this is "10news this morning" at 6. good thursday morning. welcome to "10news this morning." i am allison kropff. >> i'm ian reitz. >> snow is falling in the northeast. and there is more damage in italy after strong aftershocks overnight. we are on top of a deadly crash in tampa. >> emerald morrow is live at the scene this morning. emerald, that road is back open mlk near coconut palm drive at 10:00 last night. emerald morrow has been on top of the story for us and getting reaction on social media. what can you tell us this morning? >> reporter: you know, news travels so fast in this digital age we live in. oftentimes, when tragedies happen social media is the first place people turn to know about their loss, and we are already seeing that in this

happened right here on this road. we are making calls to confirm, but a local mom has already reached out to family on facebook to say her son was one of the victims in last night's crash. now, this is what family and friends had to see last night when they got news of this crash. they saw a car that had burst into flames, mangled metal, car parts strewn all over the street. the scene itself is heartbreaking enough, but to know that at least four people we it an even more difficult story to hear, see, and cover. on top of finding out who was involved in the crash, we are also asking investigators what was the cause and did anybody make it out alive. now, this is a huge investigation, so it could be some time before we have answers to all of those questions. once we do, of course we'll be updating you on 10news and on wtsp.com. >> emerald, we are getting reports that there was some

make up ground. trump campaigns today in the battleground state of ohio. hena daniels, cbs news. >> the lightest leaks from wikileaks show top aides expressioning concerns with foreign donations to the clinton foundation and bill clinton. 6:05 is the time. parts of central italy are recovering after powerful aftershocks. this was wednesday. the strongest tremors were felt about 100 miles northeast of rome. that's near the same people in august. you can take a closer look at some of the damage. no reports of deaths or serious injuries, but we do know the power has been knocked out forcing first responders to use flashlights to check on families. temporary shelters have been set up. in colombia six people are missing this morning after a landslide near a mine and a roadway. we have learned that six other people were killed.

victims was a motorcyclist. five others were workers at the mine. this landslide was blamed in part on heavy rain which had soaked the region over the last few days. the verdict is in for rapper kevin gates. a jury found him guilty of battery and he will spend the next 180 days in jail. he kicked a fan last year. the girl admitted to grabbing his shorts twice. gates' attorney argued that gates was just defending himself. new this morning an affidavit from marlins pitcher jo two friends smelled like alcohol when their bodies were found after a boat crash. they crashed into a jetty near miami beach last month. a receipt for a bar was found. they found evidence the boat was speeding when it crashed. 6:06. an investigation is underway in boston after police say an uber driver crashed into a home. take a closer look at some of the damage. police say the driver hit another car before slamming

now, thankfully the driver and passenger, they were all right. they were walking before they were taken to the hospital. no one was at home at the time. crash. two people are facing charges today after deputies say they tried bringing guns into walt disney world theme park. they say they were arrested. a security officer pat the man through a ra screening. langston and turner did not have valid concealed weapon permits. disney cruise lines is adding three ships to cape canaveral. disney fantasy, disney dream, and disney wonder will set sail. they say each ship brings a mix of places to visit. spacex gets a boost. the state gave the program $5 million to install an access

this is gonna make you cold this morning. a mix of rain and snow is falling in buffalo, new york. this is the first blast of the season. parts of the state could see 3 to 7 inches today, and more snow is expected over the

world series match-up between the cubs and indians is tied at one game apiece. cubs starting pitcher jake arrieta and slugger karl schwaber, he underwent knee surgery this year. game three is coming up friday at wrigley field. we got new video out of the florida panhandle to show you. this neighborhood right here a little on edge this morning after one person caught a bear roaming around at night. take a closer look at the that's a pretty big bear caught lurking around these homes in springfield for the past couple of weeks. one resident set up a camera to catch the bear in the act. people there believe the bear is just outlooking for food. the wfc has gone door to door to share safety tips with folks in the neighborhood. also this video this morning, this is trending out of the cook county jail in illinois where a massive brawl broke out after two men got into an argument. now, 20 inmates and two

to the officer after this thing ended. the fight lasted more than an hour before officers broke it up. officials say that there are consequences for everyone involved. >> that's not good. >> no. you probably facetime with friends and family in other parts of the country, keep in touch with them that way. one girl in texas witnessed a crime while facetiming with her boyfriend. >> bailey said her boyfriend went to answer the door. she then saw in the camera he was being robbed. at first she thought it was a joke until she saw a gun drawn. >> there was blood and it was horrible. i was like i might be watching like a very serious crime happen. >> can you imagine? bailey and her dad took videos and photos on their phones to document everything that happened. police called them and let them know that yale was okay.

you want to help that person. she got police involved and they were able to get out there. 14 minutes after 6:00 on this thursday. we have had some serious issues already on the road? >> yeah, we have that serious accident in lutz. we also have another one on the u.s. 301 in tampa. the newest is in manatee county. there is a broken down vehicle, and this is along i-75 southbound at state road 64. this graphic says car, but i am not quite sure if that's it could be a truck. regardless, the vehicle is blocking the exit ramp southbound 75 to state route 64. i think you can still get off, but it's blocking a little portion of that. with rush hour happening you may see a slight delay here. hillsborough county we have several issues. our biggest one is this fatal accident in lutz. so i do have new details on this. this is lutz lake fern road, by the way, at heritage harbor

and the person inside the car did die from this crash. so if you're traveling this way, because lutz lake fern road is closed for the investigation and could be for several hours your detour is van dyke road to the south. you also have the selman expressway connector with i goes from del me bri highway to the suncoast skyway. this is 275 at busch boulevard. southbound lanes getting heavier. we don't delays. the drive time is 15 minutes from the apex to i-4. if you are traveling in pinellas county 275 hasn't picked up just yet. this is a live look at gandy boulevard. polk county things are quiet in lakeland. drive times are looking great on i-4 and state road 60. be sure to send me an email. i am your road warrior and i will help you with any questions.

roadwarrior@wtsp.com. weather-wise we are looking good out there as you get started on this thursday morning. mild temps. comfortable. warmer than we have been over the past several mornings. 64 brooksville. 61 crystal river. you continue to be our cool spot this morning. basically, mid-to-upper 60s elsewhere. tampa 69 degrees. mild for st. pete. 71 degrees. 68 degrees in sarasota. well, if you take our weather for granted all you have to do is look around the nation and you realize we are pretty lucky here across right now freezing in syracuse, new york. the freezing mark at 32 degrees. it's 34 in boston. 41 lincoln and denver right around 48 degrees, and it is across the northeast that we are tracking some wintery precipitation. we just showed you that video from buffalo, new york. snow flurries there. an upper level low is pushing across the great lakes region bringing in that moisture off the great lakes and that's why we do have a wintery mix.

my son matt was murdered in laramie, wyoming, in 1998. he was befriended by two men in a bar who pretended to be gay. they offered him a ride home, and when he was in their car, they robbed him and beat him. they drove matt out to the prairie and tied him to a split-rail fence, then beat him some more and left him for dead. in the aftermath of matt's death, my family saw the best of america in the love and support we were shown. so when i see the hate that donald trump has brought to his campaign for president, terrifies me. i'd like to punch him in the face, i'll tell ya. ahh, i don't know what i said, uhh, i don't remember. he's a mexican. i could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot somebody, and i wouldn't... words have an influence. violence causes pain. hate can rip us apart.

directions. four people were killed last night in a crash that involved three different cars. this is what the scene looked like wednesday night. at this point investigators aren't saying what caused the crash, but witnesses at the scene say at least one car was speeding, possibly racing when the crash happened. we are working to get answers to those questions. we will keep you updated on air and on the 10news app. this is absolutely not what you want to hear about a highway that many of you are going to drive on this morning. i-4 has been named the most dangerous interstate country. the data compiled by the driving safety app ever drive shows i-4 has the most deadly crashes per mile between 2010 and 2015. researchers say too many drives are distracted by their cell phones. today a city pitches their town as the best site for the rays stadium. oldmar may seem like an odd

plus. its location. sarah hollenbeck is live this morning. sarah, what makes this location so special? >> reporter: that's oldsmar that we see and this is tampa bay downs where we are standing. now, the best way for you to see this, this is hillsborough county here. this is pinellas county here. that means that if they built a stadium right there in the middle, they could get funding for both. if that happens, it right across from here, tampa bay downs, in this wooded area that you see right across race track road. but there is one big concern. the drive time. i checked out the drive times for you. it would be about 25 minutes from downtown tampa. about 30 minutes from downtown st. pete. people say that that's a pretty far drive to go to a rays game. the chief of staff for st. pete mayor rick christ man joked

georgia. so it's the perfect spot to alienate tampa and st. pete. the mayor of oldsmar argues that his little town could be the perfect fit, and he insists the rays would be absolutely foolish to overlook his town of just 14,000 people. >> every site is going to have issues, but we have the possibility to have joint funding between the two counties, which is a huge win for baseball. when you draw a circle around the tampa bay area, the center of the circle is in oldsmar. >> reporter: now, traffic is the mayor beavis says that since fans come from all different directions, those cars would be disbursed. plus, veterans expressway, he argues, are big enough to handle the extra cars. here is the thing. the rays have a lot of sites. we told you about so many of them. i got off the phone with them yesterday. they insisted they have not narrowed down their list. that means that oldsmar could still be in the running. >> it cost a lot of money for the cities to get the plans and

to her. >> yeah. and just this act by her neighbors to show support and help her is great. we have another story to share with you this morning. this is a picture of a baby that is going viral this morning. we got to show you this picture so it makes sense here. a little too much pda maybe. >> oh, okay. >> here is the picture. mom and dad here. and every single time that mom and dad kiss, the baby has that reaction the mom says, our always happy baby girl has a weakness. she gets sad when daddy and mommy kiss. in the video you see baby ella's dad talk about she is jealous for sure, and they just can't get over this reaction of the little one every single time. you have the lips starting to quiver there. it's cute to see. and then you see the baby quiet down when they give her a kiss on the cheek.

you are about five minutes delayed right now. back to the maps. our newest accident in hillsborough county is in gibsonton blocking one lane on southbound u.s. 41 south of gibsonton drive. not seeing a delay just yet. back to this accident in lutz where a car went into a garage of the home and the person inside the car died. this happened earlier this morning on lutz lake fern road at heritage harbor parkway. let's go live to sky 10. so here is the vehicle completely mangled there. the person, the driver did die. you can see that the tow truck is on scene. crews are still investigating this. it is a big scene. that's why lutz lake fern road remains closed. there are a lot of police officers here. back to the maps. your detour is van dyke road just to the south, by the way. in pinellas county almerton road is close. polk county no issues in the

kate. all right. it is quiet out there this morning. this is the scene from our suntrust financial center camera from our sky 10 network. sunrise a little while away. yeah, temperatures mild this morning, and notice that each morning this work week those temperatures have gradually warmed. right now it's 65 clearwater. 65 new port richey and crystal river checking in this morning at 61 degrees. now, 24-hour temperature change, nothing for plant city bit warmer for brooksville. 2 degrees warmer there and crystal river. we take a look around the nation. temperatures across the northern tier very cold right now. in fact, cold enough that we are tracking some snow across portions of new york. earlier in the newscast we showed you some video of some snow flurries from buffalo, and you can see the shades of pink. well, that is a wintery mix of ice and snow.

florida. feeling like winter across portions of the northeast. back here at home i want to show you the water vapor loop. this is showing what is going on in the mid-and-upper levels of the atmosphere where you see the shades of orange across texas, over the atlantic. that is dry air. but where you see the brighter shades of white, that is a lot of moisture. so low-level winds out of the east-northeast today, but our upper-level winds out of the south and southwest. so from time to time we're go across the region from both the east and the west. so at times we will see filtered sunshine. all right. high temps today above average. average for this time of year is 83. in fact, davis island all the way up to 88 degrees. winds right now between about 7 to 16 miles per hour out of the east-northeast, but it's calm, especially for inland areas like auburndale and temple terrace. futurecast model no rain today.
