this is how you turn around a 96-mile-per-hour fastball. >> tim: el hombre. by elvis andrus. he had 25 during the season. there are some balls that are hit that will just absolutely take your breath away. that one hit by pujols did exactly that. >> joe: took the air out of this place. >> tim: it did. >> joe: what follows it up is error by elvis andrus as the rangers are stunned by what they saw fly out of this park with the weapon, ogando on the mound. >> joe: who could blame them? >> joe: berkman takes a ball low. >> tim: there aren't too many hitters in game that can get around and make solid contact and square up a high fastball like that. above the letters, most guys may make contact. they foul it back. foul it off. but not this. >> joe: a 1-0 to berkman in front of the pitch.
a ball and a strike. the cardinal beat writers, their columnist bernie nicholaus saying before the game, "i can just imagine pujols having a big night, because he came in, didn't want to talk to the press. there was a mini controversy with the big hitters for tony la russa leaving after game two without talking to the press." pujols was frustrated. the guys around the cardinals team on a day-to-day basis thought he might be due for a break-out game. he has three straight hits and three-run home run. that is his 16th home run career passing babe ruth, again with more opportunities with more rounds. number 16 could have counted for two. it's 2-2 for lance berkman.
berkman with a hit, a walk. he flied to center. here goes holliday on a grounder. foul outside first. ken rosenthal is with us. and ken, we spent a lot of time in the regular season, in cardinal games talking about pujols as the pending free agent. the cardinals have gone this deep, now in the world series in 2011. does it help his chances of coming back to st. louis? or does it affect it at all in your mind? gest it probably doesn't make a difference. you -- >> ken: it probably doesn't make a difference. he will give them the first and probably the last opportunity to sign him but this is a business decision. in spring training he turned down nine-year deal in $190 to $200 million range. cardinals have five-day window to negotiate with him exclusively but that is not going to matter.

as you look at edwin jackson, holland, the starters tomorrow night, "mike and mike" gonzalez was obtained by the rangers on august 31 and it was thought he would be pitching against the new york yankees or the boston red sox to win the lcs for texas. they haven't even played them because of the demise of the red sox and the collapse and the yankees were beaten by the tigers. >> joe: they were adding to their left-handed short relief because of the left-handed bats that the team featured. >> tim: guys like adrian gonzalez and jacoby ellsbury. >> joe: robinson cano. >> tim: curtis granderson. >> joe: one ball, one strike for allen craig after his first inning home run has had a 1-4 night. pair of strike-out and a ground-out. >> joe: you saw the e.r.a.s in the

rangers ballpark. there is weather in the area. ball four is inside. it's supposed to rain, they say, in about 45 minutes. >> tim: it's tough to read a crowd, but you get a sense and the feeling from this crowd of enormous respect after seeing pujols and what he did his last time up. the rangers fans have heard about him. the nation has heard about him. the cardinals fans know him. >> joe: here is one to left centerfield. back at the track. he has got another. more respect. >> tim: unbelievable. >> joe: he has hit a three-run shot, now a two-run shot. and the cardinals lead shut-6 in the seventh.
