bit and tucker really doesn't. >> i had noticed that. >> no, i'm kidding. >> she is talking about the stars in the sky and she is right. have you ever noticed that? >> yeah. >> this is a simple -- actually, it can be very complicated but there is a simple explanation. >> we could get into the physics of it. but the light emitted by stars, are hooking at history. the stars emeted this light hundreds, thousands of, millions of years ago. as it reaches your eye here on planet earth, it has to pass through our atmosphere and that process ever having that height pass through our very turbulent foyer, remember, our air is moving a whole lot here close to earth. and that turbulent atmosphere makes the light waver as it
approaches your eye. that is what caused the twinkling. >> what happens is you can kind of do an experiment f you look straight up in the sky at a star, you will see less twingeling because there is less foyer spotlight to come through than if you look at the horizon. if you city a star on the horizon, you are more likely to see it twinkling. >> the condition ever atmosphere will impact it from time to time, how thick the atmosphere is in any given region. is it muted there was a shooting star there that we saw. how much does it have to get through? so the light is refracting. it is bouncing off of the atmosphere. ifeel like we're playing a video game. >> here is the interesting thing. planets, if you look at a planet and sometimes they are very visible, venus, mars, particularly next to the moon or what have you, they don't twinkle. because number one, they are choser than the stars. remember, the stars are light
years away from us. that is why the light is getting to us later than when it was emitted from the stars. stars are light years away. the planets are millions ever miles away. that is much choser relatively speaking. so they don't twinkle. and planets are not emitting light. planets are just reflecting light from the sun where stars are emitting light. >> very fascinating. >> isn't that cool in. >> it is cool. >> there you go. so the clearer it is outside, because the clouds would haven impact, the less they would twinkle. >> more or less. >> it can appear it be relatively clear to your eye but there is still atmosphere up there and the star light is having to get through that. >> one fawn fact. astronauts have reported when he get out of the earth's atmosphere stars don't twinkle. >> really? i don't it was only a theory for a along time until we had people report to us. >> ill thereof see that point
