craig boswell has the latest from washington. >> reporter: donald trump finds himself at the center of controversy adventure former ku klux klan winner david duke publicly supported him. >> i know nothing about david duke or white supremacist. >> reporter: monday trump said he had a bad ear piece telling nbc's "the today show" he doing want his support. still trumps opponents are on the attack. >> it makes him unelectable. >> that should be common ground

and everyone that racism has no roll in politics. >> thank you so much south carolina. clinton is looking forward to super tuesday after a resounding victory in south carolina this past weekend. >> tomorrow this campaign goes national! >> reporter: democrats will vote in 11 states on super tuesday. cbs news poll shows clinton with huge leads in the three with the largest number of delegates up for grabs. craig boswell cbs news the white house. on the republican side donald trump is leading in virginia and georgia. it shows senator ted cruz winning in texas. early voteing is underway in the tampa bay area. while early voting gives you more flexibility, 10 news reporter emerald morrow explains if you are not careful your vote might not count. >> reporter: the county center in tampa is one of 15 polling places in hillsborough county

today to cast your ballot for president. jeb bush's name is the first name you'll see before he and carly fiorina dropped out of the race. say you have not been form lowing the election coverage close my and you don't know that your favorite canidate dropped out or you see their name and think they must be back in. it will not vote. same goes if you sent in your ballot for a mail in voting for someone who is no longer in the race. your vote won't matter. you won't get a chance to do it again. that could make things tricky especially in the case of jeb bush. >> with his name at the top people may gravitate to that. i don't think it is unheard of to see him get 5% of the vote. that's could be extremely costly

it could allow trump to have the pathway to victory in florida. >> reporter: what happens if you vote doesn't count? election officials will tell you but not until after the election. if you forget to sign your ballot or if you signature does not match what is on record that is another reason your vote could be tossed. wtsp. >> early voting in pasco county, pinellas county, sarasota county and manatee county is march 5th. we have a consumer alert this afternoon about a massive data breech at the irs. it was much bigger than first realized. hackers were able to get sensitive information. the program allows people to check their tax history online. dan crawford has the report

headquarters in washington. >> somebody was trying to claim a refund using my social security number. >> reporter: in may 2010 the irs reported cyber criminals accessed 114,000 taxpayer accounts. three months later that number threw to 334,000. this month the irs says there are 724,000 victims. to protect us. >> reporter: the irs said hackers used personal information gathered from other online sources like bank accounts to answer personal identity questions on the get transcript form. one possible culprit is irs approved tax preparers. six out of 13 irs companies

>> we are often times our own worse enemy not using proper security and passwords. >> reporter: the irs will offer free identity protection for a year. online viewing and download feature of get transcripts has been suspended since may of 2015. the irs is working to restore that with enhanced security to better protect taxpayers. jan crawford cbs news washington. >> the hackers are part of a russia. just moments ago a crash wrapped up on brian dairy road. there was big concerns that the underpass may not be safe after a car smashed into it and burst into flames. 10 news reporter sarah more. >> reporter: they just opened this two minutes ago.

they allowed traffic through. let me show you what the overpass looks like now. still very charred. you can see chunks of concrete missing from the bottom. i'm told the county has to fix that area, although they won't get to it until later today. this all started this morning when a driver going extremely fast crashed into the support beam on the overpass. the driver was killed in the crash. the overpass wasn't dangerous enough to stop traffic above on u.s. 19 north so they only stopped all the traffic below as they worked to clean up the wreck. i'm working to find out if fdot has to make any changes to the overpass because it is so charred. they say it is cosmetic so likely nothing will be done further so you'll have to deal with the charred overpass you

sarah hollenbeck 10 news wtsp. a soldier accused of killing his wife and a police moments ago. hundreds gathered sunday night to celebrate the life of the fallen officer killed on her first day on patrol. an hour ago the president take a look. navy senior chief petty officer received the award. he was serving to rescue american civilians held hostage in afghanistan in december of 2012. has the navy's first living medal of honor recipient in several decades. bittersweet.

a fellow navy seal died during the mission. american student arrested in north korea apologized today begging the korean people and the government for forgiveness for his crime. >> i understand the severity of my crime. i have no idea what sort of penalty i may face. but i am begging to the korean people and government for my forgiveness. >> north korea arrested the 21- year-old last month. university of virginia undergraduate student tried to steal a political banner for a church member in his hometown in ohio. today comes once every four years. what happens if you are born on february 29th. >> i made it. >> you made it! >> that is daisy bell ward

she was born february 29, 1960. she is hundred years old. according to the calendar 25. sometimes she said she feels 25 years old when she is on the dance floor. the biggest winners of the python gathering lives here in the tampa bay area. the amount of girl scout cookies sold in last night's oscars. we had a pleasant start to the day. >> oh, yeah, not nearly as chilly as it was over the weekend. the nice, warm afternoons are not going anywhere.

dentist at the university of louisville say 61% of cancer patients had. [indiscernible] researchers hope the bacetria may be used to detect the deadly cancer. 136 burmese pythons were captured in florida's python hunt. a team from bradenton caught the longest snake at 15 feet. prize.

of $5,000 for capturing the most snakes. more than a thousand people from 29 states took part in the hunt that ran january 16th to february 14th. in hollywood oscar after night. that's after leonardo dicaprio governor's ball. hollywood. >> reporter: the curse was finally brokennen for leonardo dicaprio who took home the bests car for his role in the revenant. when the curtains fell the stars made their way to the governor's ball to toast the night.

>> congratulate all our oscar winner. buy some girl scout cookies. here you see host chris rock's opening monologue to help his daughter sell girl scout cookies in the show. there were a number of celebrities in the audience that held up cash to pick up cookies. at one point he called out leonardo dicaprio saying you made $30 million last year. buy some cookies. later the comedian revealed the girl scouts raised $65,000 in one night. we had a great weekend helping the american cancer society in sarasota raise money for cancer research. i joined emerald morrow and emceed the big gala.

the party had a circus atmosphere with a number of incredible performances. so many people at this event have been impacted by cancer. we learned within the past few minutes the total from the fundraiser saturday night $250,000 for cancer research. it is such a great event. it is so good to see the money raised going toward an important cause. >> absolutely. >> i got to watch and have a front row seat. i left it to the professionals. heading into the work week kicking off monday morning it was pleasant starting to day. >> this morning not super chilly. we have a nice, warm afternoon to look forward to. temperatures in the 70s. lots of sunshine. hard to complain on february 29th. we'll be kicking off march with similar temperatures out there, as well.

seeing those thicken up in wesley chapel. today blue skies and thin, cirrus clouds. 71 river view. 68 st. pete. 69 safety harbor. we are hitting 70 in tarpon springs. you can see the high, thin clouds coming in. at times there will be thick spots. overall we have blue skies and temperatures in the mid 70s this afternoon. with overnight temperatures falling down into the 50s. as we thicken up the cloud cover a little bit, it works in our favor if you like warmer temperatures in the morning. it doesn't allow the temperatures to cool down as much. highs in your neighborhood will hit 74 in spring hill. 74 tampa. 73 clearwater. 72 st. pete. a couple degrees from where we are along the coast. east of i-75 notice the temperatures start to warm up a bit more. we'll hit 77 lakeland. really nice numbers out all

future cast also keeps the rain chances held back. that's nice for us. all day we'll enjoy a lot of sunshine. in fact, it is not until we get with our next system that starts developing on tuesday that we'll see some shower chances eventually rolling into our area on wednesday. look what happens as this gets into the florida panhandle. since we are so far down from the area of low pressure with this, it is really going to be a broken line of a few stray showers that work through with this next cold front. a passing shower or two wednesday morning and midday. then we are done. we'll see a similar set up into friday with an isolated shower or two. looking ahead to the weekend highs in the upper 70s. bright sunshine. looking gorgeous for both saturday and sunday. of course you can get the forecast any time. download our 10 news app for your i-phone or android by searching wtsp in the app store. coming up, a special birthday party. this is an inspirational story

>> i was watching a 30 for 30 sports thing on herschel walker. i love his playing style and what he is all about. he had a troubled childhood and worked through it and found calmness within the football field and his teammates. he started writing one night and it all came out at once. it was very interesting.

this is a birthday party for a land o'lakes boy that was a major success. you may remember eric piper who is a terminally ill child. he celebrated his 10 birthday with a community event sunday. he was surrounded by friends, family and neighbors. they say they wanted to be there to help. >> to know this is for him and all these people care about him and love him, half these people we don't even know personally. >> so cool to see all the people that showed up. donations were raised to help eric fight a heart condition. he said it was an event he can cross off his wish list thanks to generous people in our community. it was a really fun morning for his friends and family. >> great weather extends into the next several days.
