibility in brooksville. that is improving. venice is down to zero miles of visibility. watch that. that will be tough on the i-75 corridor south of sarasota. it is improving in pinellas county at this particular point. the next three days, especially tomorrow, i think we'll do this again. today is a beautiful day up near 70. 72 tomorrow after a very chilly start.

for reporters. these drivers started running out of gas. eventually plows were able to get to the roads and make a clearing for the people. crews in california are working to repair an interstate after a rock slide damaged the road. one truck driver narrowly escaped a wall as he was driving through it. 6:17 is the time. we have fog out there. how is that impacting the roads? >> just a little bit. some slowdowns on the majors. i have a couple of accidents to tell you about. the first is in new port richey on starkey boulevard. that is pulled over to the shoulder.

in bradenton i'm on top of a crash. this is at 53rd avenue west of caruso road. live to i-75 and veterans expressway looking really good. same thing in polk county. we are seeing fog. it is not really affecting majors just yet. polk parkway and i-4 still running smoothly. bobby? >> we have fog out there. hillsborough. let's start there. downtown tampa is okay. you get out towards the i-75 corridor and i-4 that's where we are seeing a quarter of a mile visibility. that extends from there through

quarter of a mile in lakeland. which has come up. davis island seeing a little fog in eastern pasco county. zephyrhills a mile and a half of visibility. getting better in parts of northern pinellas county. expect fog there. feather sound area is doing much better. it was really thick on the western edge off the howard frankland bridge. sarasota about a mile. bradenton is improving. it is getting thicker south of sarasota with venice zero miles visibility. an 8th of a mile in some places. brooksville is looking decent as far as brooksville goes in the morning. there is a lot of fog but not half a mile visibility. rain? no. none of that. we'll stay dry not only today but it look like through the weekend. the next rain chance isn't until tuesday at this point. high clouds and they are really thin. they are scooting at of here. that means sun is up after 7:00

8:30ish it should be getting out of here. 53 tampa. 51 sarasota. 54 lakeland. these numbers five to almost ten degrees cooler than where we were yesterday. visibility is looking better at the performing arts hall in sarasota. watch out for patchy fog when you put the kid on the bus this morning as you are driving through the neighborhoods. 52 degrees with a high near 70. cool with a jacket this morning. nice this afternoon. all i wanted to show you on our forecast model is that fog burning off. this is 7:00 to 8:00. you can see generally between 8:30 and 9:30 it gets out of here and we have sunshine for the rest of the day. highs today about 70 degrees. the average high is 73. we are slightly below average. boating looks good. two to three foot seas. tonight we are going down to

we are seeing slower moving traffic in the morning rush hour time. you can see the selmon expressway down to 26 miles per hour. it is taking 17 minutes from i- 75 to gandy bridge going west. east lake road drivers it gets really slow for rush hour. out the door it is looking good. 11 minutes from county line road to tampa road. >> that does get backed up. absolutely. tampa bay county in the west chase area look at the fog settling in. this is over wesley chapel. it is really thick there. morning commute will have the fog. evening commute we are looking at sunshine and falling in the upper 60s. if you are traveling abroad we

protesters across florida are headed to the capitol to protest several anti- immigration bills being talked about in the white house. >> 10 news reporter sarah hollenbeck is there to talk about what is taking center stage. >> reporter: they just left this restaurant and they are heading to tallahassee. they tell us they are fed up with worrying they'll get deported. fed up with worrying that their kids end up in foster care. that's why they are fighting in florida and hoping the pope's message in mexico also sends a strong message. they left in buses this morning from across this state in tampa, orlando and miami from all corners in florida to make their voices heard. this session, nine anti- immigration bills have been proposed in the florida state house. today pope francis will be in jaurez, mexico at the border of the united states. his visit stepping directly into angry american political

he may even weigh in on donald trump's comments to make mexico build a border wall if he is elected president. that immigration debate worries non-u.s. citizens in tampa who made the sunshine state their home for years. >> at the end of the day it is not just about bills. it is about people being deported and kids being taken from their parents. we are standing up and fighting back. >> reporter: this florida the protesters got good news. most anti-immigration bills in state are now dead. they tell me that's why it is so important to head the tallahassee today to continue to make their voices heard. live in tampa sarah hollenbeck. there is a war of words happening between president obama and donald trump. on tuesday president obama said he believes americans will not

that's something the billionaire canidate labeled a great compliment. trump responded by saying if he had run in 2012 he would have won the election. donald trump and hillary clinton are lead big double- digits in the palmetto state. this is getting a lot of attention. look at this image that jeb bush tweeted out on tuesday evening. it is a photo of a personalized gun. then you look at the caption and it says america. it has been retweeted 18,000 times. he is getting a lot of negative feedback. including a response from edward snowden that says quote delete your account. historic day ahead for pope francis. he'll be in mexico. he'll become the first pope to visit the u.s. mexican border. he is going to celebrate mass in jaurez, mexico this afternoon. that's next to the el paso, texas border. >> the man is after mass he'll walk up to the fence to offer a

they can pick up on any severe weather event. they'll blast a tone that will get your attention. hopefully in enough time to get you to safety. this is important for people living in mobile home parks. their homes are at a higher risk of being damaged in storms like tornadoes. even if you don't live in a mobile home park it is important to have a weather radio in your home. you can pick up one of these radios at any electronic store near you. live in tampa emerald morrow 10 news wtsp. a historic ship in state water resources that has never been done. water from lake okeechobee will be releaseed in the everglades to help with the dry season. water will be released a few inches at a time through a reservoir to help clean it so it is not polluted.

used is after tropical storms or hurricanes. we have a warning about a dangerous trend for teenager drivers. this is called fancy drives. teens are not doing them in an empty parking lot or field. they are doing these on busy roads. this snapchat video shows a teenager spinning. >> these are 17-year-old kids using borrowed cars from friends and family members who had no idea they were doing what they were doing with it. >> police sent a video and request to the state attorney's office to charge the teenager driver with wreckless driving. >> that would be so scary. 14 families from texas are without a home after a fire destroyed an apartment complex. it took crews several hours to get this massive fire under

thankfully no one was killed. a few people were hurt. neighbors who escaped the quick- moving flames were not sure if everyone would make it out alive. >> you start running around to neighbors knocking on windows and doors to get them out. >> you could feel the fire. it was so close to me. >> it hurts. i don't have anything. but i have my life. >> fire investigators are trying to figure out what started this fire. the red cross is helping people who lost everything. a newborn boy is recovering this morning after his mother gave birth to him in the bathroom of a restaurant and left him in a toilet. this surveillance video in the subway system shows the woman walking in the bathroom and walking out later. the woman was taken into custody and hospitalized.

if you or anyone you know uses the prescription drug adderall. misuse of the stimulant is up with adults. the problem is 18 to 25 years old who take adderall without a prescription. a u.s. task force says there is not enough evidence to recommend screening for autism spectrum disorders in young children. the u.s. preventative task force looked at children two years old who do not have any concerns raised by family members, caregivers or doctors. the panel found no evidence that screening would be good for the children. clearwater beach is picked as one of the best beaches in the united states. out of 25, clearwater came in at number 20. trip advisor picked the beaches

sunshine skyway looking good. down to 51 miles per hour on the manatee county side. drive time is 17 minutes. concern is into tampa on the bridges. howard frankland bridge, gandy bridge and courtney campbell causeway getting slow. these are the northbound lanes into tampa before kennedy boulevard. traffic picking up closer to the kennedy exit. it is not horrible yet. as the good time to get out the door if you can. you won't run into too many delays. bobby? >> we have been watching for fog on the bridge. it is improving on the west side in pinellas county where we had fog earlier this morning. fog in sarasota and you get east of downtown tampa you'll run into that. be careful this morning. pollen levels is on the high range. juniper, maple and oak are the main ones. we didn't have the rain this morning we had yesterday to knock the levels down. rainfall, we'll stay dry through the weekend.

sides of the fence as the pope has mass in the crime-plagued city of jaurez. a montana family gave near neighbors quite a scare over the weekend while watching their favorite tv show. a 9-1-1 call came in from a neighborhood who heard screaming in a house about someone having a gun. officers surrounded the house and looked in through the window. they saw two adult and several kids watching shows about fire arms. everyone was watching amc's the walking dead. if you know the show it is about life during the zombie apocalypse. >> if you never watched the show something like this would make you not want to watch it. >> the neighbors wondered what was going on. someone may have been in trouble. turns out it was all a tv show. >> thank goodness for good neighbors. they were looking out for them. this is bizarre. a wendy's manager in virginia

customer bit her in the leg. she says this woman claimed she was given the wrong order. she was so mad about it she stormed into the restaurant, jumped over-the-counter and attacked the employee. she said she had to defend herself. >> she clamped down above my kneecap. i continued to push her. she was biting me. >> nelson says the woman is the angriest customer she has ever served. she was able to fight her off. police charged with woman with malicious wounding and intentionally damaging property. let's head over to road warrior hilary zalla. >> fog is causing problems along tampa and i-75. i want to take you to the veterans expressway. there is an accident reported

south at gunn highway south of gunn highway. we are seeing the normal morning rush hour delays. so far i'm not sure how this is affecting traffic. it was just reported. i'm on top of it for you. i'll have an update once i do know. let's look from sky 10. this is i-4 at branch forbes road. you can see how thick the fog is. i'm seeing this along the i-5 corridor between i-75 and polk parkway in lakeland. we are seeing delays west into tampa. you can see all the head lights. everyone is taking it slower than they normally would because of the fog. make sure you are leaving distance with the car in front of you. so far i'm seeing on our delays we are seeing some of state road 52 approaching i-75. this is our hottest spot now. traffic is down to 11 miles per hour between old pasco road and i-75. this is from the morning commute. we are definitely seeing congestion there going east. also, in sarasota county i want

watch the i-4 stretch. watch i-75, as well. things certainly looking much better in pinellas county. sarasota southward is where it is the thickest. and venice. airport. florida southern college showing visibility is better in lakeland. look at west chase. that has really dropped down in north western hillsborough county and tampa bay downs. this is wesley chapel toyota, they have fog out there. watch that ride in. 53 for an air temperature in tampa. 51 sarasota. river view 49 degrees. it is cool out there. same thing in new port richey. 42 crystal river. high clouds are moving out of here. the sun is coming up after 7:00. that will get down on top of the fog that you can see there. that will burn it off quickly. on storm tracker 10 future cast i wanted to show you the fog. see how it is thickest along

this takes you through 7:30 into 9:00. watch this. it just burns right off quickly between 8:30 and 9:30. we are sunny the rest of the day today. chilly start this morning. 40s to low 50s. foggy, as well. sunny and 70 this afternoon. sunsets 6:22 tonight. we'll fall quickly through the 60s and then after midnight into the 50s. i think tomorrow morning is cooler than this morning. most areas in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. the cold air across the eastern half of the united states will lift for them friday into saturday. we stay really warm. mid 70s. about where we should be. if not a couple degrees below the next couple days. a couple degrees above by the weekend. no big changes until we get into tuesday and wednesday of next week. that's when the cold air will spill down to the south and east.
